diane (furtima) As I said, I did not have to answer those questions because I was not setting up a "My SS Account" page. Those questions have nothing to do with collecting SS but they do have to do with the sub-contractor being able to verify that you are who you say you are in order to set up the "My SS Account page" which I did not bother setting up.
SS already has the info that you suggest and Experian has other info on you. Social Sercuity and Experian are working hand-in-hand on the matter of the "My SS Account page" Between the info that SS has on you and the info that Experian is asking for and already has on you, this is what provides that extra layer of security that Beth mentioned early on. See my post with the details at: Wednesday, Jul 3, 2013, 6:27am EDT; 10 hours, 19 minutes ago
It could very well be that what Beth said was the source of the problem between her and Experian is the case. The info that they have on her car loans that she paid off early is now incorrect and since she had two loans for two cars, she doesn't even know which one they would be asking about.
I now understand what Beth was talking about yesterday. She was working on something that has SS interconnected with Experian whereas my application to collect benefits was all SS and nary a word about car loans, education, employers was asked. Beth ran into a glitch in the new system and she isn't the first and won't be the last. Anyone who wants to set up the account that she is setting up is could run into the same problems. Just think someone who lied about education level 25 years ago to get a car loan might end up giving the true answer when trying to set up this "my SS account" page and run into the same problem or lied about employers years ago and now is putting the correct info in. Or told the truth years ago but now forgot an employer and it doesn't match the credit report.
I think people are advised to check their credit reports at least once a year to make sure the info on it is correct.
homechick My husband had and still does have a serious illness and now I do too. He retired early from a job he was not keen about - best thing for him because the state was changing the health benefits and if he would have waited he would have received less in health benefits right in time for when we needed them the most. As for me, I've been self-employed for nearly 30 years. Mostly part-time but about a decade or more full time (not counting ebay). I don't have an employer sponsored retirement fund, only what I socked away on my own and that took a hit. I don't see either of us living into our 80s or more. I just pray that we make it out of our 60s.
