David True about going into the SS office and having them bypass the Experian questions for you. One of the things that I was taught was you are are not to give out your SS number. In fact the info that I posted from the SS site makes it very clear that they do not share SS numbers with Experian. So even if you go into the SS office to set up the "my SS account page" they are not going to give the SS number to Experian. They, of course, may ask you for their own identification purposes for it but it is not something that Experian wants or needs or will ask. Same with the birth certificate info. That is stuff that SS wants in order to match; experian wants other info to match their records. I would be very leery of any company wanting my SS info and birth certificate except for SS.
This whole new thing makes me wonder if SS had a security breach or SS decided they needed help in providing that extra layer of security and the easiest and fastest way was to outsource it to a company which would already have information on you.
