correction: there = their. I do know the difference, unlike in that article re: bring food to children which in that case should be "take food to children." Seems that mix-up of bring and take has become more and more common.
LLB called last evening while waiting at the San Francisco airport for a flight back to Canada. He will be there for a week. His road trip from Vancouver with his Canadian friends sounded wonderful! They went to Crater Lake in Oregon which looks beautiful! "Crater Lake is known to be the deepest lake in the United States and the seventh deepest in the world." He said they also went to some gorge which was filled with huge ferns, I think he called it the Valley of Ferns but I forget if it was in Washington or Oregon. I think the former but could be wrong. Also saw some incredible waterfalls. They took the coastal route of 101 and went to the Redwood Forest. He had to work for a couple of days so his friends toured parts of San Francisco and then he was able to show them around on the 4th of July as well as part of that Friday. He took them to a spot to see the fireworks and they were blown away. It was someplace where you could see fire works all around you as towns and cities were setting them off.
I would love to visit Crater Lake. So many incredible things to see that I never will. Glad I have seen at least a few.
His friends' flight on that Sat was an hour before that plane crashed so they were not stuck in the airport. So many tragedies lately with planes and trains to say nothing of other things. That Canadian train that consisted of oil tankers that crashed into that town was beyond belief. Just horrible and 40 people are still missing and most likely will never be found . . .
Speaking of French fries, my mother had one of those devices where you put the potato in and then pressed down the lever and out came cut fries. She would then soak them in salt water until it was time to put them in the deep frier. Didn't have fried food a lot but when you are making fries for 6 people that device came in handy since even the older kids didn't mind making the fries! LOL Amazon has a number of French fry cutters for sale ranging from $15 to $20 plus a very expensive one.
A couple of years ago DH started making french fries by the two step method. Again, we don't have them often but when we do, they are made with the double step. He hand-cuts his fries.
Last year I tried buffalo steaks for the first time and now even the most expensive steaks don't hold a candle to them. Swifty had sent them to us a couple of times. My oldest brother sent us Omaha Steaks several times for Christmas which were very good. Last year we sent LLB Hearst steaks (grass fed). We were surprised when he called because in addition to the steaks we had ordered, several pounds of hamburger were sent. Guess it is a marketing technique. Buy the steaks and we'll send you free hamburger so that you can taste and order it next time too! Or they were overstocked in hamburger! LOL
