June Kamm (dupo) ~ I agree re: call 911 and that is it. While he was found not guilty that does not mean that he is innocent of killing someone. Who knows but Tevor Martin might have claimed self-defense if he were still alive. I do feel sorry for Zimmerman in that he has to live with the fact that he killed the teenager.

When the jury asked for more info on the manslaughter charge they must have been considering it. Like you I don't know enough about Florida law but it did surprise me that it was a 6 person jury instead of 12. Easier to get agreement from 6 than it would have been from 12, which could have resulted in a hung jury.

It was interesting that in an interview with Fox TV, Zimmerman had said that he had never heard of the "stand your ground" doctrine that Florida has, yet on the stand the teacher of one of the criminal justice courses that it had been covered in the course and that Zimmerman had received an A. Also in one of the inteviews, Zimmerman said that he "forgot" he was carrying a gun... Yikes! Scary that this guy walked around loaded for bear but forgets he is packing. On another program people who do carry guns said they found it unbelieveable - that one never forgets that one is carrying a gun. Yeah, I would think that would be the most basic of gun safety - remembering that you are carrying and realizing that someone could end up dead because you have a gun on you - might be the other person, might be a loved one, might be you.

Again scary that this guy wanted to be a law enforcement officer but forgets he is carrying a gun.

What I wonder is does he still have a gun license...

As I said in some respects I feel sorry for him. If it were me I would change my name, move far away, and oh yeah, try to make amends and seek forgiveness of Martin's family. But the latter will never happen if the lawyers have anything to do with it since his seeking forgiveness of the family might impact on whatever cases he is going to bring or are brought against him.
