In the learn something new everyday department . . .
Several inventions, including the taser, have been directly inspired by the fictional inventions of Tom Swift. "TASER" is an acronym for "Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle." John H. "Jack" Cover, one of the brains behind the invention, named the Taser. Cover is also a former chief scientist of North American Aerospace's Apollo Moon Landing Program. Cover added the "A" to Tom Swift's name. The original character did not have a middle name.
I mentioned this to DH and he said that he already knew since Swifty had told him. Guess my email entitled "Who knew?" will have a return reply of "I did." Those sons of mine are always one step (or more LOL) ahead of me!
