Once again I fell asleep way too early and then woke up and got to work. I did take advantage of my waking up at a little after midnight east coast time to call my son on the west coast! We rarely talk during the week since by the time he gets home from work and gets around to calling I am already asleep.

I don't watch the TV reality program called "Big Brother" but I have read some articles on the current season. It will be very interesting when some of those people come out of the bubble they have been living in and find themselves without jobs and the subject of much scorn (well, I guess there are always those who think like them and will think they were great for using racist terms.) Interestingly that this is all taking place at the same time Paula Deen has been losing her sponsors and not just for a word that she used. In her case it goes much, much deeper.

This article is a week or two old. I haven't checked to see what has happened since then. I do know that the host, Julie Chong, said she found it very hurtful and that it took her back to when she was a child and called names...

Big Brother: Hate Speech In House Sparks Fervent Reaction (the reality tv program)

A handful of Big Brother houseguests are in hot water – and not just those up for eviction this week.

Since moving in to the house less than two weeks ago, contestants Aaryn Gries, GinaMarie Zimmerman, Spencer Clawson and others have been documented using racial, homophobic and misogynistic slurs on the 24-hour live feeds online.

The hate speech – which has reportedly been directed towards the women, African-Americans, Asians and gays in the house – has sparked a fervent reaction from both fans and former contestants of the CBS reality show.

As a result of the documented slurs, Gries, 22, has been dropped by her modeling agency in Texas and Zimmerman, 32, has been fired from her employer East Coast Pageant, Inc.,

In a statement, East Coast USA Pageant said they were in fact "thankful that this show let us see GinaMarie for who she truly is" having "never known this side of GinaMarie or have ever witnessed such acts of racism in the past." They added, "In a business where we are surrounded by beauty every day we are saddened to see something so ugly come from someone we put on a very high pedestal."

In Aaryn Gries show bio, she states her biggest fear: “People with evil or absent minds that hurt or deceive others.”
