Greetings from Penn's Woods where the weather has been gorgeous and the corn has never been better and the same with the tomatoes. The cantaloupes are so sweet too. Farmers have said that just the right amount of rain has been falling. Tomorrow it is back to the Farmer's Market for more of both. While we will stick to eating it as corn on the cob, my MIL wants plenty so that she can freeze some.
Haven't had time to read the board lately but am sorry to see about salmegal's break-in.
A number of people on this board have dealt with breast cancer or are dealing with it. Way too common. Sorry to hear that another person has been stricken with it.
This week my sons have been playing the "Where in the world you are" game. Swifty flew out to San Diego last Wednesday to drive back home with his friend who finished law school there. They were supposed to go to San Francisco since his friend had never been there and they would stay with LLB. As it turned out Swifty's friend recently did make a road trip with another friend to SF so they cut out that part of the trip. Just as well because by the time they would have arrived, LLB would be back in Vancouver for his once a month weekly visit. So it was off to Las Vegas after a visit to one of the law school friends in Los Angeles. After Las Vegas it was on to Austin, TX where the brother of Swifty's friend lives. Actually the brother the same age as Swifty and was first his friend and then the younger brother became a friend too. After Austin, it is on to New Orleans. I think that is where they are headed today. Just emailed Swifty for an update of "where in the world are you." I can't wait to hear about his trip and esp. New Orleans.
Recently watched part of one of those dumb reality shows. The conversation consisted of mostly one person calling a former friend, "two-faced" and another calling another "hypocrite" . In both cases I thought the labels were very apt. Oh and when one or more would get caught in a lie, they would say "well at least I own it." shessh why lie in the first place? Oh yeah, must be either to make themselves look good or for ratings. Or maybe that is just they way they operate on a regular basis.
Anyway the word, two-faced got me thinking about the etymology. Not surprising it is thought to come from Janus of ancient Roman religion and myth, who is usually depicted as having two faces. Janus presided over the beginning and ending of conflict, and hence war and peace. He also looked to the future and to the past. The Romans named the month of January (Ianuarius) in his honor. But of course, today's use of two-faced is very different.
