    Greetings from sunny Penn's Woods,

diane (furtima) ~ The description of where you lived in Texas sounds wonderful. Now that is a place I wouldn't mind living in Texas. It sounds as if you had a great day yesterday. So happy for you. We all deserve those special days, but right now you really need them.

TreasureMomz (Sam) So true about the ups and downs of any large city...small ones too! Very true about finding the great places by those in the know. The last time he was in LA was a quick trip and most of his time was spent on the freeway driving to a friend from back here who lived in Orange County. That time it was the freeway driving that got to him! He is a New Yorker now who either walks or takes the subway, or a taxi now and then. I'm sure if the 'right opportunity' presented itself he might consider LA, but I think if he moved to the West Coast his goal is San Francisco and not because that is where his brother is but that doesn't hurt.

stamphick (David) I emailed Swifty your comments but didn't expect it to have much of an impact in his itinerary but at least he has a heads-up as to what to expect. Neither he nor his friend have been to New Orleans. One time when he was planning one of his cross-country train trips he did consider taking that route but went instead the northern route. After New Orleans, they will head north and be home by the weekend. Anyway in reply to my email with your comments, he said:

"Can't be that much worse than the 112 degree weather that was Vegas or the 100 degree and smog/humidity that was LA. Plus there is nothing else nearby."

Now don't tell me about that "dry heat" in Vegas. I've experienced the over 100 degree "dry heat" of the Vegas and at the Grand Canyon. It is still hot, hot, hot! We camped at the the Grand Canyon.

bookdelle/Carol I thought you and Suzanne might be interested in this New York Times article about Leonard Cohen. It is rather sweet. I emailed it to shibadiva who liked his songs too.
