lele- the subway cars are air conditioned now - not when I lived there and that was an experience. I don't know if the stations themselves are air conditioned - I doubt it.
My daughter just spent a week in Manhattan at a specialized theater movement workshop. She used airbnb and got a place in midtown for most of the week and then was able to stay with a friend from graduate school a couple of nights. I'll ask her about her apartment stay. I'm not aware that NYU was ever called anything else.
Interesting about your mother & Queens college. Queens only opened about 1937 as my parents remembered it when the original buildings were a boys reform school! Not an easy commute from Brooklyn.
