Jim- I read your post with interest, because we gave my 80 year old mother a Kindle for Christmas too! Next week, she is going on a two week cruise to Africa, and we thought it would be helpful to carry one light device with multiple books on it. (The cruise is despite the fact that she has multiple health problems and it's going through pirate territory! She says that she would rather die at the hand of pirates than in a nursing home like my father. Kind of have to admire her spirit!) Anyway, we also had the hardest time trying to figure out how to turn the thing on. We finally figured it out, charged it, downloaded several books, and are hoping that there are some tech savvy people on the boat who can help her if she can't figure it out!
