• Good morning! DH and I were able to get away for a couple of days this weekend. It was great! We were going to tent camp in Big Sur, but sadly all the campgrounds were full so we were forced to get an ocean-front hotel room in Moonstone Beach (Cambria) with a complimentary daily bottle of sparkling wine and breakfast delivered to the room. It was a struggle, but we survived the hardship. Ah ha ha ha ha!

We drove up and down the coast of Big Sur, hiked high up the walls of a canyon on Saturday (I still ache) and strolled Moonstone Beach, picking up pretty stones I have yet to identify. Sunday morning DH had to stop and wait for a deer to stroll leisurely across the road, and then about 1/2 mile further had to stop again for a fox to finish carrying her freshly caught breakfast across the road.

The best part is both kids came home to care for Mom. Between them and my eBay/estate sale partner and friend Pam stopping by periodically, I don't think Mom even missed us. She was as happy and calm as can be when we got home. I don't remember when I have had such a nice, relaxing break.

Now I'm thinking we may be able to take Mom up there for her 90th birthday in August. We can take the coastal Amtrak to Paso Robles and rent a car to go to Cambria. Since the rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves we can even take Mom's special foods in a cooler with us. And, she can enjoy the beach from her wheelchair because they have a beautiful, long boardwalk right along the sand. I'm really hoping I can make that work. It would be a special birthday present.
