Book Question. Trying to find out about value, rarity, anything anyone can tell me.
Doctor Dolittle's Zoo
Written and illustrated by Hugh Lofting
Fredrick A. Stokes Company
1925I could find only 4 total references to this book on google, and only one for sale which was a 1953 printing.
Then I found my addall link and checked there. They have several ( do not know why they did not come up on my bookfinders search)
This one http://www.biblio.com/details.php?dcx=404077697&aid=aa&t=1# is listed at $175.00 and is in bad condition.Mine is even better than the one at $250.00 here http://biblio.co.uk/details.php?dcx=471845652&aid=aa&t=1#
There is really neat zoom in feature for the photos . ebay could take some lessons from these people.
MY BOOK
I have no other printing info but the 1925. I believe that it is a first Amercan edition. No D/J. The gray binding on my is really gray, not tan as in the pictured on in the above link.
My cover is bright with ten to twelve colors in the cover pastedown and. Some soiling to edges but corners are barely bumped and just the slightest softness to head and foot of spine. The spine is not even sunned but a hair darker from exposure to air.
Color frontpiece is pristine with tissue between it and title page. The book looks unread. Also, mine looks like it has a gilt top edge. No one else refers to a gilt top edge. Thoughts?Do I have something that could help pay for my new septic tank? lol Realizing that a book is only worth what someone will pay for it, it sure would help if it was up there. Also my book is in much better shape than the ones listed at $175-$250.
MAUREEN - Keeping you in my thoughts.
