I decided against the surgery after further conversation with my doctor. Her feeling is that unless the hip implant has failed or it is a life and death situation, once a hip replacement is done, it should not be re-opened. There is a high risk of infection. It just really really felt that if I had the surgery, I would go through a lot for very little and even that was iffy. I did not just break a bone, a piece of bone the size of a half dollar broke off my pelvis. I am fine with my decision. If I must use a cane, I will. I get around inside the house fine without a cane, I do still feel I need it for stairs and on uneven ground, but walk all around my yard and garden without a cane. I go back to see my doctor May 20. I will have new xrays and see how the pelvis is and will get a prescription for a mobility scooter to use for flea markets, shopping malls, etc.
