I lived in a different state but I would visit my mother for a few weeks twice a year. I mostly took care of here finances. She had some financial stock that she didn't understand so I had her cash that in and put it into her checking account. She then didn't have to worry about writing bad checks. She never used credit cards, she just wrote checks. That made her estate easy to settle.
My father refused to pay for cable TV. He had a "perfectly good" TV antenna up on the roof. When we visited my brother or I would have to climb up on the roof and try to adjust it. I finally had cable installed and it was charged to my credit card. I think my father still thought it was the antenna that was getting him such a good picture and all those channels.
My mother had a TV monitor connected to a TV camera on her desk. If she wanted to read or write something she would put it under the camera and read the blow up on the TV screen. When she passed away I had it donated to the federation for the blind.
