Where I used to live in Middleboro, MA was the Nemasket River. There used to be a herring run every year where hoards if herring would swim upriver each year to spawn. I used to catch them bare handed. I used to stand on a rock in the edge of the river with my hand under the water. When a fish would slowly swim by I would just move my hand forward and lift him out. Not as sporting as fly fishing by I did get results. For real fishing I would use a line, hook and bobbin and sit in the bank waiting for the bobbin to be pulled down by a fish. That was real Norman Rockwell fishing.
