I was very different from my family in that I craved quiet and order and life with my family was messy and often noisy since there was no limit to the number of friends we could have in the house at one time. Being the oldest of 4 children I was fortunate to have my own room where I could retreat from the chaos – that was my salvation. My parents had only 2 rules: we had to do well in our school work and we had to go to church and Sunday school (Sunday school was often on Saturday morning, thus putting a damper on the whole weekend) without complaint. We were Catholic and the church was small without many children - none my age - and quite misunderstood among my school friends. But I set them straight when they had questions and didn’t suffer because of my faith even though I was the only Catholic in my school until high school. My Mom was very creative and was of the opinion that creative people could not be bothered with “orderliness”. I learned many things from her but housekeeping was not one of them - that I had to learn by observing the mothers of my friends. Growing up I used to wish that she was like “all the other mothers” but as an adult I came to realize what a gem she was. I knew I wasn’t adopted because I looked just like her :-).

The plumbers are at the house so it looks like I really will be able to break out of here tomorrow.
