Got this in an e-mail from an old friend. Thought it was good for a giggle and ties in with Jim's, electrical postings.. (sort of)..
PHONE REPAIRAn Ellisville school teacher called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.
The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.
The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system'sground wire with a steel chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.
4.. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by
pissing and moaning.
Thought you'd like to know. -
Diane, sending cyber (((hugs))) and sincere condolences on your loss. I know you did so much and should be proud of how you managed each situation as it arose. Positive thoughts heading your way.

Shivadiva, Yes that's the region I read about and I spent 2 weeks just a bit further east a few years ago. I think I'll plan a trip there in the spring to check it out and see what I can find. I just need to purge and get my ducks in a row.. so I'm thinking it will take a year of setting and acheiveing some goals and get my finances in order.

Geeesh, my spelling just s*cks.. sorry about that.

Hey Bob I love Sea World.. I'll go anytime. I remember when we first moved here it was $14.95 for the day and free parking. Now the parking is $14.95...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... My first annual pass for Sea World had the best photo of me ever taken. It had been raining and my hair was wet but I was laughing so hard and the picture was so good. I think I still have it tucked in a drawer along with my Star Trek ID card. :-}
Liz, I know England has really restrictive rules about annimals. My uncle used to work customs in New York and Liz Taylor got upset with him because of the quaranteen on her dog. I need to check the rules for France. Reading the Norton books, it seems that there isn't a problem. Norton used to fly back and forth to Paris all the time. Air France now flies out of Orlando direct to Paris so I need to check with them and see.
Lots to do before then to get ready. I need to get some listings done tonight so I can play hookey tomorrow. -
Ahh, Dupo, so sorry about Kitty. i dread when my Shadow passes. He's such a big part of my life and such good company. My biggest problem with uprooting to France is how to get him there comfortably. I think I'll need to buy him a seat on the plane with a special request for his fluffy high end cat food.
Never2Old2tap, I will def. keep you updated. Where Salmegal lives is also mentioned in the article that got me started on this. It's one of 6 affordble places to retire. Merida, where my neighbors have their place is also on the list. I figure if winters in France get too cold I can fly to Mexico and spend a month or two with them.Just had lunch with friends to say goodbye to a good friend who is moving back to New York state. She's not been happy here for awhile and can't find work so she's packing it in and heading back north. She's looking forward to fall and changing leaves.
Tomorrow I go to Universal Studios with another friend who has some free passes. We keep putting it off because of crowds and other things going on but finally decided that if we wait we'll never get there. Going to Islands of Adventure and Harry Potter World. We're gonna drink Butter Beer and ride the rides. Whoopee...

Fleas & cats. I had a major infestation when I had a dog visiting. Frontline Plus just wasn't working for me so I bought some of those flea traps they sell on e-bay. Sticky paper and a nightlight in a round plastic holder. Works great. I also went to the healthfood store and bought herbal flea collars. It took awhile but they work great. I keep the flea traps going and use them as nightlights but they alert me to any flea problem that may reccur.

I haven't posted much but am enjoying the "new" Book Board. Mingomom, sorry you are having such a terrible time after the surgery. I don't remember having any problems after mine. I need to think about knee replacement but I keep putting it off. Read about stem cell injection working but don't think I'm a good candidate.
I'm running around trying to catch up on stuff so I'm ready for my trip next month. Going with friends to Ireland for 5 days, London for 5 days, and 10 days in Paris. Seems like a lot but so much to do and so little time.
I'm looking into an area in the Southwest of France to possibly relocate next year. I've started listing again on eBay and need to really kick that into high gear so I can get rid of stuff and make some $$.
A bit crazy at my age but if I don't do it now, when? I plan to rent so can always change my mind and come back. Or go somewhere else.
Thanks for the info on teeth cleaning Laurie my one cat really needs it and I dread having him anethetized.
I'm off to shower and dress. Going away party for a friend at lunch. She does my floors for me and I'm really going to miss her. It's okay for me to leave but I hate when my friends do it. LOL -
Whoops.. sorry about the bold. I forgot to close the tag...

Kaye (Bouton), I have the nook and like it. I get the free books that B & N offers every Friday. Some I don't bother with but others are pretty good. There are some 99 cent bargains, too. I am inundated with real books and trying to weed some out and even though I am still a sucker for real books and buy way too many, I like that I can enlarge the font in the nook and it makes it easier to read. I have a large floater in my left eye and the past two years my new glasses just don't seem to work well for reading. I got my nook refurbished and at about half the regular price so couldn't resist.
Mingo*Mom. Sending good thoughts. I had mine done a few years back and no problems at all. I had a very nice anesthesia guy who helped. I'm not keen on anesthesia either.

So good to see everyone here. I hope it stays somewhat peaceful but still interesting. I like reading about the sales, books, pets, lifestyles, travels, travails, and on and on.. Prefer to stay away from religion, politics and snits. Life is too short to not enjoy it.
Thanks for the welcome, Liz, Treasuremom, and NevertoooldtoTap... and everyone else I haven't seen in awhile.
I just got back from a concert in Las Vegas and yes, Liz, I am planning to head to Paris again by way of Ireland and London. My bucket list is long and time is short. Mainelady's passing just gives me more incentive to throw caution to the wind and do it. My favorite quote:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain -
Hi.. just found out about this board. I'll need to figure out how to navigate it. Looks like my whole post is bold.. hmmm. I think I may like it here. Some familiar names that I haven't seen for a bit are here.
