Hi Everyone! It's been a long time since I dropped in to chat. Thanks to Webmaster Curt I made it! I've had a lot of time on my hands this week without being able to do much. On March 17th I slipped on some slushy wooden steps and fell breaking 4 ribs. My feet went right out from under me. I go back to work on Tuesday with modified duties - no lifting for 3 weeks. I've been reading a lot & watching TV shows that I've recorded.

Another big storm is on it's way for Sunday. 50+ cm of snow with blizzard conditions (converted I think that works out to about 2 ft). I'm supposed to work that day, we will see. The last big storm I didn't go in for my shift at 11:30 am & they closed the store at 2 pm. Home Depot doesn't usually close due to weather but during that storm the conditions were so bad that some roads were closed. I can't wait for this winter to be over! How many days until spring??

We always have more than 6 weeks of winter whether or not the ground hog sees his/her shadow, but it would be nice for a bit of sun to greet the ground hog as he/she eases out of his/her burrow tomorrow morning.

Yes, I did survive the 3 storms in the last week, but Mother Nature has another one (blizzard) on it's way tomorrow afternoon/evening/overnight. I'm off tomorrow but I do work on Tues. Last Friday night I stayed at a co-worker's as I had to work early on Sat morning, she suggested that I stay Sat night too, as it snowed all day Sat, but I needed to go home to see to my cat, Jazzmine. January was cold here but virtually no snow until this past week. I hope Feb doesn't continue the snow trend. I saw a picture of Grumpy cat on Facebook tonight that summed it up for me, it showed the cat in snow up to her neck with the saying "Enough Already"

The storm may have missed New York City but it hit us full on in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. I didn't go to work today because of the storm. I live in a rural area and i'm about a mile from the main road. I wasn't sure that I would have been able to get back home had I gone to work. It was a good thing as my street wasn't plowed at 4 pm when I checked last. It's still snowing and the winds are still blowing. I still have power & have the bath tub full of water incase the power does go off as I'm on a well. At 4 pm the snow was up to my knees & deeper in drifts. I'm moving in March back into the city, so I'll be much closer to work and not on a well, so will have water in power outages. Hopefully all those in the storm's path will get through it OK.

Thanks for the good wishes Aeg & Patsy - My power came back on yesterday while I was at work. It was nice to have a hot shower this morning before heading off to work. The shipment of generators that I mentioned before arrived last evening after the store had closed for the day. We contacted the customers and I (along with a few other co-workers) went back to the store so they could come & pick them up. I had a great nap after work this evening to try to catch up on some sleep. I've thrown out some food from my fridge but I didn't open my freezer during the outage, so I should fare better there. My power was out for about 28-30 hours. I'm off tomorrow, so I will get caught up on chores etc.

I will probably loose all my frozen food & and most of what's in my fridge unless it comes back on tonight. There are long line-ups for gasoline & generators. We sold the last D batteries this morning. Could have been a whole lot worse, I guess. There are so many trees down on power lines.

I won a free appetizer (on my next visit) when I spun "the wheel". I'm wearing my Red Sox shirt today & see that there's been lots of baseball talk. Saw Matt Stairs yesterday at the restaurant. He's from my hometown and has retired from baseball and is living back here now. I watched him play hockey with the high school team when he was a teenager. I saw online before that season started that he is doing TV coverage for the Phillies now.

I was up really early Thursday morning so I could get the car out before the plow came down my street. I ended up locking all the car doors with my keys in the ignition & my spare car keys in my purse in the car. Luckily I had the house keys in my coat pocket and my cell phone in my pants pocket. I called CAA and they came & got my car door opened. I still was able to beat the plow! My car was running for close to an hour, so it was nicely warmed up!! I was early for work as I got such an early start to the day.

I have never played the game but I had planned to go to an Open House at a curling club years ago and then developed back pain and couldn't go. I got interested in watching the game on TV in 1980 during the World Junior Championships that were held in my hometown. The commentators explained the game very well so I watched it on TV, I would have had trouble understanding what it was all about if I had seen it in person.

I'm having a quiet evening at home watching a series called Berkeley Square on DVD. It's set in 1902 London and it's about 3 young girls who become Nannys in wealthy homes. It's 8 1/2 hrs, so it's a mini series, I guess. Can't promise that I'll still be awake for midnight, even though my time zone puts me an hour ahead of Eastern time!

Carol - It's unusual for us to have this much snow in Dec. The freezing rain storms this far north are becoming more common, a result of global warming, I guess. At work today a shipment of snowblowers arrived (we were sold out prior to their arrival). We were selling them as fast as they could get them assembled!

I was out shovelling for 1 hour so far, cleared the front steps & walkway, cleared off the car & all around the car.

Merry Christmas everyone! Still digging out from all the snow & then all the ice over the last few days. I'm very thankful that my power stayed on, there are some in my province of New Brunswick who may not have it back on until Sat. I had today off from work & went out to pick up a few things late this morning. Traffic was slow moving, but the drivers were especially nice in letting cars merge into their lane when exiting from a business. I picked up a pumpkin pie that I had ordered from a bakery this morning and noticed that they had mince meat tarts, so I bought 1 to try. It is made with beef, they told me to heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds and put some ice cream on it. I am saving it for tomorrow!

I hear the ice pellets hitting the window again, not looking forward to the drive to work in the morning. There is a freezing rain warning again for tomorrow. Give me snow any day over freezing rain. I was on a bus (years ago) that went off the road during freezing rain, scared me enough, although I was just bruised and shaken up. We did have to crawl out of the escape hatch in the ceiling of the bus as it had flipped over on its right side where the door was.

The snow has stopped, I guess the storm moved more quickly than expected. I fell asleep in the late afternoon and when I went out to shovel I was pleasantly surprised to see that my neighbour across the street had cleared the mouth of my driveway up to the car's front fender! I shoveled for 20 minutes to just reach the car from the front door. I was out for 1 hour but haven't done the back half of the driveway or the back door yet. Not sure how much snow fell but it seemed to be up to my knees in most places unless there was drifting.

I made the Cinnamon Swirl Cream of Wheat this morning, very good. I use skim milk instead of water and added a sliced banana on top with a bit more skim milk. I made Cinnamon Pastry coffee in my Keurig.

It's snowing heavily now, I went out to the car and brought my snow brush inside the house. I don't work until 12:30 pm tomorrow, so I'll have lots of time to clear the mouth of the driveway after the plow driver fills it up about 5:20am. On week days that seems to be the time the plow goes by. I park the car about half way in the driveway, so I only need to shovel the area between the car and the street to get the car out. I shovel the rest in the next few days and hope that I finish that task before it snows again! Sometimes a kind neighbour with a snow blower helps out!
