We're lucky at our local grocery stores. So far, they use baggers, who rotate between stations, and the checkers themselves bag stuff as they price it. My DH helps bag stuff too. Baggers always ask if we want help out too. And we still are asked if we want paper or plastic. Don't think that will last much longer, tho. They have banned plastic bags in a large part of L.A. county.
I NEVER use the self checkout. I'm one of the slow learners, I guess, but I'm not even interested. I see people struggling to get thru it all the time. No fun.
