Patsy, thanks for the info. Our volunteers sound like yours - a very lovely group who also volunteer in other areas in the community.

Warming up and today I even went out without my winter jacket although I should have worn one because of the wind. It's kicking up whirlwinds of dust, sand, gravel & leaves leftover after the snow disappeared. If you want traction either sand or salt is spread on the roads & in some areas they're experimenting with beet juice to de-ice. Now we've got the aftermath to deal with.

Noticed a patch of tulip leaves popping up - don't know when the flowers will appear but they're a sure sign of spring albeit a little late.

Wishing the potties a good evening. Marson

Pasty - where do you live. I only wish our book sales could generate such profit - live in an area of about 10,000 people. We have the same issue of getting volunteers as many are seniors and can't sort, pack, lift boxes, etc. and be on their feet alot. Could use any ideas you have. Thanks, Marson (glassie lurker)

Lurker here - June, when I moved and went to use the washer, it rattled, rolled, moved and walked - tried levelling, etc. Called an appliance mechanic & we moved & lifted the machine & he pulled out a piece of wood which was stapled between the drum & machine bottom - apparently some manufacturers do this so the drum & innards don't moved around while in transit & should be removed when installing it & before operating it. Wonder how the people before me managed - either they never used it and/or put it in before the house was sold. Hope you find your answer quickly & inexpensively. Marson the glassie

Re: average amount people spend on Valentine's Day gifts. Nine people don't spend any money but the tenth person buys his girlfriend an engagement ring for Valentines at a cost of $5000. Hence, the statistic that the average person spends $500 for gifts. Silly but it sure makes it seems like people spend alot on that day.... Marson the lurker

Good afternoon - hope this finds you well. Beth - glad you got some good news regarding son in that they found the eye problem ... what a relief and that they can treat it immediately. JoAnne - there are so many of those telephone scams i.e. injured or arrested grandchildren, need money for surgery, bail, whateverelse they can come up with , keep it a secret, don't tell parents, your computer was hacked 'let me fix it', the bank or some governmental agency wants to check your account because somebody is embezzling (please help us), ad nauseum. The Received a call that there was a warrant out for me and the police would come to pick me up. Before they could continue, I replied, "Fine, let them come & get me" - Took a while before the person recovered enough to try to impress me with "You understand that the police will come unless..." to which I interrupted & said "I understand, no problem, have them come". At which point I hung up and to this day, nobody's picked me up. LOL. Marson

Sandy - up here in our province (MB) you need a license to sell DVD/CD movies, etc. (at least that's what I heard - we couldn't sell them along with our books for the hospital book sale as we needed a license, which was too costly for the amount we had) ... we could however sell them if they were "CD books", read by authors or people. The CD/DVD movies were donated to the thrift store which has a license. However, they're sold at garage sales privately. Don't know if that helps you any.
Hope all of you had a healthy & happy Christmas. Marson from the glass board

Now that the thunderstorm & rain is over, for the moment, thought I'd come & visit and see what the book people are up to. While it was thundering & raining decided to catch up on some reading - actually looking through some Architectural Digests - don't know if that counts). Finished reading a book by Toller Cranston (a former Canadian skater/artist) and MY WAY by Paul Anka - have a few coffee table books on 'art glass', 'jewelry art' and one on The Group of Seven and Tom Thompson to read (from the library) - need a new bookcase for my own books (over 1/2 which are unread) so why am I borrowing or buying new ones? Is it a disease/addiction?

Don't know if any of you come to visit the glass or pottery people but last week we had a death in the family....Amber passed away. I think she used to come & visit here sometimes. I hope this day finds you well - Marson

Diane - crying is good - your sister has been and is brave - crying relieves stress and cleanses the system as well and it's good to let the emotions go - she sounds like a very caring individual as do you. (hope all my grammar is ok) Jim - that's a darling granddaughter and glad your wife got a clean bill ofhealth. Hi Patsy: hope your day is going well. Eileen, good that you found the room & friends. Stamphick - don't know your name but trust you're doing well. Hello Irene - do you really love to hike. Have one tentetively sscheduled for tomorrow but we'll see how that goes. June, keep them temperature updates coming - I look forward to seeing what type of weather others are getting. Hey there Janice - good day. Bob - look forward to the daily .gifs. If I missed anyone, it's not intentional but I don't always see who's here or it slips my mind (that's normal). 🙂 Marson

Balkan or Greek yogurt and acidophyllus sp? are also good (live cultures)also are good for the system. When you've got a compromised immune system you have to be very careful also if you have food allergies. You're fortunate when you have access to farmer's markets and can get locally grown product. My FIL would take whiskey or vodka on his travels and have some to keep away all the nastie germs on foods. Worked for him 🙂 Had some crackers with goat cheese to go along with the bowl of soup. The mosquitos are out, so I'm in. Marson

Must be a day for steak & potatoes - that's what I had ... Jim, my concession was to good health was the potatoes cooked with celery & garlic (no salt) topped with a smidgen of 3 cheese dressing, yellow beans (veggie), mushrooms with balsamic vinegar, and only ate 1/2 the steak (less than the recommended size of a deck of cards). Didn't even have desert.

Liz - nowadays it's hard to know whom to trust with health/food inspections, etc. as in the past few years, whether it's been been meat slaughterhouses, packers, processors, refridgeration, cooking methods, Ecoli, etc. etc. etc. Some of the deadliest germs & viruses are often found in hospitals, Mers, Sars, c-deficile, etc. One can be paranoid if one delves too deeply. LOL

Guess it's time to prepare supper (steak was for lunch) so it will probably just be a bowl of soup. Wishing everyone a good evening. Marson

Liz - isn't Halal processed food for Muslims like Kosher processed food for the Jews. Doesn't mean that we can't eat it if we're of their ethnic persuation. Often has to meet strict standards for raising as well as processing. It's also the time of Ramadan when the Muslims are fasting.
Food taste & quality has changed. I try to pray over my food and eat in moderation unless it's chocolate then I may eat a tad more but even that I try to stick to a small piece of the dark chocolate 🙂 Wishing the board a good day and good health. Marson

There's lots of fishing in our province - land of 100,000 lakes (all sizes) catfish, goldeye (nice smoked), trout, pickerel and if you go up north, sturgeon, arctic char, and whales but you can't fish for those 🙂 Enjoy reading about everyones trips & sales. Marson

Bob - do you put bacon, sausage, butter, hot sauce & pepper to cover the taste of the grits??? Ducking under a table here 🙂 I am not a fan of cream of wheat either, although my mother eats it daily along with oats & flax oil (yuck) but she's in her early nineties and doing well. However, I don't mind buckwheat: preferrably in cabbage rolls with mushrooms & gravy topping them or in a bowl with chicken broth. Don't know about viddles. Lol. Marson

Interesting topics of conversation the past few days. We've had lots of snowfall and windchill factors to make it cold out there. Have a some snowdrift that I can shovel (or not). My sister did babysitting to earn money but that wasn't my thing. My first job was working in a library, typing catalogue cards, filing, etc. Oldest son took his sweet time signing up for classes in high school and ended up being the only boy in early childhood learning and other such subjects - that included a babysitting course. Needless to say, he got quite a few jobs babysitting. Helping with our hospital auxillary and their semi-annual book sale (I help with sorting & pricing, packing, etc.) Hope you all have a good day. I'm off to have lunch. Marson

LIZ - yup! sure would be different if we had married the pimply-faced nerds or if they had married us 🙂 things could have been better or perhaps worse - too many options to ponder LOL - the snow is packing down & getting slushy and we may have rain & wind overnight - not a pretty site to look at or drive it and even worse to shovel. Hope everyone has a pleasant eveing. Marson the glassie lurker
