Bread - had to join the conversation and get off lurker mode. Love it. White, rye, sourdough, baguettes, brioche, wheat, multigrain, etc. Used to have a breadbox now it's just the kitchen counter. Despite all the things you can do with it, often it does go moldy & into the garbage. Sometimes I bake my own but often it comes from the store. When it gets to the almost stale part (depending on the bread & amount) I take it and grind it in the blender & let some dry on a baking sheet for panko style crumbs, the other portion goes in plastic bags & into the freezer for when I need fresh crumbs for chicken or beef burgers or to add to stuffing. Other times I dry the bread slices and then grind them in the blender & put them into bags or jars for dry crumbs for coating meat, etc. Or I make croutons for salads or stuffing. When not quite fresh, the slices become french toast or cinnamon toast.
Or it can be toasted and dried and made into rusks. The heel is good for dipping and sopping up soup or gravy. Some of it may make it outside for the birds 🙂 Marson
