• Patsy, thanks for the info. Our volunteers sound like yours - a very lovely group who also volunteer in other areas in the community.

Warming up and today I even went out without my winter jacket although I should have worn one because of the wind. It's kicking up whirlwinds of dust, sand, gravel & leaves leftover after the snow disappeared. If you want traction either sand or salt is spread on the roads & in some areas they're experimenting with beet juice to de-ice. Now we've got the aftermath to deal with.

Noticed a patch of tulip leaves popping up - don't know when the flowers will appear but they're a sure sign of spring albeit a little late.

Wishing the potties a good evening. Marson

  • Pasty - where do you live. I only wish our book sales could generate such profit - live in an area of about 10,000 people. We have the same issue of getting volunteers as many are seniors and can't sort, pack, lift boxes, etc. and be on their feet alot. Could use any ideas you have. Thanks, Marson (glassie lurker)

  • Lurker here - June, when I moved and went to use the washer, it rattled, rolled, moved and walked - tried levelling, etc. Called an appliance mechanic & we moved & lifted the machine & he pulled out a piece of wood which was stapled between the drum & machine bottom - apparently some manufacturers do this so the drum & innards don't moved around while in transit & should be removed when installing it & before operating it. Wonder how the people before me managed - either they never used it and/or put it in before the house was sold. Hope you find your answer quickly & inexpensively. Marson the glassie

  • Re: average amount people spend on Valentine's Day gifts. Nine people don't spend any money but the tenth person buys his girlfriend an engagement ring for Valentines at a cost of $5000. Hence, the statistic that the average person spends $500 for gifts. Silly but it sure makes it seems like people spend alot on that day.... Marson the lurker

  • Good afternoon - hope this finds you well. Beth - glad you got some good news regarding son in that they found the eye problem ... what a relief and that they can treat it immediately. JoAnne - there are so many of those telephone scams i.e. injured or arrested grandchildren, need money for surgery, bail, whateverelse they can come up with , keep it a secret, don't tell parents, your computer was hacked 'let me fix it', the bank or some governmental agency wants to check your account because somebody is embezzling (please help us), ad nauseum. The Received a call that there was a warrant out for me and the police would come to pick me up. Before they could continue, I replied, "Fine, let them come & get me" - Took a while before the person recovered enough to try to impress me with "You understand that the police will come unless..." to which I interrupted & said "I understand, no problem, have them come". At which point I hung up and to this day, nobody's picked me up. LOL. Marson

  • Interesting topic on 'fireants'. Feel better PATSY. Enjoy reading about everyone's travels and books you're reading. Hi LIZ ! Good to see you back. Marson

  • Sandy - up here in our province (MB) you need a license to sell DVD/CD movies, etc. (at least that's what I heard - we couldn't sell them along with our books for the hospital book sale as we needed a license, which was too costly for the amount we had) ... we could however sell them if they were "CD books", read by authors or people. The CD/DVD movies were donated to the thrift store which has a license. However, they're sold at garage sales privately. Don't know if that helps you any.
Hope all of you had a healthy & happy Christmas. Marson from the glass board

  • Paula - looks like it could be Ukrainian or Russian (probably Eastern Ukraine) -- says
Travelling Document (or could be shipping document) (top greyish one) ... the first (bottom) one you posted has two peoples names on it as well as the telephone number ... mentions 3 million rubles (don't know how much that would currency would translate to) package has been inspected
    - something about an international lottery - "Spartak" - perhaps the name of the piece inside. Try 'google' for translations. Marson

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASINOKAT

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONNA

Very cold day here (warmer than yesterday but still bone-chilling cold). Good day to stay indoors, read, or even (close your ears - it's a four letter word) WORK. Have a safe & healthy day all you fine folks. marson

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS

Have a safe holiday - with good health, family and friends. Marson

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BETH & DH

  • GOOD AFTERNOON - hope all are having a good day. Marson

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAY

  • Beth - I found stamps and a book (partially filled) and a catalogue after my MIL passed away - didn't know they were still redeemable. Going through her things, I saw many items that were purchased through those stamps all those years ago. Also things that came in laundry soap like dishtowels & glasses and dishes & cutlery purchased with gas coupons (those my DH and I also outfitted our kitchen with LOL). Hope everyone is having a good day. marson

  • CONGRATULATIONS - red star! WELL DONE

  • Patsy - I use (used) a Sony Mavica - the battery died - now I have to find one - a store around here was going to order one for me but wanted a $35 deposit, which I didn't have on m, so the poor camera is sitting in its' case waiting till I can get into town (& know when I'd be back in order to pick it up). Think the camera is 10 years old - my computer tower has the floppy disc & CD disc slots on it. Marson enjoying the nice warm day

  • Now that the thunderstorm & rain is over, for the moment, thought I'd come & visit and see what the book people are up to. While it was thundering & raining decided to catch up on some reading - actually looking through some Architectural Digests - don't know if that counts). Finished reading a book by Toller Cranston (a former Canadian skater/artist) and MY WAY by Paul Anka - have a few coffee table books on 'art glass', 'jewelry art' and one on The Group of Seven and Tom Thompson to read (from the library) - need a new bookcase for my own books (over 1/2 which are unread) so why am I borrowing or buying new ones? Is it a disease/addiction?

Don't know if any of you come to visit the glass or pottery people but last week we had a death in the family....Amber passed away. I think she used to come & visit here sometimes. I hope this day finds you well - Marson

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MYSTERYHORSE

Sounds like you've got a wonderful day planned...have fun. Marson

  • Good idea Diane to rest - God grant you peace, comfort and strength in the coming days. You've been a real help to your sister Von and showing her love all along the way. My sympathy to you and the family. Marson

  • Irene - nice 'shot' of the visitor. I know what you mean about not doing it as often as before. Tried my hand at canoeing (after 30 years) & discovered the old lady still has it 🙂 Marson

  • Diane - prayers and gentle {{{HUGS}}} to you and your dear sister Von. Acknowledging all the nice people on this board. Marson the glassies

  • Diane - crying is good - your sister has been and is brave - crying relieves stress and cleanses the system as well and it's good to let the emotions go - she sounds like a very caring individual as do you. (hope all my grammar is ok) Jim - that's a darling granddaughter and glad your wife got a clean bill ofhealth. Hi Patsy: hope your day is going well. Eileen, good that you found the room & friends. Stamphick - don't know your name but trust you're doing well. Hello Irene - do you really love to hike. Have one tentetively sscheduled for tomorrow but we'll see how that goes. June, keep them temperature updates coming - I look forward to seeing what type of weather others are getting. Hey there Janice - good day. Bob - look forward to the daily .gifs. If I missed anyone, it's not intentional but I don't always see who's here or it slips my mind (that's normal). 🙂 Marson

  • WELCOME TO THE WORLD ESTRELLA MARIA </center)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EILEEN & Twin 🙂

HELLO to all the people on the book board ... Marson

  • Balkan or Greek yogurt and acidophyllus sp? are also good (live cultures)also are good for the system. When you've got a compromised immune system you have to be very careful also if you have food allergies. You're fortunate when you have access to farmer's markets and can get locally grown product. My FIL would take whiskey or vodka on his travels and have some to keep away all the nastie germs on foods. Worked for him 🙂 Had some crackers with goat cheese to go along with the bowl of soup. The mosquitos are out, so I'm in. Marson

  • Must be a day for steak & potatoes - that's what I had ... Jim, my concession was to good health was the potatoes cooked with celery & garlic (no salt) topped with a smidgen of 3 cheese dressing, yellow beans (veggie), mushrooms with balsamic vinegar, and only ate 1/2 the steak (less than the recommended size of a deck of cards). Didn't even have desert.

Liz - nowadays it's hard to know whom to trust with health/food inspections, etc. as in the past few years, whether it's been been meat slaughterhouses, packers, processors, refridgeration, cooking methods, Ecoli, etc. etc. etc. Some of the deadliest germs & viruses are often found in hospitals, Mers, Sars, c-deficile, etc. One can be paranoid if one delves too deeply. LOL

Guess it's time to prepare supper (steak was for lunch) so it will probably just be a bowl of soup. Wishing everyone a good evening. Marson

  • Liz - isn't Halal processed food for Muslims like Kosher processed food for the Jews. Doesn't mean that we can't eat it if we're of their ethnic persuation. Often has to meet strict standards for raising as well as processing. It's also the time of Ramadan when the Muslims are fasting.
Food taste & quality has changed. I try to pray over my food and eat in moderation unless it's chocolate then I may eat a tad more but even that I try to stick to a small piece of the dark chocolate 🙂 Wishing the board a good day and good health. Marson

  • Janice - I'm just southeast of Winnipeg. There's lots of fishing in our province - land of 100,000 lakes (all sizes) catfish, goldeye (nice smoked), trout, pickerel and if you go up north, sturgeon, arctic char, and whales but you can't fish for those 🙂 Enjoy reading about everyones trips & sales. Marson

  • What part of Canada are you from Janice? I'm in Manitoba. HAPPY CANADA DAY - have a great long weekend. Marson

  • Bob - do you put bacon, sausage, butter, hot sauce & pepper to cover the taste of the grits??? Ducking under a table here 🙂 I am not a fan of cream of wheat either, although my mother eats it daily along with oats & flax oil (yuck) but she's in her early nineties and doing well. However, I don't mind buckwheat: preferrably in cabbage rolls with mushrooms & gravy topping them or in a bowl with chicken broth. Don't know about viddles. Lol. Marson

  • The sun is out and drying things out after all the rain we've had. A little too wet to plant flowers in mud 🙂 If it dries during the day I'll go out in the evening a continue planting - hoping that the mosquitos aren't out yet.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TWODREAMERS

  • May your dental appointment be as painless as possible (in the tooth & wallet)

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROL

Good day to all. Marson the glassie

  • When my husband & I were still dating, we gave each other the same Valentine's day card. LOL. Marson

  • Still snow on the ground, so, no garage sales but a moving sale but it's also time to start cleaning parts of the yard (that are dry) and go canvassing for the Cancer society.
Carol - I also enjoyed the performance last night. The girl who danced as Billys daughter was terrific: such speed & fluidity in her dancing. ACKNOWLEDGING all the book people and hope you have a good day. Marson

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ

Chocolates for the gang including gluten free ones - all are calorie free as well - aren't cyberchocolates great 🙂 Good day to everyone. mmmMarson

  • Meant to say "bookies" not potties - wrong board, right people 🙂 Marson

  • Mystery - your DGD looks adorable and the dress is very nice. Yes, hemp is very versatile - hemp oil for cooking, hemp seeds for munching on, hemp fibre for rope or clothing, etc. Patsy - congratulations to you & the FOL group. It's alot of work and deserves to be recognized. Hope all the potties are having a safe & wonderful Easter/Passover weekend. Marson

  • Still have at least 2 1/2 ft. of snow on the ground although some of it is s-l-o-w-l-y melting but in between it's snowing big fat fluffy flakes of snow - just enough to look pretty and not enough to accumulate.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIANE

Wishing all the people on board - a good day! Marson

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUNE

and a HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY GAIL - best wishes to both of you and a Good Day to all the book people Marson the glassie

  • mysteryhorse - can I come and visit? - it's -20 (yes, that's a - in front of the 20) 🙂 Marson

  • Interesting topics of conversation the past few days. We've had lots of snowfall and windchill factors to make it cold out there. Have a some snowdrift that I can shovel (or not). My sister did babysitting to earn money but that wasn't my thing. My first job was working in a library, typing catalogue cards, filing, etc. Oldest son took his sweet time signing up for classes in high school and ended up being the only boy in early childhood learning and other such subjects - that included a babysitting course. Needless to say, he got quite a few jobs babysitting. Helping with our hospital auxillary and their semi-annual book sale (I help with sorting & pricing, packing, etc.) Hope you all have a good day. I'm off to have lunch. Marson

  • Good afternoon - hope everyone is having a good day. Mysteryhorse - that's encouraging isn't it - the little ones can lead. LIZ - yup! sure would be different if we had married the pimply-faced nerds or if they had married us 🙂 things could have been better or perhaps worse - too many options to ponder LOL - the snow is packing down & getting slushy and we may have rain & wind overnight - not a pretty site to look at or drive it and even worse to shovel. Hope everyone has a pleasant eveing. Marson the glassie lurker

  • Stopping by to wish the American bookies a HAPPY THANKSGIVING - have a safe day and enjoy it. Chocolates being passed around and I'm sure there's room for one (fortunately the cyber ones don't have any calories) Marson

  • Bread - had to join the conversation and get off lurker mode. Love it. White, rye, sourdough, baguettes, brioche, wheat, multigrain, etc. Used to have a breadbox now it's just the kitchen counter. Despite all the things you can do with it, often it does go moldy & into the garbage. Sometimes I bake my own but often it comes from the store. When it gets to the almost stale part (depending on the bread & amount) I take it and grind it in the blender & let some dry on a baking sheet for panko style crumbs, the other portion goes in plastic bags & into the freezer for when I need fresh crumbs for chicken or beef burgers or to add to stuffing. Other times I dry the bread slices and then grind them in the blender & put them into bags or jars for dry crumbs for coating meat, etc. Or I make croutons for salads or stuffing. When not quite fresh, the slices become french toast or cinnamon toast.
Or it can be toasted and dried and made into rusks. The heel is good for dipping and sopping up soup or gravy. Some of it may make it outside for the birds 🙂 Marson

  • I see quite a few familiar names from eBay as well as the regulars here. Preparing for a snowstorm so I'll quietly lurk and pass on good wishes to the book people

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DILLON

  • Just a lurker (glassie) stopping in to say WAY TO GO BETH 15,000 what alot of work you've done - you deserve every number. Marson

  • I'm a glassie lurker. I'm another one who likes to eat with chopsticks. More relaxing, gives me time to savour the food, although it may get cold, but if you want to lose a little weight that might be the way to go. LOL. Marson
