The farm that Harry Deleyer owned, Hollandia Farm, is very close to my Long Island summer cottage, I pass it every time I go to town. As a kid, I read a book about it (must have been Snowman I suppose), and found it fascinating, but I have never ridden. Maybe more of my interest was that it was about a real place in my area.
