When I was taking the test to get my GA driver's license, the DOMV guy said that most people look in the rear view mirror before hitting the turn signal. He said they should hit the turn signal and then look in the rear mirror. I don't get that. I look first and if someone is coming up I wait for him to go by and then give the turn signal before changing lanes. Giving the turn signal while a passing car is almost next to you is sure to cause him to think that you are about to turn into his lane and he had better hit the brakes before you do so.
(I have had MA, NY, GA, and PR driver's licenses. I surrendered my first Georgia license when I got my Puerto Rico license and then had to take the written and driving test when I came back to Georgia to get another GA license.)
