• Thanks Jane - will pass along those sites to her

  • Oh my, Jane - that's a fair amount of snow! Hope it isn't coming east

An eBay buyer of mine was asking if I knew of a book she'd read as a child ca 1950's / 1960's about a young girl that went to a farm and used to whisper in a horse's ear which ended up "taming" him. Doesn't ring a bell. anyone possibly remember?

  • I have been seeing a Naturopath (mostly thyroid and weight loss) but on my last visit to my Primary (traditional doctor), altho I had lost 30 pounds at that time, my BP went up and was quite high. Primary doubled my existing BP meds but before I did that I emailed Naturopath to ask him what he thought. He said dehydration can have a big effect on BP and to make sure I am drinking tons of water because a Keto diet makes everyone dehydrated. I did that and re-took BP at Rite Aid several weeks later and it had dropped somewhat. Still wanted to get it lower so Naturopath scheduled me for extensive labs to see what might be going on. Turns out Magnesium and Vit D levels (along w everything else) was normal. He mentioned those 2 in particular can cause high BP. Then I told him I've been taking OTC sleep aids for years. He said, well THAT will do it LOL. So I have decided to stop using the sleep aids and see what happens. Too soon to know. So if anyone is having BP issues, in addition to doctor's orders, try drinking more and maybe supplementing Vit D and magnesium...just a thought

  • LOL You explained it perfectly! Thx again

  • HI All - wondering if someone might give me some help/advice on this as I know NOTHING about art!!! Picked up this Lionel Edwards print at a tag - signed both in the print and on the matting. It is his Derwent Hunt print. I don't want to mislead anyone or make a mistake - do I call it print. watercolor, litho, or ??? Also while trying to figure out the title I notice some people say "After Lionel Edwards..." and I am not sure #1 what that means and #2 if it applies to this print. I think it might have some value but....not really sure - any advice would be appreciated!! TIA Barbara

  • Jane - I am probably not explaining this well - if I use the ISBN many times ebay puts it directly into Textbooks and there is no horse category there - I want to use Non Fiction but then I can't use the stock photo or the prefilled synopsis etc from the ISBN - I always have my own pix but the stock photo is nicer and I like having a little synopsis. IOW I can't seem to use the ISBN AND change to Non Fiction from Textbooks...not a biggie, maybe it is me!

Beth - hope you feel better soon - my husband went through something similar last month - severe shakes so he went to his doctor and he put him on doxy immediately and said he is seeing a lot of people w those symptoms. He did test + for Lyme but in his case several days on the doxy and he was much improved. Hope you feel better soon

  • Sandy - a close friend lived on Blydenberg park for many years - she and I used to trail ride our horses there -gorgeous park especially in the Fall. She has since moved to Jacksonville tho. Also a nice area....

Going down to LI Saturday for the day but not sure where...somewhere near Queens.

  • I think you are probably the one who mentioned her a little while back and I happened to see one at GW right afterwards. Will keep the others in mind for future - right now I have a ton of Dick Francis in the queue 🙂 Hard to find audio of his older ones so will just read those.

For those who enjoy thrillers - Ben Coes is wonderful with his Dewey Andreas series and also Mark Greaney writes the Gray Man series - all great thrillers!! spy stuff 🙂

  • Nice area bookbase....is the Mariner's Inn still there? My Ex was a waiter there back in the 70's.

Anyone who is selling books know a work around for non-fiction ISBNs that ebay throws into Textbook category! It seems like most of my horse books are thrown into Textbooks if I use the ISBN....so I don't use it because I can't figure out how to change the category so I can use the Topic I want.

Whoever recommended Margaret Coel, thank you...read Spider's Web. It was good

  • Congrats Bookbase!! Nice Sale

What part of LI are you from? I'm in CT now but grew up in Port Washington

  • I have enjoyed the Women's Murder Club (Patterson but written with/by Maxine Paetro ?) Also 'cause they are in number order so easier to remember which have been read LOL

Will have to try some others mentioned here, thanks

  • Hah Diane - I refuse to watch the Reacher movies because they cast Tom Cruise as a 6'5" 250 lb Jack Reacher - just can't do it LOL

June - thanks for the website, it's new to me and I have bookmarked it!!!

Thanks for the thghts on the e readers. Heck, I'm still on a flip phone so making the leap to an e reader would be huge for me LOL...but I know I will be doing it sooner or later and just use it for certain books only available as an ebook

  • Do you use an e-reader?? I haven't taken that step yet but have been considering it - which ones do you all like and why?

I had an audio book in one day years ago, pretty much when I first started listening in the car, and this one had sound effects and it scared the beegeebers outta me when a "bomb" went of bec I totally wasn't expecting it - almost drove off the road.

  • I should have said I don't typically LOT up HC books which I guess was more your question 🙂

  • June I do sell a lot of HC non fiction (horses, guns, fly fishing, archery type subjects) but not too many HC fiction. The Flowers in the Attic series in HC I picked up last year at a sale just bec I sell the PBs VERY frequently and I was surprised to see the HCs sell in the 40+/- range. If I can't fill in a missing title for a series in PB, I will fill in w HC. Personally when I read I prefer HC only bec I read on my lunch break at work and it is just easier to read while eating at my desk but I rarely resell what I read - I try to turn them in at my local used book store.

Next time you have a bunch in a series just for the heck of it check the "solds" for how much the series goes for when complete. Might be worth filling in the missing titles as people seem to pay for us doing that legwork for them LOL. Wikipedia usually has most authors and their series listed

I just started back reading and listening to Dick (and Felix) Francis books! OMG I love listening to the audios (I have a very long commute so read tons in the car)...so much fun hearing that limey accent LOL reminds me of my Dad. It's good because he has a very long list of books so I won't run out of his for a long time. Hate it when I read every one in a series/author I like...well you guys know that feeling

  • There's a lot less clutter your way June!!! LOL My area, heck my whole house, is cluttered with books and boxes of books to list. You sure have a lot of books listed!!

I usually check solds on the series and if it seems worth it to me, I fill in missing books from half.com usually. For what I get for complete series, in most cases it is well worth it IMO. When I have a lot of dupes and need to clear out some I just lot by author or genre and a low price to get rid of them

Despite having literally boxes of books to sell, I still can't pass up a book sale so I doubt my clutter will ever go away. It's that thrill of the hunt mentality LOL. This past Sat I hesitated going to one sale as in the past I rarely got anything there but this time I scored big w a set of Flowers in the Attic in HC, lots of Lee Child, about 17 Terry Pratchett Discworld and a ton of older Heinlein...all for $10.00...as you all know so well, you just never know

Glad you got inspired to list again >b>Jane....sometimes it is tough when you get away from it for a bit but a sale or two should keep the spark alive 🙂

  • I have a lot of luck selling VC Andrews but best by the series. Most of hers are either 5, 3 or 2 to a series. If you see the complete hardcover Flowers in the Attic series, grab them!

Also Brian Jacques REDWALL is a good seller. I used to just lot them up but have started selling the Redwall series complete (22 books I think)

My Lee Child audios sell almost immediately...sell them after I am done listening. Just recently started collecting his books to sell as a complete series - Also Vince Flynn series altho those can take awhile to sell

  • Congrats to the little equestrian, Jane!! Nice job! Something neat to keep in mind since she will probably keep accumulating those nifty ribbons - check out EquiRibbon on Facebook - (I htink that's the name - I am at work and can't double check) but Jenny makes really neat stuff using your ribbons - pillows, stuffed animals, wall hangings...that's for when you get to the point that you run out of wall space LOL. I saw Snowman - it was really good - from tears to laughter - it had it all!

  • Very sorry for your tragic loss, Beth

  • Yeah, Jane, it would be just a shame if Snowman didn't sell and you had to keep it LOL....seriously good luck tho!!

  • Jane - did Paul Brown illustrate your Blue Mares? Yippee!

  • I have cut way back on garage sales, too. I have set craigslist to email me if anything pops with the word horse/tack/saddles etc but other than that I don't go out of my way anymore. And the book sales are really annoying with so many people zapping bar codes! I try to hit our local flea market a few times a year - it is a great flea and you never know what you'll find there. Last trip I bought a vintage western saddle which is really nice. The guy knew nothing about saddles but said he got it off a wife that was ticked off at her husband and she was getting rid of his stuff LOL. Nicely made and tooled - hopefully once I get it listed others will agree 🙂

  • Super happy for you Jane!!!! Isn't that just the best feeling! What other authors did you score? Amazing you scooped them up within minutes of someone else!

Seems to me like the prices on Snowman have come down over the years but maybe the movie will help make the 1st Editions more valuable again! It will be interesting to watch that! If you list one of your copes, let us know so we can watch 🙂

    I am smiling with you...

This should take you to the list of theaters for the Snowman release 9-30 - I am hoping it will come somewhere in my vicinity but if not I will do what you did 🙂

I don;t post much but just wanted to say I enjoy the pix of your DGD and her pony - nothing like a little girl and her horse!!

  • mnewville and Beth - reminds me of the old Frasier episode where the Dad receives $20.00 too much from an ATM withdrawal and Daphney guilts him into "trying" to return the excess money - after several attemps on an automated machine they go down there and they keep giving him even more money back thinking the error was in not giving him enough money.... and after several more attempts he somehow ends up with the bank offering him 10K (or some such crazy amount) to forget all their mistakes and to not take away his business etc...it ends w Daphney asking to open an acct

Thanks for mentioning that ebay glitch June

Weird that those folding chairs sell so well.....I was tempted at a tag sale this past w/e but I just didn't want to deal with boxing it up!! I have enough trouble finding boxes for the western saddles I sell but with a couple of exceptions try to stick w the kids saddles which sell well and are much smaller!

Hay Mystery - are you lucky enough to have an airing of Snowman near you this month? Our closest is on the other side of the state so will wait until it, hopefully, plays closer!

  • Thanks, Beth - I hadn't looked closely enough at that listing....now I get it 🙂

  • Beth In your experience, have you found it best NOT to have your fixed price listings as Immediate Payment only? (I only looked at the Towle listing and saw the 48 hour payment so maybe you vary your listings...)

  • Beth Congrats on finding both Snowmans recently - that Palazzo book that sold for 149.99 (make an offer) was my copy - I was selling it for a friend and she accepted $100.00 offer. When I listed my copy there had been only one sold copy and it was a Make an Offer - I emailed her at the time and asked if she'd share what she'd sold it for and she said 100.00. (I think hers was listed at 300.00 make an offer so it was real confusing to attempt to price it) So there's a ballpark for you. Will keep an eye on yours - good luck!

  • Wow, that really is remarkable - lots of very hard work went into 20,000 in FB!! Nice round numbers LOL - Congratulations!

  • Jane - well, apparently so LOL - pages of sold wine corks! Who the heck knew!? So mad at myself for not checking on the printer cartridges sooner - I have tossed so many.

Does wellington still pop in from time to time? Is she doing OK?

  • I haven't done it in years but I just looked through Beth's SOLDS and I am absolutely amazed! I learn something every single time I look at your listings! Who knew empty printer cartridges had a value (since Staples stopped taking mine)?! LOL

Now if my memory could keep up with everything....that is my downfall

  • Cool - thanks for that site Sandy! I'm a Long Islander myself but I think we may have discussed this in the past - used to love to go to for souvlaki on the beach at Bayville back in the day

  • They were talking about releasing the movie back in 2015 but I think the Sept 2016 date is pretty firm. I see someone else has written another book "Harry and Snowman" (Hapka).

Not sure if I am remembering correctly but I think the prices on Snowman have dropped over the years so it will be interesting to see if the movie drives them back up again - Good luck with your copy, Beth! Hope it does well for you. There is a FB page for Snowman and Harry if you want to keep an eye on the movie release

  • I see you guys were talking about Snowman....my friend has several copies signed by Harry. She is hoarding them LOL - So I had been saving my copy to list when the movie came out but I finally listed it and it sold several months back, Now I see Harry and Snowman movie will be out in September - finally!! Can't wait to see it!

Mystery Were you aware of a book called Diving Horse by Patsy Gray/Grey? Holy smokes I got $125.00 for that one! What a total shock when I looked it up. Seems like most of her horse books get good money.

  • Wow what a rude awakening to the new fees - no more 5 Cent fixed price for books!! Going to have to rethink a lot of my listings now!

  • Gail

You might try pricing an inexpensive case ....of course unless you prefer to just visit :)....that makes more sense LOL

  • Gail - Do the rods have hard cases? How long are they? Tons easier if you have a case - I taped 2 of the Priority "tube" boxes together but that was for a 3 piece so it was shorter - if you have a 2 piece it will be pretty pricey because of the upcharge for the length In the past I ahve shipped them without a case....I wrapped them in a lot of bubblewrap....I work at a commercial printer so I take home cardboard that some of the larger stock comes in and save it to make these crazy sized boxes when I don't mail priority. You might also want to check how much to have one of those shipping places wrap it for you. I hate selling these but sometimes I can't help myself 🙂

  • Love palominos diane ever since Roy Rogers and Trigger.

My neighbor breeds (or used to at least) minis (miniature horses) and she is always excited to see what colors get thrown. She's had appys appear after several generations of non-appys etc - she said she gave us years ago trying to predict years ago...the flashier the better for the show ring 🙂

mystery my vote on that movie list (of the ones I've seen at least) is the 2 Snowy River movies! LOVE those and can rewatch time after time.

One movie not on that list that I liked was The Long Shot with Marsha Mason - but I think I am partial to that one because the horse was blind and I was owned by a completely blind horse for many many years....I still have his buddy, a QH mare, who is mostly blind but she still has limited vision.

I have to chk out some of those other movies....thx for posting the list

  • Awesome Mystery - If you haven't read and want to borrow the Eliz Letts "Eighty Dollar Champion" LMK and I can send it to you to read. I still haven't listed mine - our local used bookstore just ended their yearly 10 day sale so been busy the past couple of w/e's....I look fwd to this sale every year and it's about the only good thing about winter. OMG and more snow in the forecast and single digits temps this w/e! Enough already

  • Thx mystery...That is a coincidence! Yes, it's pretty rare altho I think yrs and yrs ago I found a copy. I may give it a go but will wait until next w/e I guess. Yes, there is a DJ under mylar - the blue one, not the red one.

We had about 2 ft of snow last week and now we have this icky back and forth snow/sleet/freezing rain thing going on so didn't go to work again today, Hate using so much vac time this early in the year!! OH well - with a 75 mile commute I don't take any chances to make my commute even longer than usual...so back to ebaying 🙂

Bookbase Wow on all those Amazon sales!!! I don;t think I've had a sale there in over a year! My fault - I don;t take the time to dbl list anymore

Patsy - so glad you are home and starting to feel a little better - incredibly scarey! Like you 6 more weeks image 🙂

Mystery - May I ask your opinion - or anyone else's for that matter....came across a 4th printing of the book Snowman this weekend - would you wait to list it until later this year when a documentary is scheduled to be released about Harry and Snowman or let it fly now - it's not like it's a first ed and I could sure use the money it might bring in if it sold. Looks like 3 other listings are live now for this little gem 🙂 OMG I was so happy to find this for 5.00 less 30% sale price 🙂

Mystery - I picked up another little ceramic draft horse this w.e which reminded me of that one you and Laurie helped me with a few years back. If it's OK, when ever I get around to it, could I show you a pic before I list it? lol just in case....

  • Diane - I had never seen this book before. Same sale also had another Paul Brown which sold overnight plus a Black Beauty illustrated by Lionel Edwards. Home owner was an artist himself so he appreciated good equine artists and I was so happy to find all these neat books!

  • Just broke the cardinal rule of ebaying by putting a BIN on something I didn't know enough about. I did the research, (I thght) and because the box was in such horrible shape I decided to price an Original Dungeons and Dragon box set at 150 w a BIN of 225.00 and it sold within an hour. I've had TWO people email me so far to tell me I messed up LOL - apparently the value wasn't just in the box and 3 booklets in the box - the value was in the loose papers inside the box and that I didn't see in any of my research. If the auction had run its course it would have closed at about 1000.00 in this one guy's opinion at least... But I'm happy with my $3.00 purchase 🙂

  • If anyone can use some doggie thryoid pills (.6) I have quite a few left and would gladly send them to you....our senior girl passed and have no use for them now.

  • paula - I've read putting a sign both in your car and on your property that you are missing your cat might help get the word around...also, and not everyone believes this but if you do, keep "thinking" Butchie come home :). There was a yahoo group (maybe still is, not sure) for animal communicators and about 10 yrs ago there was a woman posting there that was AMAZING finding lost animals - one of our cats went missing and this person described to a "T" our neighborhood, buildings and even described our neighbor perfectly. She "connected" to our kitty and a cpl hours later she showed up???!!! I don't know...coincidence? But keep thinking positive thghts to help Butchie come home - can't hurt

  • Has anyone tried Luminosity?? Luminosity.com - they eventually want you to buy in but you answer some initial questions about your memory, multi-tasking, etc etc and then based on what you feel you want to work on, they email daily games/tasks to do. It's fun! I'm not explaining well but they have games that really test your memory and speed etc.

  • In case anyone else uses Regional boxes, supposedly it is only a temporary technical issue w the USPS site.

  • Morning! Nice and fresh here in CT - fall-like! Had to ship something last night not ebay related and ClicknShip is no longer offering Regional rates! I don't have any ebay labels to print right now to see if they are available thru the PitneyBowes system but that is very bad news to me! We use regional priority for our little home based business. I emailed USPS and they answered me that Regional is not available "at this time". Anyone heard any specifics on this?

  • No, June, I just sell them and I had never heard of paranormal romance until about 2 months ago a local ppbk seller at a flea market was closing up and selling out so I've been going to her sunday bag sales and when I saw a bunch of titles by the same author I'd take them and look them up when I got home. I noticed the spine said paranormal romance so did a search on that and wow was I shocked - it was a new genre to me for sure! I am familiar w a couple of those names but some are new to me. I don't bother w most current fiction at any price but fantasy, vampires, VC Andrews, Anne Rice, some westerns and SF do seem to sell well for me. I was about to give up ebaying last year and then I stumbled onto some VC Andrews at a very good price and when I saw how her stuff sold (in series) I got the ebay bug back again! sigh

  • Interesting, June>....Hay, I'll take whatever I can get but for me 9 sales in one day is unheard of! I am selling mostly fantasy and paranormal romance right now with some westerns and SF thrown into the pix but the fantasy ppbks are doing well for me. And if you can sell in a complete series, all the better! Just my two cents 🙂

  • Has anyone else had a flurry of sales on single day on eBay??? I am NOT a high volume seller by any means but for whatever reason I had 9 sales (fixed price listings) within about 24 hrs totally unrelated to each other! LOL - not complaining but find it so odd! Unless people are getting their summer reading books I have no other explanation....I usually go 9 days with NO sales lol

  • mystery How awesome she picked some winners - I may call her for advice one day 🙂 I always found the women who came back to riding in adulthood after riding as a kid were always VERY cautious and the "fast" wasn't as important any more. But as they gained their confidence back it was fun watching them. Horses also keep young girls on the "straight and narrow" path in life in most cases. The responsibility for taking care of the horse and just the idea of being able to control a 1000# animal gives them such confidence in themselves. Always feel it is well worth the money to have the kids get interested i horses

  • mystery Ohhhh, little girls and horses!!! They go hand in hand for sure! Will keep an eye out for more pix of her riding and smiling 🙂

  • Diane - if you have a list of Dick Francis you are looking for, LMK as I have some of his titles

  • Patsy - Have you started using the slide converter yet? Tedious? You got me to thinking I should probably do the same thing - have TONS of my parents old slides in the basement...altho seems like a good winter project (I can always find a reason to procrastinate 🙂 )

Does Laurie/Wellington still pop in here?

And in case anyone else has my issues with the multiple purchases and refunding and not being able to generate a combined ebay invoice - when you do the shipping, the customs part isn't going to list all the books 🙁 argh!!!

Lots of showers on and off here in CT

  • It's strange Mystery - but in the drop down list for the ones I refunded my only payment option is Mark as Payment Received - there is no Mark Unpaid for these particular sales. I had done that in the past so I know what you are talking about but for whatever reason, I can't use w these particular sales

I saw that about the heel bulb injury. Who knows! Just glad no one broke down!

  • Bob - I was trying to avoid as many 30 cent per transaction fees as I could (14 diff sales to the same person) - not talking a lot of dollars per sale so trying to just cut back on my fees a bit. I ended up sending an invoice thru PP so we'll see what my next fiasco is with this. but I am very grateful to be rid of these 14 books so not complaining too much :). Thx again!

  • The problem is when I try to do the combined invoice, the ones I refunded aren't showing up yet so can't do a complete combined thru ebay - at least not yet. Maybe Jude51's way is the way to go. If eBay hasn't synced up w PP by tonight to allow me to do a complete combined invoice, I will just do Jude's way. Thanks!

  • I don't typically follow racing but got caught up in the fever this year. Disappointing but glad there were no injuries.

Quick question - I refunded several Paypal pay'ts to the same person so I could reinvoice all in one w combined shipping. Some were refunded Sat AM and some Sat PM but ebay still isn't allowing me to invoice all the sales. In paypal it shows "completed" and in ebay acknowledges the refund by the payment icon thingie but it still won't allow me to invoice. Did I miss a step or do I just have to wait until they sync up? TIA

    Happy cinco de Mayo

  • ohhhhh, appaloosa 🙂 love it and I love spots. Lost my 37yo appy last October...he was my heart horse and my first horse. We'd been together 22 years and I still shed many tears for him. Lost 2 other appys last year - one was planned due to severe arthritis but one was a real shocker. Hard year!! But still have my two little mini donks who always put a huge smile on my face! They are so cute.

How's the horse racing world treating you Mystery

  • Also saying prayers for that young man! So while my book sales aren't fantastic, it does seem the fantasy/SF/VC Andrews/Anne Rice readers are still buying....especially in complete series it seems to me at least. Sooo, been trying to collect some series to see how they do. Brings to mind DesertPrincess - has she been around at all? (I am only a very sporadic reader here) I was also thinking of here back when I was having my pkg tracking issues and remembered her theory of self insuring due to her high volume of sales of lesser valued books and tracking costing at that time I think 35 cents or so and that all made sense to me - at that time 🙂 now thx to you all I am using ebay shipping

  • Another question - not sure if eBay took down my link to other similar listings or if it's just one of those things but when I have several books of the same author/genre I often include a link to the others within the listing to make it easier to combine (thank you Satnrose a billion yrs ago 🙂 ) I see the link is still live in my Gor listings but the link is broken in my VC Andrews listings. I was thinking eBay didn't allow links but didn't think that applied to links within eBay. anyway, not sure if eBay did something or there is some other reason - link now goes to an ebay page saying Page NOt Found

  • Did my first shipping labels thru eBay tonight when I got home - easy peasey - thanks for recommending that! Guess I've had my head buried or something all these years. I think the postage was the same as the PO for media but huge savings on the tracking....will compare ebay priority to click and ship next time I have a priority. So eBay sends the buyer an email w the tracking number??? I don't have to do anything else? Thx again!

  • So it's been years since I looked into this but never realized you could do media mail anywhere but the PO....so will chk out ebay shipping for sure! We use click-n-ship for Priority and of course tracking is free there. I asked the guy at the PO once if they would track a package using the # they put on the pkg even when you don't pay for tracking and he didn't really give me a definite answer. Thank you again for your thghts!!

  • ebay question 🙂 Just wondering if anyone selling low end books buys tracking for the media mail packages. I don't unless the book has some value but all of a sudden several buyers are asking me for tracking. Did I maybe miss some new eBay rule requiring sellers to spend even more $ out of our meager profits to keep the buyers happy? One got very indignant (finally rec'd her books but even in her F.B says I LIKE TRACKING) and now today someone needs to be able to ID the pkg because some shipping company is forwarding it on to Venezuela but I had no way of knowing that - nothing in his PP email....sorry -just letting off steam I guess

  • Morning! I am trying to help a daughter of a friend w her eBaying and Paypal seems to be putting a freeze on her account for 30 days - she is asking me if this is a temporary thing, if it's because her f/b is only about 25 or so or if this is a new regulation w Paypal. I don't know how to answer her and I don't see anything on Paypal. Her Mom tells me she called Paypal but I'm not clear whether they answered her or not....does anyone know what the story is? TIA

  • Morning - saw a tease on my AOL about a woman named Beth who bought a $10 painting at GoodWill and it turned out to be worth a small fortune....was hoping it was "our" Beth but sadly she's from NC. I believe she netted 27,000 at a southeby's auction for the painting and didn't know when she bought it. she wanted to reuse the canvas for her own work but luckily she googled the artist first 🙂

  • Haven't been around this BB much - just wondering if Wellington is doing OK - is anyone in touch with her? I tried emailing her but hope she is just busy and can't respond right away.
