• Haven't been here in ages but wantto wish my BB friends a belated happy new year & hope all are in good health.

Made a discovery I want to pass on - When I relist using my kindle they go through even if the picture is smaller than the now required 500 pixels. Don't tell eBay!

  • Don't know how I got to be a friend on Facebook of Michael Gorham (World of Antiques) but I occasionally get an email that he has posted a message. I rarely check them out but for some reason I checked out the last email I received.

Ginger (his wife) has ben diagnosed with breast cancer & is going to start chemo. Having been there myself I really feel for her & only hope that he supports her through the coming bad times & doesn't make it about how hard it is on him. He is a terribly self-centered person imho. Iris

  • mysteryhorse re your post @ 10:20 on 4/19 - Contact me if you want to do a bunch of relists. I started relisting today. I did have your email addy from ages ago but can't find it now. Iris

  • Rarely do I post but I read the board fairly regularly. Just want to mention that yesterday on aol they had a piece about autistic genuises. (sp?) Among those mentioned was a book boarders grandson - Jacob. Don't remember who the bb'r was but perhaps someone here does. Boy is now 14 years old & is working on Einsteins theory of relativity. He was featured on a tv program a few years back. Iris

  • Jim Have been reading your posts about your Kindle with interest. I have the inexpensive little one & I love it. Have over 200 books stored on there now. Most of them are freebies so there's only a couple I can recommend. The freebies are good when sitting at the pool working on a suntan.

Also have a Nook tablet which is loaded with freebies also. I like the Kindle better. Very often a book will download incorrectly on the Nook. Pages will run in loops, never getting to the next one unless you specify a page number ie; will go from pg 20 to pg 24 & then back to pg 20. Has never happened with the Kindle.

I did download on the Nook for $2.99 (I think) 25 great classics. I've been re-reading some Austin, Dickens, Wells & such. A great buy. I think this was their 2nd series of classics.

  • Sam - Thanks for the inquiry. I'm doing fine, Am sorry I mentioned my cancer again, I only mentioned it to Maureen at one point as we were taking the same medications & suffering the same reactions. In 2006 I was making & selling newsboys caps on eBay with matching scarves as a way to cover up hair loss due to chemo. I sent Maureen one or two as a gift & Kacey bought a few from me,never mentioning she was ill. If I knew she had cancer I would have sent them as gifts.

    Glad to see Desertprincess again.

Has anyone hear ever heard of something called "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome"? My 13 year old granddaughter was recently diagnosed with it after 6 months of running to dozens of MDs she was finally diagnosed as having this syndrome. Her medication hasn't helped much, my granddaughter is on the waiting list to enter a "CRPS" pain clinic in PA Childres Hospital. The wait is 3 to 4 months. They live in DE & the only other clinic like that is in Cleveland, the wait is also about the same. I don't think there is even one in NY.

If left untreated nerve damage can cause muscles to atrophy. My daughter is presently taking her to Yoga, Physical Therapy, Swimming (she was on a swim team in school), & acupuncture. She also goes to a Chiropractor & uses an eliptical exercise machine daily. They are doing everything possible to keep her arms moving. Pain meds make her loopy in any strength so they cannot be tolerated. The poor child is in constant pain.

I'm mentioning this condition hoping someone hear knows of this condition & can suggest perhaps another avenue my daughter might try. She is looking into Chinese herbs right now. Of course she will not do anything without consulting the MD at Nemours Dupont Hosp. in charge of the childs case.

  • So deeply sorry to hear of Maureens passing. Her passing gives me much to think about:why her? We were both diagnosed at about the same time, suffered the same secondary conditions from chemo & yet why her & not me? She didn't deserve such an insidious disease, no one does. Glad her battle is done & she is finally at peace.

  • I also had a crush on James Mason when I was a teenager. Think the picture that made me go gaga over him was "The Seventh Veil". Think an English actress named Ann Todd was in it. Story was about a concert pianist & Mason played a Svengali type composer or teacher. Really don't remember. Hope the title is correct.

  • Going to relist a couple of items & then read a book on-line lent to me by a friend. She has a Kindle Fire & I recently bought a Nook tablet. We're lending books to each other now. Read 10 books in the past few days. Eyes are getting a little bit tired at this point. Night all.

  • Paula - You filled in the blanks in my memory about the picture. That one is my favorite all time tear jerker. Second favorite is "To Each His Own". Both are 2 hanky weepers.

  • Hi to all, its been a long time since I've posted here. Hope all are well.

Peeked in & saw some mention of "Waterloo Bridge". That pix is one of my all time favorite tear jerkers. I loved Robert Tatlor, he was especially handsome in that picture.

Short synopsis - Vivian Leigh played a ballerina who fell in love with soldier Robert Taylor. He was from a rich family who disapproved of her. (Oh boy, plot of a million movies) He went off to war, she could not stay with the ballet troop for some reason or other (don't remember why) she became a street walker to support herself. He returned from war looking for her, & she jumped off the Waterloo Bridge (where they originally met.)

Corny in this day & age but very well done. She was a very beautiful woman. Iris

  • Going off to watch a little TV & relax. Night all.

  • Thanks Beth. How sad, she was still quite young. Lately everybody is younger than I am at my advanced age of 76.

They say age is only a number - well - tell that to my creaky bones.

  • I don't post or even read the BB much anymore but must state my concern about Maureen & ask a question about Kacey.
Maureen, aren't there any local organizations that can help you with some daily chores? Don't know if you remember but I was diagnosed with cancer just before you were. I developed many of the same problems as you had from the surgery, chemo & radiation. I developed a DVT,& hemolyatic anemia, breathing problems, etc. Still suffer the residuals of them. I don't know how you manage on your own, I don't think I would have survived if it were not for my husband. You are my hero but please try to get some help.
I only have good memories of Kacey. At the time I was going through chemo I started selling OOAK newsboy caps with matching head scarves to help hide chemo hair loss. Kacey bought 3 or 4 from me saying she loved to wear hats to protect her hair from the sun. Don't know if that was the truth or not. When did she die & what was the cause?

  • Thanks eth. Thats the exact poem I was looking for.

Oh perhaps mysteryhorse can help you with the Breyers. I believe she has sold a few in the past.

  • Beth I guess I'll have to wait for PP to make their decision - they have until sometime in Oct.
Does anyone watch Gerrison Keillors PBS poetry program? Today he was reading a funny but very accurate poem about a Jewish wedding & todays modern family guests such as his dead fathers 3rd wife & all the step-relatives. I caught it in the middle so have no idea who wrote it. It struck a chord, I've been searching the net for a copy but to no avail. Anyone know the piece I'm talking about, & where I can get a copy?

  • Beth, Just checked in to see your response.
it doesn't sound very encouraging. I wonder is "the buyer is always is right" the only criteria they base their decisions on? How legal is that when there is proof they are lying?

  • Beth why do you believe PayPal will decide in buyers' favor?

  • Need some advice about problem with buyer who put claim in with PayPal. She returned one of four sterling Franklin Mint plates bought from me, claiming she had it tested & it was not sterling. Plate she returned was not the one I sent her - she pulled a "switcheroo". Returned plate was scratched, the one I sent was perfect & it had other signs of being a replacement. PayPal has the info from me, including test I had done today on plate at a local jewelry store which showed plate to be sterling. Tested on the underside, a little of the non-tarnish coating the Franklin Mint uses was removed. She could not have tested plate as there was no coating removed when I received it from her. She asked me not to send plate back to her this Monday, but wait for PayPal to make their determination. I had emailed saying plate would be returned on Monday if my test showed it was sterling. Thats my question -Should I mail the plate back on Monday? I don't want to keep both the plate & her payment. Iris

  • Just read the instructions, how simple it is to make changes when one reads how to do it. Next I'll read up about making my avatar a normal size. But thats a job for another day, have to finish a few listings for the penny sale.

  • Just popped in to say hello. Can't figure out how to get my eBay ID (ginger15) to show next to my real name (Iris). Will work on it this week. Love the access to the other boards. I was always asking for identifying help from those 3 boards, also the jewelry board.

  • Just joined here. Spent lots of time in the BB rafters grinding my teeth & sitting on my hands as there is something about braggarts that rub me the wrong way- sort of like chalk on a blackboard. Hope this board becomes as chrming as the original one from way back when.

Sorry to hear of Furtima's loss. I read her Mom's obit & & discovered we shared the same birth date (not year). Also, most interesting there is a "Friedman" branch in my family. Not mid-western to my knowledge but one never knows. Stay well all. Wish Lara would come back. Iris
