• Oops, meant " chilly but not too cold"

  • Hi all- my words are coming out bold in the message box, sorry if it shows that way here, can't find a way to change it. Been so busy getting ready for 2 grand babies . One is a toddler so there's some tweaking of our baby-proofing for that age. A nice day here, chilly but a bit cold. .

  • Good evening, everyone. The day flew by as I enjoyed the weather, refilled the bird feeders, and culled some books. Deer seem to have chomped on some of my perennials during the winter and will have to see if they recover but but many plants are rebounding. Not the Dogwoods I planted, however. Oh well, was a terrible winter.

  • Coming in late...happy belated birthday Liz. Quick question: anyone know a good archival quality glue or do you simply list older books "as is"? Usually I leave them alone but wondering....

  • Barbara- I thought tracking was now free if sent through USPS. Even if you don't pay for it, they put a tracking label and the post office can look it up for you. But I use an online service which automatically puts tracking numbers in each individual package. I always use tracking numbers because they help answer buyers' questions and also give me helpful info. I am not saying you should do this, simply offering my take. I can say, however, that in one case (out of many perfectly fine transactions) the postal service mistakenly routed a package hundreds of miles from its destination. It took weeks to arrive! Luckily, the tracking number allowed the the buyer to see when the package left my home and where it landed along the way to her house. I print my paid shipping labels directly from USPS online or another shipping service (I alternate).. Fees are tax deductible. In my view, tracking numbers are a bit like having extra insurance against negative feedback.

  • P,.S. We have an Internet ready tv and can still use cable and also access Netflix directly. We purchased it when our very old television's screen became too difficult for my spouse to easily watch. The words in subtitled movies were impossible to read. It was among the least expensive options-on sale. So we idiotically went for,all those lovely bells and whistles. But we never take advantage of all the options, only a select few . I'd rather read.

  • Carol- I can give a bit of feedback about the Amazon Fire tv as well as a personal opinion but here's an intriguing tidbit:

The Washington Post, owned by Amazon chief executive Jeffrey Bezos, gave The Fire a less than rave review. Just do a search for the title Amazon Fire Tv Falls Behind the Competition. You can easily find the Post's review. Good to know the reviewers aren't censored because they don't pull any punches.

The Fire is meant to be a competitor with Roku, Apple TV, and Google's Chromecast but it doesn't offer anything they don't and is aimed at funneling users towards Amazon movies and content. And sometimes you get LESS content than with other set top boxes.

The Fire is at the high end of the price range for such devices and I think it comes with significant limitations but would love to know how others feel. The Fire connects your television directly to the Internet.

  • Anyone here use Ebay mobile ? Just curious. I sold one book that way buyer seemed fine with the description and photos.

  • 45 degrees here in Indiana and may take a walk. Sold 2 books in the last week, just dipping back in again to selling, but neither was sold on Ebay ( although one sale came from an Ebay contact who passed along a name, not so I could solicit a sale but as a possible source of info on my book find. That was a lucky $350 sale, a stroke of fortune. Another was a genealogy book which had been listd at Amazon awhile. The buyer got a discount but it still made an okay profit.

  • Hi, Diane. Won't hog chat tonight. Good to see everyone. Just visited the In Memoriam page to pause and remember members who are no longer with us ( although still here for me in spirit).

  • Patsy-we gave Vizio as well but it is linked to our wireless and that is linked to our combo Internet wireless package, includes computer Internet . We want to ditch cable but haven't found a package with decent speed if we do. In our area, " preferred" cable customers get higher broadband speeds.

  • And by the way...good morning. Just past midnite here.

  • Hi all.. Been a long time. Just jumping in here. Was on the old book chat board in the late 90s on Ebay. Took time off to care for a dying parent and an older adoptee. Now downsizing, maybe, and getting back in touch with whoever still resides at this board. The Ebay one , listed as Booksellers, seems less active. Anyway...hi again. Long time no see.

  • Thanks for the update, Kay. So sorry to,hear that the book board is going away, the original. But EBay has changed so much from what I can tell. I ha e missed everyone. I hope those in Pa. stay safe as possible . Good to see both familiar and new names here.

  • Hi everyone. Whew! Glad I found this board and just heard...or did not remember that the EBay book chat is closing? When? Why ( if it is not too prying to ask) . Anyway, will try to pop in more often but so busy trying to care for 2 homes now, mine and my mother's
home. Will have to decide to sell or keep but can not do that yet.

What major updates have I missed?
