• Well, here we are looking forward to fall and winter here at the "Home". It is great to not have to worry about the mountain of leaves we used to have, and we wont have to deal with sleet and snow. We celebrate all of the holidays and birthdays or not. Then if we don't want to, we just stay in our rooms. The decoration are great. Many are made in the Craft class and are sometimes funny but quite tasteful. The friends are now many and we know most every one's first name. Thankfully, no one is overly friendly though. We really waited too long to make this move but now that we are here, we are very happy. If you are at all interested, I will keep you posted for life among the elderly is much different than I expected.

  • Good Morning! It is a beautiful day here at Crestwood. We are fully situated and very happy here in our new home. It doesn't seem new any more since we moved in 5 months ago. We are still moving things around from old house to here to storage place. We are trying to get the old house ready to sell. Wow, what a job.

I have been reading along here all the time and think that I have not missed too much. I haven't written much be cause I have lost some use of my left hand and some times have to resort to my old hunt and peck method. It is good to watch and find how you are all doing.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MYSTERYHORSE

  • Amen Diane. May peace be with you for she is resting and, so must you. Love, Mim.

  • With love, hugs, and prayers, you are in my thoughts so often. Hang in there friend.

  • Gee Diane, sorry to read that you have gotten bad news. I hope that things improve soon. Huggs!

  • It's been a beautiful day. The second day of moving big things into the apartment. It looked wonderful to start with. New carpeting, fresh paint everywhere and waxed floors. What a great way to start a new life. Bed made, most of the clothes there. Lots of sorting later. The Salvation Army pile keeps growing.

Tomorrow morning starts with breakfast at 7:00 a.m. DH says I will probably crawl back in bed after all this activity. Nice to know that I have a nice clean one to go to.

Hope everyone's day was as great as ours was. We have so much to thank the good lord for.

    Night all!

  • April 2, 2013, will be our first full day in our new apartment. Then, we will start moving things that we can't live without. This includes 2 housecats named Jasper and Jim. It is in a beautiful location looking into a small tree stand with an equally small creek. Russell is teasing that anything that small has to be a crick or a draining ditch. Non the less, from our door, it looks like a small creek, complete with squirrels and birds.

  • Like Helen. She lives only 2/3 miles from me and, there is 8 to 10 inches of snow and it is still coming down but not so intensely. Got the ramp and the car cleaned off and the street is fast melting away so we could get out to the main drag.

DH cleaned of the birds feeder and they will be here as soon as he puts feed out. He opens the porch door and they appear.

Carol, so sorry that you are having the same problems at the hospital, especially after waiting so patiently getting ready again. I that happened to me last year after preparing for a colonoscopy twice. Hate drinking that stuff.

  • BTW, I have enjoyed so much reading the happenings here on "OUR" board. and don't think I have missed a word.

Particularly loved the pictures and Bob's cartoons.

  • Before I forget it Happy BIRTHDAY Diane.

I am going to try to sell some on eBay too, we'll see though for I pulled a muscle (ham string?) in my leg in a freak accident and have been hobbling around ever since then. It was awful and the pain was unbelievable. I screamed and fainted when it happened. The bruising is unbelievable. The kids are having a big time teasing DH that he did it when I didn't move fast enough. He has been his usual humble and wonderful aide tome through it all.

  • Been snowing here for several hours. DH says about 2". He goes out and sweeps the small porch and the ramp to the driveway. It is not terribly cold either.

We had such a nice week, DD and her DH came to visit from Michigan and help us get things ready for the big move to the HOME, as they jokingly call the Assisted Living where we are moving on April 2. Lots of things to give away, sell and or strore. We are sorting through 62 years of marriage and moving from an 11 rooms of house to a lovely apartment of Living room, Bedroom, kitchenette. Lots of serious choices to make. We are moving on the 2nd to the Home and will keep coming back here until all of the loose ends are taken care of. Our goal is about 6 months until we put this house for sale. The kids are helping us or we would have to call in the pros. We will be having movers take care of our living room and bedroom furniture moving.
We will have a great place in a large bathroom for a litter box, out of sight, for our two cats. That part was important too.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAULA AND MANY, MANY MORE.

  • I am wondering if any of you are having problems with your support hose? I am and it is in keeping them from rolling up and cutting off circulation to the rest of my legs. Well, I think I have a solution. At least for the long hose. Before I was old enough to wear a girdle, I wore a thing called a garder belt. It worked. So I looked it up on ebay and sure enough, there they were.... really quite fancy but alright. Kinda costly but I bought them anyway. They just came so I will let you know how they do. My Doctor keeps harping that I use them as my legs swell so badly, and yes I am taking all of my med as I should.

  • Hi Helen. They can't keep a good woman down, can they? I see that you are still posting so that means that you are home and in front of your computer. You go girl!!!

It looks like you are better or still able to type so that is good news.
I can still read and sometimes even type so that is good news too. Along with the other things ailing me, "ailing" sure is a good word for it seems like I am either getting over or trying to get something all the time. I have trouble with the last 3 fingers on my left hand. They are either good, partly functional or won't work at all. Contrary things huh? Yeah, that just means that I have to carefully check everything before I can post anything. Could be worse? Well, no hands at all comes to mind. So if I am not posting at all, all that means is that I can't type but I am still reading. I am still going to sell, just slowly.

  • Goodnight! Snow, ice, freezing rain. We are all tucked in, ready for bed and both cats trying to keep their eyes open so they won't miss anything. They won't because, I am about to turn everything off. You all take care tomorrow morning for it is going to be slippery slickery. God bless.

  • Hi everyone. DH and I have been so sick it seems like forever. We had several bugs that have been going around. Either kept getting something new or never really got over the old. Anyway, we feel like we have been run over by a big Max truck. Been reading this board though, well most of the time. Helps to hear what others are doing and youse guys are my favorite others.

  • Well, went out yesterday and tonight for my Birthday celebration with the"kids". They 56, 61, 62, but for me they are still kids. We went to the Olive Garden, one of my favorites and the portions were so big I brought more than half of mine home. I will have to warm it in the oven as the microwave decided to die. Every thing is falling apart lately. We can't buy a new one because there is one in my new apartment. Went to Ponderosa as I had a gift certificate there. Again, the portions were so big that I brought enough home for another meal.

Thanks for the BD greetings, they were so appreciated. Thanks too Bob for the cartoons. I always welcome a good chuckle.

  • Hello all. I wish you a Wonderful and Happy New Year. I also want to thank you for your kind words from last year. It was a hard one but with lots of love too and certainly giving my dear Russell and me a chance to figure a plan to follow in 2013.
We have decided to make a change in our living conditions and will be looking for a move to an assisted living apartment. We will be selling our home and many things in it. We will be using eBay an auction and possibly a family yard sale. If any would be interested, I will try to tell you what, when and why. May be our experiences will help you in your future. Again, thank you all, with your friendship at the top of the list.

  • I want to thank you all for your prayers and concern for my DH. They are keeping him longer than we expected. Drs says it was not the Flu but some other bad bug. Their concern now is keeping his temperature down. Like he says, they aren't caring what it is called just to find him improving, and he is. He is eating now but is still weak.

  • JUNE, wonderful about your book sale, what a nice Christmas present.
Sorry about your door. Boy that must have been some storm.
DIANE, glad you are over the worst part. The rehab part is not a fun thing. It will get a little bit better every day.
STAMPHICK, Think we are all relieved you daughter is back on American soil. Bet you are too.
PATSY and BOB, too bad the weather has been a pain down there. Maybe it will be better by Christmas.
JIM, Will watch to see how your Christmas turns out, different than up here, I bet.

  • Has been a frantic month already. DH had a small stroke last week and couldn't remember where he was or what his car looked like. I have him back home now and he seems to be himself again. Drs say he is fine and he was thoroughly tested while in the hospital. If that wasn't enough, I was having dental problems too. 2 crowns broke off and a crown on a root canal came loose. Lord, I don't remember sinning that much. Preyed a bit and that helped a lot too.

  • December 7, l941.

A day that lives in Infamy!

    God bless America.

  • December 7,1941.

A day that lives in infamy! God bless America.

  • We will have Clover leaf dinner rolls with our Thanksgiving feast. Just think of all the good things you can make with stale white bread. Turkey broth dressing. Baked french toast. Croutons. An all time favorite is bread pudding. Also, that raisin bread, gone stale is good to use for the french toast and bread pudding too.

  • We only had white bread when I was a kid. We were really poor and I ate a lot of grape jelly sandwiches. Course, everyone else we knew were poor too. The economy was the pits in the 1930's. My mother died when I was 8 from mal nutrition and TB. Any kind of bread was good. war ended when I was 11 and it became another kind of world with a lot more variety in my diet. As I recall, Ice cream was my favorite food. High School, there was no hunger any more with folks we knew. Met my DH and after we married we ate lots of whole wheat items. Favorite then was Rye and favorite sandwich was grilled cheese made with raisin bread and kraft slices.

Today, I can only have 2 slices of any kind of bread or bakery items. I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Life gets curiouser than ever. Treat for Thanksgiving will be Persimmon Pudding, and I am a very rich lady. I have a wonderful dear husband of 61 years and a loving family of 1 son and 3 daughters. They provided us with 3 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. They all fell in love and married and the result is 3 great granddaughters 7 great grandsons. We have so much to be thankful for. Life is Good. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  • Janice, I am sorry for your loss of your tiger kitty Rascal. We have 2 tigers here, Jim and Jasper who look like they could have been his litter mates. Life is so lonely with out kitties and cats. A little sniff and a tear too.

  • All of those Hostess items are good frozen too. Kids call them Twinkie, Hoho, or Ding Dong Sickles or that wonderful baking bread aroma as you drive past the 30th and Shadeland corner here in Indy. What ever is this world coming to?

  • Hope you had a super happy Birthday Dan.

  • Morning Diane, with you all the way.

Good morning everyone. It is a beautiful sun shinny day. 41* and lots of leaves down every where.

  • Hahaha LIZ, I can relate that trip to the bathroom, which usually needs to be done quickly. Hard to do when a cat is glad to see you are awake and is weaving around your legs.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DILLION.

  • Strangest thing happened yesterday. We went to the Corral yesterday and when we came home, I couldn't find the kitten, Jim. We looked all over and since there is a way to get under the house to a crawl space which is way behind the furnace, we thought that was where he was. We had another cat that used to go down there until we fixed the door to the furnace room so it would stay closed better. Well, DH left it open for some reason so we wait, and waited for him to come back. DH looked all around and called out doors too in case someone might have let him out. Well, no kitty and I went to bed just knowing that I would never see him again. I admit, tears came and DH felt himself to blame. This morning was sad to wake up without him.
I was sitting here at my computer when I heard a bumping noise from my DH's desk which is back to back to mine. I thought at first it was Jasper, our older cat. I went around to investigate, opening drawers and when I got to the last one, there Jim was and mighty glad to see me.
The drawer was left open, he jumped in and by wiggling around and the drawer on a wheel base, he managed to close himself in. He didn't cry, that is the funny thing and we figured he had to have been in there about 14 hours. He was very hungry and thirsty. Crazy thing, huh?

  • We brought the last of the flowers in and will keep them in the garage until spring. Most of them will make it. We have a big bushel basket size Mum and it is starting to grow brown around the edges. We will put a tomato frame around it and lots of leaves too. It was so beautiful and I sure hate to see it die down. Everything else seems to have gotten through that drought really better than I expected. Nature has it's own way I learn all over again. I still have some Snapdragons, planted up against the house that are still blooming. Yea snaps.

  • Am trying so hard to get organized before the kids start pouring in for Thanksgiving. Dh has been watch for soft drinks on sale for a month now. I just never have enough energy to keep up with all of them so daughters take over and I go to bed for big rests. Then get up and get exhausted all over again. Such a great and happy time. So much to be thankful for

  • Hey folks just because one's hair is gray doesn't mean we always looked and acted like an old lady. Needed extra money while DH was going to night school, I worked at a bar and made sandwiches and drew beer to make some extra bucks. We visited a bar where a neighbor, friend sang and played the Pianner. He was quite good and such fun too. He was an artist and later painted portraits of DH and me. I'll have to post them one of these days.
    Hey, Jim, great picture.

  • Lots happening today. Don't like the sound of it all. Feel that our GS in Va will be safe, maybe with just lots of rain.

Beth, a big WOW to you on that feedback number. The thought of all that work you have done is awesome.

Mysteryhorse. Welcome home and big Cheers for your winning horse. How exciting.

Jim, sure love the looks of that desk closet. The pull out storage is great too. You have done a wonderful job.

Clementine. Haven't heard much from you lately, have you been on the road? Been watching your auctions though.

Diane, I have had both knees replaced. I am remembering that although there was pain post surgery, it was nothing like that I had before it. Looking back, I am most pleased with the results. All of your problems may force your sister to recover faster and to take care of herself. Anyway, prayers and healing thoughts sent your way.

Patsy, good luck to you and your FOL sale. I hope you do well again this time.

Sandy, will this weather affect your lovely cabin? Hope not.

Lludwig, always interesting to read your posts.

  • That is what I think I have here every once in a while, when all my younguns come home.. Looks like we have had a war. Maybe we need to call this place Fort Mims instead of Rubyville. Except, we are all having a great visit.

  • Diane, I don't see much with Angels anymore. I know that some people collect them. Our Community hospital has several cases of beautiful Angels that have been donated to that ward, I think it is the cancer part. Anyway, every time we get on the elevators there, I have to stop and look at them.

In another area, we have seen Christmas wreaths displayed in different places. Like above the loft window in a barn and around a mailbox. etc.

  • for Mysteryhorse and other horse lovers, I hope you can see this for I have forgotten so much about posting pictures.

  • June, so sorry to hear about Inky. Those little critters sure own a part of ones life. My two, the 10 year old Jasper and the year old, Jim have become great friends, to each other and to us. We tell them hello and goodbye as though they were people. They eat the best and have all their needs taken care of and why not? They are there and we have the means? Needless to say, we love them.

  • Mysteryhorse, What a beautiful view. Would be hard for me to stay away from that window. Would try to spend all the daylight hours on the porch. Such sweet grandchildren too. They are growing up so fast.

  • Good morning everybody. Where is everybody? Probably hunting a sweatshirt or sweater? It is cold here in eastside Indianapolis. It was 35* when DH went out to get the morning paper and is only 34* now. The sun is shining brightly and the cold snap slapped all the geraniums and begonas that were still out side. They will have to go into the garage until we put them all together in one big pot for the winter. Then they will live in the dark corner of the furnace room until springtime.

Must get the treats together for all of the Halloween critters. Then begin the plan for the 36 souls that will be with us in November to celebrate Thanksgiving. dinner it'self will be at my eldest DD's houses after which the celebration moves mostly here and there, DD's and DS's. Some will be here early that week and leave on Friday and others will be here on Wednesday and stay until Sunday. They will all spend the nights at either our house or my son's or my DD's.

They sleep in shifts and mainly dwell at our house trying to not miss anything. My DH and I will creep away to our room to grab some sleep any time we are tired of it all. The party just continues on and on. Some are going to take the little ones to the Indy Children's Museum. Also on Black Friday starting very early in the morning some will go Christmas shopping and find some bargains. Cleaning up after all that is done by everyone who stayed here, mainly my youngest DD and her family. Then magically, all of the weeds and downed debris from all the trees will just disappear. Often, our car will get a thorough cleaning and washing too. Of course they eat a lot too. Someone is eating all of the time. Someone is loading or unloading the dishwasher all of the time.

The wonderful part is there doesn't seem to be any arguments or bad feelings or spats at all if there are, we are not aware of them. I think that since they don't see each other except for that one week in a year, that they just cope with it all.
    Thank you God indeed.

  • Diane, I have the address. It would be nice to know your sister's name.

  • Good Morning, it is dark out there, of course at this time in the night as morning is yet to come. The noise is picking up a tiny bit on the expressway but I hear no other traffic noises. I just woke up so will go get a cuppa and get my mind in order, well just a little bit anyway...later.

  • Hi everyone. Been around, just very late at night. I am having a terrible time with my Narcolepsy. When I say I need to sleep, I am in agony until i can. So, I have never been gone, just have so much I must do when I am finally awake. I do go back to read what went on that I might have missed.

It is almost fall and the leaves are starting to fall in earnest. Also, so sad to see the ones that have died and the ones that have been cut down. The poor squirrels have eaten every potted plant that we had out, also a lot of other things. Some of them aren't going to make it through the winter, I fear.

I haven't done anything of interest so nothing to tell. I sure will be glad when this election is over, I am so tired of it all. We saw several of the new TV shows. I can't say that any of them are worth watching again. One about a neighborhood taken over by alien families is just plain silly. Another about a woman doctor connected to the Mob. Bloody, and uninteresting.
I listed nothing last month so I had better get with it. Need to take some pictures. I have no idea what is going to sell any more so will just punt, I guess.

Oh and about people missing. I just figured that all must have had a lot to do since the break in the weather.

  • I am so concerned. I just can't sell books.
I had to close my small book shop because of my dis-integrating health. I put a lot of them in a storage unit and many of them are still there. Of course, I have so many at home that I am about like the ”Old woman in a shoe” for I have so many that I don’t know what to do.. with them. I have listed them every time eBay has offered a free listing and my sales record shows that there is simply no market for them. I have listed well over 300 books and have sold only 6 books. As I look back, the records show that not many people looked at them, hence, no sales. I will have to just try to sell my non book items.

Woe is me. Haven’t found a way to create an interest.

  • A new relative has arrived Bob? How wonderful.

  • Good Morning Everybody! It isn't light enough yet to see if the porch is wet but it has been every day for a while now. That sure is a new experience after all of those months of very dry. My house plants look great because they have had care. The outside porch plants look good too because they spent the summer in the shade near the garden hose faucet.

Now if we can just get the election over, all will be okay for a while. I am so sick of the news media and the political stuff that I don't even watch tv much and get my news at Yahoo. I have noticed in the newspaper that there have been a rash of fires and shootings and burglary. I guess I can blame that on human nature.

As you can see, I need some coffee. Later, when I am in a better mood.

  • boy, I hit the post tab before I was ready. That should read...claim on his taxes, not takes. Also to get something from the car should read, and couldn't wait til I got dressed. DD calls it fumble fingers. Yep, that I have.

Sometime when I am in a better mood, we could discuss letting your children use your car. Boy, what a scary time that was.

  • I wore pajamas for a long time after I had kids. I found that if you get up at night to tend to a child, a slinky nightgown is not the thing to wear. Also, since we often had an extra child visiting, and DH asked me once how many of the neighbor kids I thought he could claim on his takes, pajamas were the thing. Then there is the rush to get "them" going and more than once I have had to rush out doors to retrieve something from the car, etc and could wait until I got dressed to to it.

  • Good Morning, it has been raining, isn't that wonderful? A slow steady rain that we have needed so badly. Our lawn is looking better and most of the brown is gone. It looks like there will be a lot of clover when it gets over the damage this drought has caused. However, it is a different story with some of our evergreens. They are burnt in places all over the top of the plants. Hopefully, that can all be trimmed away. There are trees across the street and down the street in both directions that have died and some have already been cut down and hauled away. I don't ever remember such damage to our plants as has happened this year and I was born and raised here in Indiana.
Well, enough of the gloom and doom. The flooding that was to happen never did so that is the good news.

The conversation last night about sleeping apparel was quite interesting. I sleep in all kinds of things besides pj's and nightgowns. I like them both but with the unstable sleep periods I have been known to sleep in whatever I had on when I can't stay awake any longer. Daily wear is usually jeans, all shades of blue and tees topped with scrubs. I love scrubs and wear them most of the time. They are easy to take care of and I have a nice collection of them, most I have gotten on eBay.

  • It has bee very cloudy all day. Then hearing there were to be heavy rain and terrible winds and possible tornados we are ready for anything, or as ready as we will ever be. This morning's newspaper and the TV told us to forget all of that news and the new forecast is for a normal rain of 2-5 inches. Well, here at 7:00 p.m. what ever it is to be is grumbling along in the south west and while all the air is quiet and a leaf is stirring. The cats have been antsy all day and kept going from window to doorway. Now, they have the "the heck with it" attitude and are asleep here by me.

  • Every once in a while, when I am feeling badly, I want to go to bed, pull up the kivers and read. Not something new where I have to really read, concentrate to realize the location, personalities and relationships of the main characters.
I want to read something that I have read before and be comforted by the words even though I know the outcome of the story. Comforted like wearing an old sweater and a pair of old house shoes. That is when I get down a Charles Dickens something, an Isaac Asimov robot tale or perhaps something by James Michener. That has happened a bit lately as the details of living and getting used to different health issues get to be in a worry zone. I recommend this type of reading as a tonic for a lot of things.

  • Am praying a special one for my friends in Florida and others in the path of this hurricane. It all makes me feel so helpless. Hugs.

  • Good Morning all. It is a beautiful morning with the sun shining through the Green Leaves. I am amazed at how fast things are recovering from the drought. The bushes seem to be badly damaged though. Some have big areas of death, the fire bushes in the neighborhood are dead. Those kind of bushes must have a shallow root system for it is happening to them everywhere. We, DH, managed to keep the potted porch plants in pretty good shape. He moved them into the shade in a spot very near the garden hose. The squirrels will have a hard time this year for a lot of the acorns have dropped and they are tiny deformed things. We will just have to go out in the country side and buy some corn to get them through the winter.

It is nice and cozy to be sitting in front of the TV watching all of the Olympics and reruns. DH is recovering very well from his Pace Maker. He will have to stay quiet for most of the next week and then he will be able to drive but no water aerobics for a while yet. We have had help from our family and friends so the whole thing has gone smoothly.

Jim I have enjoyed your travel pictures. You do fabulous work.

  • DH is in the hospital tonight. He is fine. He came through the Pace Maker proceedure and is doing well. He will come home tomorrow. My DS took us both to the hospital this morning and then stayed with me until DH came out of surgery and we went with him to his room and when he went to sleep in the middle of a sentence, we came back home. Mim and DS are doing fine too. Night all, take care and stay safe.

  • Haha Carol, I know sometimes this puter slang can kinda mix you up. I consider you all my friends even if you aren't on facebook. I would be your friend there too ifen you'de ask.

  • Diane, yep, I do exercise my right any time I want to. I just think that some of the things he says are so funny and he says them with a straight face. Why don't you be my friend on facebook and then you can read some of his funnies? I haven't taken the time to find out how to do it.

  • Har, DGS, shares his "inner wisdom" with me often say, "Yelling 4 letter words at your treadmill apparently won't make it slow down.

  • Diane, it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with your sister. Glad whenever you find some time for yourself.

Patsy, sorry to hear about your toe. I have broken several of my toes, I suppose from going bare-footed and wearing
flip flops and sandals. BTW, I have so enjoyed the pictures of you family and the beautiful children. Shows some good parenting there.

Jim, I am glad that you are sharing your thoughts about your Kindle. I just bought my DH one for his birthday and he is delighted with it. I had him try mine first though and he liked it too. Actually, I forward a lot of your posts to him as you have some ideas and experiences as he does. He was a chemist at Procter & Gamble an engineer at GE and retired from Chrysler as an engineer so you have much in common.

  • Hi Ann, so good to see you. I miss all of your poetry and pictures. Or, do you post somewhere also with them? There are some things that we don't see lots of here and I miss it so. I don't post pictures either. I just haven't found out just how to do it.
So much has been going on here that all I can find time to do is read the board and procrastinate on the posting. Bad Mim. It seems that if it rains, it pours (NOT) because everything happens in a bunch. I broke a crown somehow, and I haven't found time or the courage to get to the dentist. The reason is my DH has not been well. He has lost a lot of energy and has had fainting spells. He has managed to sit down before hitting the floor thank God but it has scared me half to death. A trip to his Cardiologist and lots of tests shows us that he needs a pacemaker. That will happen next Tuesday.

Then The air conditioner quit, the hot water heater quit and the garbage disposer quit and I wish all these bad things would just quit.

My beautiful flowers, some bushes and the berry bushes are either dead or badly damaged. The grass is gone and we have to fill the bird bath every day. Today I saw a squirrel just plop down in the BB and soak in the water for a good while.
Otherwise, we all seem to be holding up through it all and I still have so much to be thankful for.

  • bye Maureen, gone but not forgotten. No pain, no worries, yes, that's for her now.

  • Great auctions Anne. Looks like you know how to use this place. Any advice?

No Rain but lower temps. What a relief to be in the 90's.

No puzzles with this rascal kitty here.

  • My grandson lives in Charlotsville, Virginia and he still doesn't have power. Somehow he can use his telephone and he and the dogs are living in the basement which is much cooler. He had to send his two boys 5, and 8 to his inlaws in California for the heat was making them sick. He didn't say so but I'll bet they lost everything in their frig and freezer.

  • My youngest daughter and her DH will be here visiting from Lake Orion, Michigan, through Monday so we will be doing little more than visiting, hopefully. I miss them so. She says she will set me straight on the listing thing. This is when children are worth their weight in gold. They never come and go home without leaving so many things done and giving us peace of mind. In our case it is Rubys, in weight instead of gold for, our last name is Ruby, and they call Indy and this house Rubyville. A little fun there.

We had to take down all of our hanging flowers and plants and put them over by the fence in the shade. Full sunlight is cooking them and they are dying fast unless in the shade. There hasn't been rain or even a sprinkle for weeks. All around us there have been short showers but, we have only gotten a few drop so I could do as much good by going out on the porch and spitting.

The cats are sleeping a lot but wake up of an evening and want to play. Silly kitties. They are drinking a lot of water too.

  • I hear some bangs. Always thought that they were a waste of money to just have that noise when the colors are so beautiful. No rain yet. Can't save some of the flowers and the blooms on the tomato and cucumber plants are drying up.

Is anyone besides me aggravated, annoyed or just hate to pieces the new posting method? Real close to packing up things up and sending them to auction and the other stuff to SA. All that work and have to do it over each time they change things.

  • Aw Maureen, I so wish I could help and I would if we weren't so far apart. Indiana is such a long way off. All I can really offer is my prayers and you have them. Think of all of the friends you have made here and who care. I am sure that your kitty is in a good place too... hugs friend.

  • I worry about you peoples down south and watch the weather reports to try to follow the worst happenings. Right now it is all water. We don't have enough and our lawns are gone. Wouldn't mind it so much if some of it was going to put out those wild fires in the west. Then down South, you are having too much. Prayers sent in both directions.

  • Carol and Beth. We have often planted beets in our little gardens. I love beets, especially the first ones from the garden I had no idea that the leaves were good to eat. We usta get wild asparagus, which was wonderful. Hunted the Morel mushrooms too. Had to get up early to find them because the cows loved them too. Taste like nothing else. Wild apples were out there too but often full of worm holes. We had an orchard with marvelous apples potatoes and persimmons for sale near us so we bought lots. Fried apples with butter raisins and brown sugar or maple sugar, which ever was handy. Sometimes on a farm there isn't the time to do and do a lot of things so, if the produce was there at the side of the road or animals got into yours, you just bought other people's stuff. Twas a great way to meet your neighbors. They knew where we lived because they recognized our truck. lol. Miss it so very much.

DH filled the birdbath and boy are the robins having a time of it. Drinking a lot and bathing a lot in the same water. No accounting for some creatures taste. Those birds are like kids and chase some of the other birds away. Fun to watch too.

  • It is very different than most June mornings I remember. In some ways like the night before Christmas for not a leaf or creature is stirring not even a mouse, bird, chipmunk or squirrel. The grass and other greenery is a dry shad of yellow or brown. We have experienced other droughts here in Indy but never this early in the year.
On the other hand, the porch flowers are beautiful for they are well watered. I find myself filling the teakettle with cold water gathered while waiting for the hot to come along the plumbing. The bird bath takes several buckets full. The hose is over on the other side of the house and it is easier to just take the water from the kitchen. The robins splash a lot of their water out so the grass is greener around the bb. They drink a lot too so it takes several trips a day to keep it full.

  • Diane, you are such a good person, to take such good care of your sister. I am sure she knows it too. Hope you can get to your painting again. I love to see them too.

  • Good for you Bob, am proud of you.

  • Carol, I see that the post I thought I wrote is not there. Sigh! Let's blame it on old age. I suppose that I forgot to click on "Post Message" Anyway her is the answer to your message. We live right smack dab in the middle of Indiana, in the far east side of Indianapolis. Also, just north of the old US 40 and what they called the National Road. It is a beautiful neighborhood and full of older homes, most 50 to 60 years plus and many old trees, bushes and flowers.

  • Jude, what foods do you feel are aggravating your gout. I have tried and it just doesn't seem to make a difference what I eat. Never any worse now that I take meds for it just still there. Hard to walk.

  • Ah Diane, don't let that ole devil depression get a hold of you. Sounds like you are doing enough for two people. I think you are just tired, probably worn out. How are all those flowers you planted earlier? Are you having to water them like we are?

  • We are still waiting on the rain. The newspaper tells us that the fruit growers are worried because the developing crops are going to produce smaller in size as well as in quantity. We could tell that because our black raspberries are much smaller and lots of them are dried up. The birds are visiting them more than usual because of the lack of water. Our hanging plants are doing very well for I fill up empty milk bottles and DH soaks everything.

  • Patsy, I see that you are having feet and walking problems. Hope that it is better today. It seems than my bare feet, bare because they are too swollen to tolerate shoes, seem to find anything that has fallen or is out of place to step on or stumble over. My feet and ankles still hurt but are some better all the while.

  • I notice that my whole out look on other's suffering has changed. I have great compassion for our sick and their caretakers on this board and I pray for you all.

  • Jude, I am still trying to hang on my sanity of keeping my diet. Right now, it is the 2 2's of liquids and salt. It is very hard since husband does most of the cooking. He really does the best he can. I miss big glasses of milk the most. I drink milk, but not the amount I did. It really is hard and the Gout goes marching on. It is much better but my feet and ankles swelling are hard to keep down too. Some pain, but nothing like it was.

  • Hope you have had a wonderful, fun birthday Webmaster.

  • Diane, hope that shot's gonna help. Looks like Sis is a little better?

Bob, have you gone back to visit the animal since you retired?

We need rain so badly. I fill up all the empty gal. jugs I can find and DH waters all the porch flowers almost every time he goes out the door. The flowers are doing well.

  • One of the things that I found in the book case that I had forgotten and read, I like very much. It is "The Dog Says How" by Kevin Kling. Kevin is an author who visits often on All Things Concidered, on the radio. Yes we do still listen to it but only while we are in the car.

  • I have gotten 27 books listed and boy do I ever feel tired. I had to take advantage of these free listing offers. Now if they will just sell. I am so glad to be able to do it because it is about the only thing that I can do to contribute to the general house hold. It is kind of hard to accept being handicapped. Thank God for computers for it is also my only fun thing to do now, except reading.
I have a pile of mending to do too that is calling to me every time I go by it.
The cats meow too every time I get into the frig a dater, ( our wee one's pronunciation) haha, they both love milk. Lucky cats because, so do I and there is always some there.

  • Patsy, see you aren't feeling too well either. Think that happens a lot at our ages. Hugs for your kitties too

To Stamphick and all the rest of you gouties, I hope that all is calm and painless.

  • Hi JUNE, I always look at your weather reports, Helen does too because we know that is how our weather will be later on. How about some rain? Now no down pour, ya hear? Just some of those nice gentle rains that waters all the plants and wash off the porches and the car. A hug for the kitties. You too.

  • Sam, you need some extra strong thoughts too. Doing too much aren't you? Well, you take care as you don't need to be sick too. Thanks for being such a caring person.

  • Diane, I keep watching to see if your situation is any better. It is so hard to take care of others, even if you love them so much. I know that you are just exhausted. Big, strong, positive thoughts sent your way. Huggs.

  • Maureen, bummer! Sorry to hear you are feeling badly again. Still praying that you will be better soon. I know that it is hard for you to do it but thanks for telling us.

  • Boy, what a messed up month this has been, to the emergency room three times as the gout pain was so bad that my pain killers didn't even touch it. It is with me right now and I have it under control. It keeps moving around. Sigh, maybe I am somehow paying for deeds past?

The good news is that I have finally passed the 1,000 points in feedback. Slow and steady they call me but I just can't find mah gun.
Have been reading the posts every day and send prayers to the ailing and the care givers.

  • The gout has come back and I am unable to go much farther than the next room which is my bedroom and the bath room is in the middle of getting from here (the computer to there). DH is just about worn out himself and DS and DD help as much as they can. I take my meds and try to not ask for much. I did manage to sell 3 books last week and what a surprise that was. DH took them to the po for me. Really did a lot for my ego.

I am so glad to be able to do what I can do and the pain is what they call managable. That means that if it gets to the teeth gritting bit I will have to go to the emergency room at our hospital.
Oh, and thanks for just being here. To read what is going on is just great for me.
You all take care and you are in my prayers.

  • G Diane, that is a big Bummer about your sister. Rest tonight. It's your turn.

  • Today is an anniversary of sorts. I became a registered member of eBay 15 years ago today. Boy what a lot of changes in my life and in eBay it's self.

  • We'll be praying for you Maureen and Bless you Sam.

  • Re Ant Wars. Oh yes, I have had more than one war with the ants. I have found that if you once see them that you should mop your floors with vinegar right after you do the regular mopping. It is supposed to destroy the path that they leave when they are exploring, which is what they are doing when you see them. I have used this method before and it works for me. We seldom see even one any more.

  • Marriage, I am all for it. It has been 61 years now and I know that we will be together for eternity. We have purchased our final resting place, side by side. Although we both have made this happen, I know that it is not for everyone.

  • Aw, Maureen! don't put yourself in that category. Those who don't want to read your posts can just click on by.

I think what you forget is that there are those peeps out there who feel and look like you do who need your information.
Or they have loved ones or friends who want to know what you know too.

Just hang in there with this imperfect bunch and I am sure that many want to hear what you have to say.

  • Maureen, so glad that you sought some help and that maybe you will be better now. Will keep you in my prayers.

  • Paula, yes, 4 you. I just thought you would think it funny. One of my puppies chewed on the cover which is why it never sold. It is a gift. Couldn't find your last name. Guess the postman figured it out? lol

  • Clementine, have you received anything in the snail mail from me lately?

  • What did I miss. I haven't read all the posts but I sure missed you all.
