• Hi All,

First. Thank you for B'day greetings, on the 11th. Been having computer problems. Getting the "Blue screen of death" ....more than once. It says something about safe mode etc, blah, blah,blah..... Tring to find free computer help. time will tell.

    ***************
Trying to get in to post this.
I heard on news today about NEW TOXIC SOMETHING IN PET JERKY from China. Could someone go find out and post . TIA

Can't take the chance of stressing my system much more than this post attempt .
    .

  • Hi all,

I've been remiss in posting. Super hot and humid (for us), in August, which makes me practically brain dead. Wedding of good friend, a past student, which was probably the nicest most relaxed, fun wedding I have ever been to. Took a fall ('cause feet legs don't work right since accident 5 1/2+ yeas ago) and broke two adhesions loose, which was a good thing.
Just got back from Illinois orthopedist and chiropractor, plus took Mom back at same time. Ortho gave me something to try something for the neuropathy from accident. Have gotten some feeling back with time, from healing/regeneration/or whatever, so we'll see what this new stuff does.
There was a pet show at Mom's retirement home just after we got down so entered Teddy. It was hot. It got hotter as week went on. Car’s rear view mirror thermometer showed 99 on Tuesday and heat index was over 100. Close to that high most of week. Of course the cool down came the day I left. lol Last night is was 42 here at home.

More later, or as I like to say News at 11!

    PERSIEDS Meteor Shower Tonight !

Find yourself a dark area and "LOOK UP" Peak actually Monday AM a bit before dawn (forgot exactly how much before dawn would be peak) but should be pretty good for a few more days. I never make the "before dawn" watch.

I went out last night, with a friend, just after dark... 9 ish ..... and saw 2 small ones right away. Overall I saw at least 10-12 (stopped counting) in about 20-30 minutes. Friend saw some that I missed. There were three, count'm THREE , awesome ones with long, fat tails. Hope I am more awake tonight.

My lessons are almost done. Been crazy every day for weeks. Not any real trail rides but still hanging on. Back /legs have been spasing a lot but I am managing...just not typing. Teddy was lost for 1 1/2 hours last week and I was freaked out. More later if fingers oblige.
    .

  • DIANE - My deepest condolences to you and your family.

  • Dealing with spasms in back and legs for a couple of weeks. Try to read BB when I go online to check weather but have not posted.

DIANE – So sorry to have read Von is taking a turn for the worse. You;re in my thoughts. Hugs.
    .

  • Hi everyone Thought I should check in . Got back from Illinois doctor visits two weeks ago tomorrow. Had three appointments, but one was cancelled as roads were closed with flooding. A first for me.
Came back with Mom. She is in her own house just 600 feet down the road. My niece and her DH will will be there most of summer. Niece's DH is fireman and save his OT up all year so he can fish most of summer. Niece comes on weekends and vacation days so some one is usually sleeping in house. I am back and forth from my house, barn and Mom's.

I am spending more time outside no and not so much on computer. Much outdoor work needs doing, which is still taking much more time than pre-accident, and I can only do in little increments, if at all. Still trying to find some strong help but every one is busy this time of year so no luck yet. Really need someone to weed whip.

Have found plenty of hay (he has 2000 bales and I have 33 in barn now) and need to decide how much of it I should get. I need about 2000 for winter. It is first crop, pretty well cured, nice grass hay but not as high protein as I like. I really like to feed second crop but do not know if we will get second crop or how good it might be.

Lessons have started, have had no trail rides yet and just a couple of pony rides.

Have read and tried to keep up. Hugs and good thoughts for those with issues. Congrats and "Happy's" for those with B-days and milestones. Commiserating with those who have had setbacks.

  • DIANE Sorry. falling sucks.
Jobes/support hose - I took Mom's off ( before she could do it herself) with her on the bed lying down, sometimes I sat on bed . Did pulling only from my arms. Kind of scrunched the down at first the pulled inside out and off. Mom put her own on after big swelling went down . I had her accordion them rolling was too hard, even pre-accident, for me. She normally doesnt need them but had stood over two hours on cement floor at program in Chicago . Only had to wear them about two weeks then was back to normal fortunately.

Off Sun or Mon to Illinois for Doctors and then Mom will come back with me to Island till after Labor day. Her eyes are much worse than in the winter plus next year, at this time, she will be 98 1/2. This may be her last summer here. Her house is only 600 feet down the road from me.

  • Helen - Concurring with BOB on Catholic. Doesn't leben mean chidren?? Also google the publisher. and the name with the OFM at the end. I looked up some missals a few years aog and found convents/monestrrries that did publishing in Ohio.

    DIANE - Hugs to you.

  • Woke at 4 ish then heard thunder and could not get back to sleep. Came down to pull plugs on Computer but decided I might be able to go online to check radar and lightning quickly. Did so . Poofing now.

DIANE - Plain old yarn might be easier to learn with. Thread would be for more lace type work wouldn't it? I tried, eons ago, with yarn but no patience to keep up. I would be too tense or loose.
That's OK, though, as I have lots of other things I like better and was better at pre accident. Hammered a tiny bit yesterday did not fling hammer out of hand, for a change.

  • Morning everyone.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!, to all the Mom’s out there.

I got back late Friday night from Illinois doctor trip. It has been down to 32 and have seen snow flakes since getting home. Friends 40 miles to north across the water had quarter size flakes yesterday. The mid-lake bouy is back in the water for the season. It is showing 35+ mph wind gusts and steady of about 30 mph. I like the readings off of that weather station the best ( for wind) as there is no blocking air flow from land or trees. I get temps locally.
It was a bit hectic before I left, with Teddy to vet, packing and computer issues. I have a very reasonable vet. Bill was $30 total of which $22 was his bordetella vaccine, and he also scaled his teeth, clipped nails and looked at a bump on his chest. Bump should just be a fatty thing, but I will keep watch.

KATHLEEN - Have not seen news of you tanker crash and may google it. Sounds like it will be a mess for quite a while. Can imagine the mess with vacationers this summer too. ugh.

DIANE - Continued best thoughts for you and Von.

Talked to BOOKLEAVES Friday. Have not talked to TEDFRED in a while. Thinking of CASINOKAT, today especially.

  • .
    RABBIT, RABBIT, RABBIT

    Happy May Day
    .

  • DIANE - Teddy had something going on early in the winter, similar to Rowdy. He would poke me to go out and then not need to 'go' when he was out. He just stood outside. I would bring him in and he wanted to go out again.
Not sure what was going on but ended up thinking he was a little feverish so gave him baby aspirin for a day or so as the first one helped a lot. Gave him extra yoghurt, too.
When he was definitely feeling better I could tell that he was much cooler. I am good at gauging his temp by putting fingers in his ears and on belly skin near back legs. He has allergies, so his regular temp is a bit higher than a normal dog temp. As his temp got back to his normal his normal attitude came back too. Hopefully Rowdy will come along the same way.

  • Tah DAH! It worked

Wow JIM, four thumbs how cool.
    .

  • Been trying to post this since 1 15 or so Did a test on glass and it worked. We shall see if this one works.

DIANE - Can't you put a leash on him?? and bring him in. Hope he is OK.

Teddy wants to stay out more and just 'sniff'. Many scents floating around in the spring air. His allergies are kicking up. Friday night had to give him a Benedryl.

  • Morning everyone

Well, we hit 60 on Sat and 70 on Sun. Still have much ice on north side of barn. Snow piles almost gone. Grass just tinged with green. No real growth yet.
Entrance Daffys (driveway/road lots of sun) just popped green shoots on Thursday through snow piles. I noticed buds yesterday. The ones around the new septic area are starting to break through.

    FYI from Morse talk yesterday

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/mystery/essays/farewell.html

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/mystery/essays/exit.html

Links to others at bottom. They load fast ( dial-up) and are interesting. I have seen a few Morse episodes. Did not know they were that old nor that he (both actor and the character)had died.

LLUDWIG - Cool on Swifty's start up. Is he selling shares?

BILL – Think you might have been watching an old Pawn like 2010, 2009 or older. Do not think he uses “my man” anymore. That bugged me to. He is only in his early 20’s right? So he is still maturing. However his father in 40s has not finished maturing either so…..
Also do not like the mean name calling and do wish they had better grammar.

Pawn Stars had one “expert” on 4 year old show or so that was wrong on an item so I also now wonder on validity of experts on other items.
The item was a McClellan cavalry saddle and ‘expert’ said since the seat was only 12 inches it had to be a child’s saddle (or some such). Twelve inch was the bigger size of McClellan’s. One rode very upright, almost standing, not on their butt. Think the guy also said something about lack of padding. Well saddle was for comfort of the horse NOT the rider. I still have about 10-12 of my McClellans. Used to have over 20.

  • Hi everyone

Be sure to check out Google's Doodle today. Multifaceted layers. Goes through seasons, moon phase, sunrises sunsets, rain etc. Only flaw I saw was they had the snow appear in the spring rather than winter. Plus, things happen when you click the hand in certain areas.

    AEG - Got it. Thanks.

PATSY - Your FOL sale, as always, does amazing business. Thanks for sharing.

  • AEG/ANN -Tried to phone you. House doesn't work cell has no voice mail. You will be in the area at a VERY good time.

went back online to look something up... played solitaire while loading then forgot what I needed to look up. LOL Guess I will either remember .... or I won't.

    24 degrees here

    .

  • Morning or rather afternoon everyone
Snowing here. Flurry-esque, much space between flakes but blowing a gale.

    AEG- When in MAY?

MYSTERYHORSE - We had that heavy wet snow last week along with several power outages in a 2-3 day period. Would just get everything reset ( after allowing time for it to stabilize) and it would go out again.

  • Wow, Just checked the weather station Gusts around 45mph, steady at over 30mph. Barometer plunged too. May be a three day blow.

Something fell in the woods. Couldn't get a direction on the sound. Teddy was busy telling me that 'something made noise' out there. bark, bark bark. It messed up my echo location. LOL

  • hey everyone

    not spring yet

snowing off and on and blowing continuously, here. we are at exactly 32 degrees

  • We had a bit of snow today and then it got up to 40 something. My driveway is solid ice or, in the small areas that have melted, quicksand.
I have frostbite on both big toes. The nerve to them must have shifted. They ( the toes) had been really good all winter even in the sub zero temps. So good that I had not been checking them regularly.

Where does the time go??? It was eight years today that I lost my sweet Penny. Still call Teddy, Peddy or Tenny on occasion.

Teddy has a bump on his chest. Think / hope it is just a fatty cyst. Mobile vet may becoming soon. If he doesn't, will see Illinois vet next time I am down there.

My radio link is not loading correctly. Looks like I set the alarm for 6 AM on Saturday.

  • Morning - Thanks BETH and JIM.
Kept getting knocked off line every time I came to post last night. But got answer to one question beacause of the getting knocked off. The little bit I did have "loaded" (do not know if that is what it actually did but I caouls play the it when off line.

BETH - The link you gave me has two click places. One goes right back to the bad WGN page but the "play" button pops up a Quick tunes / iTunes (?) bar that looks just like what I used to get from the WGN site.

I think I can also just change the date in the url to get the show I missed. Will test now.

Hi CLEM - We usually keep missing each other.

MIM - hope you are settling in well.

  • BETH - Is that what you call streaming audio??? I used to able to load it to MY computer and it would stay there and then I could listen at will. If it only comes in as streaming then I probably won't be able to listen to it on computer anymore. Thanks for trying.

SAM - Ditto on the congrats for your DD

  • Morning

Wondering if someone could go here
Mr. Fix It full show: March 16 hour 1
and tell me how this podcast works.
For years I got this show on my dial-up connection. It took about 40 minutes to load but then I had it I could even be off line ( as long as I had not shut down) and listen as I chose.

THEN... they totally changed the website and did not have my show. They must have gotten a lot of complaints because they have brought it back. HOWEVER I can not get it to load past the first minute or so. Actually I don't know if it is even "loading " in the way I know loading.

    Thanks for any input.

BTW... This is the FIX-IT guy I listen to Saturday mornings ( unless I over sleep) He is awesome. It is call in show. I put my own wood floor down with his advice. He was a full time contractor builder and then an occasional guest on WGN's mid morning radio show in the early 90's (approx). That led to this Fix-it show and a regular feature now on NBC Today show and another TV show on Sunday.
For you fix it people you might like it too. I glean lots of info from him. It can go from wood to water to roofs to cement and varmit removal and all in between.

  • Oh yeah...I fer-got

Mother nature gave me a few April Fool's day snow squalls

  • Hope everyone had a good Easter (for those that observe it) end of Passover is here to I think. Tomorrow? or ??

Love the sales reports and will read tomorrow. A friend helped in my house last week. Yesterday I took all silverware out of drawer and tried to match sets. Short work sessions, many many breaks, but it is out and drawer cleaned.

We wear below freezing all night and today. May warm up during days next 5 or 6, but drop below freezing for next week. Had to turn the stock tank heaters back on. We are back to skating ring driveway.

  • PFFT Had post in box BB decided to unsign me in apparently when I hit post.

PAULA - Thought numbers were on the board.

Forgot what else I had typed....Oh well.

  • .
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! DIANE / FURTIMA
    .

  • MYSTERY - LOL Movie .... FLICKA .... a remake with "Ken" as a girl.

  • PAULA - That is what the pot says. Blue stamp and all. Must have looked at something else with the incised mark.

MYSTERYHORSE - that is my pot exactly!
Did you see the 2007 that was on HALLMARK channel today? I taped it. We will probably start having more horse movies on the dish. Happens every spring as the Derby gets closer.

LIZ - thanks for adding in more info. I have been in Zanesville and bought a little pitcher for my Mom, back in the 80's. .
Utilitarian is what I want so that is good.

  • I forgot... The book section was the ONLY section that was NOT half price. Bummer.
    .

  • Hi everyone.
Back from Illinois doctor. Was delayed a day due to snow that hit on Monday. Wasn't so much the snow but the wind. The system when right up the path I needed to travel. I have been on that Interstate in snow and wind, in the past, and had no desire to repeat the experience. On that trip I was already at point of no return, when it hit, and it took 3+ hours to travel a normal one hour route. It is not fun to only be able to see the inside of your windshield.
Was lucky to changed motel and ferry reservations and got home Wednesday PM. Got the last place on boat for Wed. Had less time for grocery shopping and ended up forgetting a lot of items. Oh well.

For the first time since Mom moved in, 4+ years ago, I hit a half price sale in the home's thrift shop. I usually just miss the sales. Think they only do it two times a year.

Found a nice crock, good size, that looks like it will be perfect for utensils. I'm using a plastic cup now and it keeps falling over. It is oatmeal color with two ( I think) blue bands. Was surprised later when studying it that it is Roseville. It was only $2.

CLEM/PAULA I may need to ask you about it. Newer maybe? with incised stamped marks.

In the book area I got a nice older Courier and Ives book. It has some color plates and lots of b/w. It is just for me, as I found it interesting.

Saw much nice glass and wished I had more $$$ and time to research.
Saw a heavy glass vase that I liked, interesting shape, 18" or so high almost hour-glass shape but the top curved in and it had a scalloped edge. .Also had what I think is wheel cut pattern trying to learn) only $17,
A set of 8 stemmed sherbets? only about $17 also. About 4-5" across top with flat bottom, compote shape with cranberry down and inch or so from lip.Had pattern in glass to. Not sure what type the color process is called, but it looked to be fired or melted on. Not like a paint on top of the glass.
    Many, many other nice pieces.
Almost bought a modern bud vase. Heavy crystal, like a block of glass with hole drilled down center and a simple cut pattern on one side that was like grass slightly blowing in a breeze. It had a small scratch and money was tight so I just said "no". It was only $4 at half price. Wish I had had more time to decide.

  • Oh ah fergot

Hi to BRIGUY, too. Enjoying seeing your stories again.

  • Hi DIANE - Been thinking about you and your knee progress. Seems like it is starting to feel better.

  • Hi all, Haven't kept up with posting but have tried to read. Been on muscle relaxants for 6 weeks or so now. Was a bit dopy for first little while till I got used to them. Off to see chiro tomorrow.
We are going back to the single digits tonight. again. It will help to stop the rapid melting. Was having some flooding issues, at the barn, yesterday.

Mystery - I knew you meant Snowman without even looking at your link. I have my original copy with DJ. If I find that I have a second copy we can talk.

Jim - Have a great trip!!

Happy B'days to those I missed. Clem, CAROL and DUPO I think.

BETH- Thought of you as I was ordering something. for my Mom. from Vermont Country Store yesterday.

  • We have DUPO's storm expected here tomorrow. Going to stock up on some food stuffs and get gas. We are probably over $4 here.

DIANE - Speaking of fraud...... This morning on the CBS news show they had a piece on the Scooter Store and their methods of selling them to some who maybe did not really qualify for them. A humorous note is that a few minutes after that segment aired, they had an ad for ...yep..., the Scooter Store.
    .

  • drs-t Here. ° It is in character map under accessories in the old start menue. Save it somewhere then copy and paste when needed. There is a code thing too but do not know how to do that .

we have been down on low digits and some minuses again. 20 ish right now. we seem to go from the lows to melting and warmer then right back to deep freeze leaving solid ice on roads under new snow.
Dealing with a fell blown muscle spasm right now that just won't quit.

  • CLEM - Flu?Really? Likely story LOL.

I wonder how BSAPPY is? I think she may be right in the thick of the storm. Someone on the Glass board has four feet of snow up here dorrs and can not get them open. She is OK hunker down it seems but hope she has an escape plan incase of emergency.

I am surprised that so many here still have power. Thought more boarders might have gotten knocked out.

We were below zero again last night. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain. If it does it will be a mess what with the foot plus of snow we have on the ground now.

Off to feed, and try to top a water tank off, if the "frost free" hydrant isn't frozen.
    .

  • Jim - Yes on multiple deliveries. I have many of GGP and GP postcards (late 1800s early 1900s) where they sent in AM(from one town) and said they would be on PM train (in recipients town. Others seemed to indicate there might have been three deliveries. a day.

  • CAROL - Snowing here too, but we should not get what you are getting. Hope you can stay in and hunker down.

  • Morning Boards...book, glass, pot, et al.

Gray breaks, behind big white flakes.

Minus 2 last night up to 12 already.

Last week at this time I had had a horse missing for over 24 hours. A bit stressful to say the least.

Wonder if Richard will be given a ticket for being expired in the parking lot?

DIANE - "More or less OK". Good way to put it. Thanks.

CLEM - Thanks for the push, I think.... maybe.... Has taken one hour to do just this.

  • Happy Holidays to all!

All times when fingers were 'typing able' I was working on buttoning up farm for winter, off to chiro, no or bad internet connection and sometimes just in a general funk. Had a whopping 10Kbps for a while but was too hard to connect. that went on for a week or two. Had a few power failures also. I swear each time that I had time anf had good fingers the computer had issues. I KNOW! It's a conspiracy. LOL Had a really good adjustment in November but it is the nature of the injury for thigs to slip out again.

    BOOK BOARD

    DIANE/FURTIMA hope you heal fast.

    MIM Hope DH improves quickly.

    GLASS BOARD

See some have had issues here too. Hope all get through them.

I will try to not be a stranger in future. Have to finish packing I am heading to Illinois and chiro, again, in less then two hours. Good winter driving today, so '"they" say. New used suburan handles pretty well in the ice and snow that I have had here. We only got about 3 inches of snow because we were so warm it rained for much of the storm, Trade off is I now have skating rink under snow. We still had the 50 plus MPH winds and had no boats running on Friday.

  • Hi everyone. Melted first back in summer then, got glutened in August, and then just enough lightning to keep me off line through first-ish of Sept. then, down in Illinois doing drs appoint. and taking Mom back , then wind, wind, wind, glutened again and then more wind. Lost two horses in four days (unrelated causes) but they were two of my brood mares and also used for lessons and trail. Now have ends of a little virus and we have more wind. Soldiering on.

Irene Thanks for the B'day greetings. I should have been on the B-day lists. wonder where I went

  • DIANE/FURTIMA - I melted.
100 plus heat indexes, 90 actual temps DewPoints in high 70s for weeks and weeks. One day DewPoint "dropped" to like 71 and temp to low 80's. lol I usually am brain dead at 65 dewpoint and mid seventy temps.

MNEWVILLE - Take batteries out. Leave open to air dry for days, maybe. Twist and turn periodically to let water drain from areas. Do on paper towel works pretty good. Use air blowing from hair dryer after obvious water is dissipated. Give it extra drying time after looks good for hidden water to dry. People I know who have done this with phones and other remotes let them sit about a week.

RIP MAUREEN and MAINER111. I miss you.

SAM - Thank you, and all who were involved, for being there to help MAUREEN.

  • Fire works postponed till tomorrow. Had some thunder wnet out to piddle Teddy and ....IT IS RAINING!!!.
Did not know storm was that close. We really need the rain so not complaining.

    HAPPY 4th

  • Hi everyone!

Diane - I saw you asking about me the other day. Thanks for asking. I am OK just busy and therefore too tired to post. Sorry Rowdy does not like to noise. Penny hated it to but Teddy does not mind.
Played catch-up after I got back with the”new” 12 year old car in early June. Then, I started lessons plus hired muscle was here a few times to fix fence, etc. Then was off to Illinois again for Dr appoint and It was 95 to 100 plus the 5 days I was there. Yuck. But it was less humid than what awaited me at home.
Got very loose bridged 4 tooth crown re-cemented. Was worried it could not be done but it came totally out at dentist and is very solid now. Whew. He also touched up the one I cracked in half in March, when I fell, and that now is very solid (or as solid as it will every be). I like to say he did some tuck-pointing. LOL

Brought Mom back with me this trip. She is in her house down the road and will stay till just after Labor Day this year. She is managing to cook on the gas stove. She was afraid that she would not be able to see the flame. She cooks all the time at home ( in Illinois) but has electric in the retirement home.

The car did well on it’s first trip. A/C work very well. Still do not know how big the gas tank is. still testing how much MPH I am getting. Used cheap ethanol gas. Have not done a good test with ethanol free super, yet. Getting used to new nooks and crannies and where to put what but have misplaced my check book. It is an a box somewhere that I used when stuff I transferred from old car to new. Getting used to the icky leather seat and have on gotten stuck to then one time so far., Teddy slides on them, my sheep skin slides off them and everthing on the center console surfaces slide too. Will figure it out eventually.

We have had bad heat here but not as bad as some others. It was 98 heat index today Dew points close to 80, close to 90 actual temp. I did no trail rides today and tomorrow do think I will even be open. It is to be the hottest tomorrow and then cool into the low 80’s. Ha pretty funny for me to say ”cool into the low 80’s” . I don’t like it much over 65 or 70 and hate humidity.

The fire works will start soon and I will go to the top of hill to watch, when I hear the first one go bang.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY KURT!!! Hope it is a great one!

  • Morning - Back from picking up the new used Yukon XL. All I need is a siren and a fireman's helmet and I am all set. You may or may not remember that I said it was BRIGHT RED. Really, really red. Got more than scrap price for the '93 not a lot more but anything more is great. He will part it out.
The new car has POWER, wow. Old one never had much umph even when newer. Don't know yet what kind of mileage I will get but seemed like close to old one. Will have to do more testing. I used A/C on way home plus had over a ton of feed and stuff in it which all can lower mpg.
Knew I had aminor couple of leaks when i bought it, but now have a crunking sound up fron. Strut? stabilizer? or something. Hear it on bumps on flat and when turning wheel. Harvey can look at it tomorrow. Go to Illinois doc in a couple of weeks so mechanic there can check it out but need to know I am safe to get down there.

Now waiting for Tramadol and Advil to kick in. I lifted a full bag of feed yesterday (I keep trying) and shouldn't have. Oh well.
Need to use the skidsteer, as we are nice and dry right now.

Any updates on CASINO, DADKAT AND MAUREEN?

DIANE set backs are a pain, Hope SIS can stay more upbeat but being depressed is part of it all too unfortunately.

BOB hope you find your book.

Interesting about the dreams. I, too, have been dreaming more lately about people from the old days who I have not seen in ages.

  • Hi everyone

Was supposed to leave today to go get the new used suburban. I did not get the new title and plates till last week. Hope I do not forget to take them. It is the GMC version. rather than the Chevy, so is now called a Yukon XL. Will most likely contiune to call it a Suburban as I will probably never get used to saying Yukon XL. LOL

Planning on selling car by the pound so putting as much of my scrap iron and tin inside as I cann.
Will sell my #2 insulated wire separately. Have about 40-50 pounds of that and it is at about $2 a pound now.

If a miracle happens, and I sell the Burb to someone to drive, I could get about $950 to $1000. Will not have a lot of time for that kind of sale. Poundage is the easist.

A friends SIL had a return to hospital after his open heart surgery started to leak blood into the pericardium. That surgery was done at major heart hospital in Midwest.
Personally do not think his home hospital, 400 miles away, did a good job of monitoring his Cumidin levels post surgery. They have a history of checking but then not adjusting levels on other meds.
Repair surgery was NOT done at his home hospital. They went to a very good, about a hundred miles away, facility.

Teddy has continued to learn. He almost heels like a proper obedience dog often with an automatic sit and also will wait for direction before getting a thrown stick. I can alternate between 'play' fetch and obedience fetch based on which words I use. Stay and take it for obedience and just a 'go get it' (or some such) for play.

Finally got the resident raccoon out of the tack room and then left the door open all night and it was back inside today. Ugh.

TEDFRED and BOOKLEAVES are well into their long awaited trip to far flung reaches. Hope they are having a super time.

DIANE - Glad Sis is doing better now and coming home. Have followed her return to hospital, but just have had no umph to post.

CASINO - Best vibes for you and Pat

BOOKDELLE - Belated happy B'day. How nice about the Bose. I understand they are marvelous

  • Morning

Sending best healing vibes for DADKAT, MAUREEN and FURTIMA's SIS.

    PATSY - Congrats to Matthew

  • HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Back from Illinois doc. Much relief for now. Took Mom a huge bunch of daffodils and a few forsythia, She loved them. We did power errands and finally found the right color and weight of denim jeans for her. Got her new new digital box from Comcast and true to my seeming to be ever present Murphy's law syndrome, it was defective. She is now waitning for new one to arrive and I hope my NC sister ( who is visiting Mom now) can change the cords.

Found some decent "free on side of road" stuff. Sold $80 worth comprising of a14 foot round rung wood ladder, clay flower pots, pressed back arm chair, pair of modern lamps with shades, really cool 'beads' (marble? Agro-agate?) which are like large bead-like ovally things on an old lamp part and finally the hardware off of an art deco waterfall dressing table. Also got a $20 finders fee for guarding art deco mirror from garbage trucks.
I got for me about 8 big Fieldcrest towels...the really thick ones, many storage containers, a kids puppet show stage, a big kids easel two sided with dry erase and chalk board including the chalk and paint, an older maple plant stand with nice lines (it does have a crack in the top which I think can be fixed) two 8" 4x4 posts, and a sled which I use to haul stuff around the farm and a tall 18 inch or so by 6-7 inches across, straight sided clear crystal vase and other stuff which escapes me now. Did not pick as much as some years. Only really got to do one section and that was a fairly brief hunt.

MAUREEN - Glad you are home!

FURTIMA - Sorry to hear about your Sis. Glad she is doing well.

  • Saw a butterfly yesterday. Very early for one even with this early spring. I believe that today ( or tomorrow 6th or 7th) would have been Cheri's/ BB-BOO's B-day.

JIM - So true It will be the last place I look. lol Now If that 'last place" could just be the FIRST place I think of.........

  • DIANE - In 1987 when we were in Portland clearing Grampa's house after Daddy died, Mom spent over three weeks going through all papers trying to find deed to Florida Property. My Grandmother and her 4 siblings had bought ten acres in the early 19 teens (Estero (sp?).. now a golf club complex I think). She bought them all out, but one paper was missing. Mom found all tax bills showing only Gramma's name as tax payer and in the end it that, and other papers, was enough for legal proof that Daddy had been the sole heir and therefore it was now Mom's.
Complicated, I know. Daddy had just kept paying taxes after Grampa died in 1983 and he had not changed the paper work.

Wow, it will be 25 years end of this month that Daddy died.

  • Well I am now going to Illinois tomorrow. Watched the radar and the lightning site to see if there would be a hole but it was pretty nasty so decided to wait. It is clearing down south now but it is too late today.

Found the file cabinet I was looking for and no title so have one more place to check or I will have to shell out $$ for replacement.
The little file cabinet I was looking for was not buried in the place I thought it was. Must have changed plan and left it at Mom's summer house. Founds it in my old cabin. My Nephew or BIL must have put it there for me but, as I did not do the moving, I had no memory. Therefore I must have the the title out of that file and put it in a "safe" place, somewhere in my house.
Drawback to old concussion issues is that some memories are not there. Title location being one of them.

  • Morning -

I am off to Illinois to chiropractor today ,,,gone till Friday or so.

Finally got title to new used car, but not soon enought to get licencesd and swapped with old one before trip.
His credit union delay transferring $$, which delayed title co. sending title. Spent hours on phone with my state DMN, the seller, his credit union, and in person our police dept which now has plates. ugh
In bewtween that and normal stuff, Mom's Comcast TV cable co. messed with her service by switching to digital and sho woke up early almost two weeks ago, with no TV, so have spent hours on phone with Comcast trying to learn new system so I can explain it to her.

If anyone has Comcast, beware, they are changing system so you can not program your own equiopment to change channels. You will have to chnage a channel on an adapteter box. Was told it was like a digital converter but turns our it is a decoder as they say even a digital TV or DVR will not work with it. What a pain.

Now hear flash flood warning for Northern Illinois this PM. Debating if I want to drive in storms or not.

MAUREEN - Best thoughts for you. Nice to talk to you the other night. hang in there.

SAM - Glad you are nearby to help.

  • SANDY - None of the 1925 books have DJ's ( FWIW -Missing on most of the 1953 one's too )
It was Wierd that none of the Addall book showed on google. I was shocked when it said 4 total results ( usally a gazzillion lol)

    Thanks you for your input.

Off to the P0, to see if the title got here, and then to dah dump.

  • Book Question. Trying to find out about value, rarity, anything anyone can tell me.

    Doctor Dolittle's Zoo
Written and illustrated by Hugh Lofting
    Fredrick A. Stokes Company
    1925

I could find only 4 total references to this book on google, and only one for sale which was a 1953 printing.

Then I found my addall link and checked there. They have several ( do not know why they did not come up on my bookfinders search)
This one http://www.biblio.com/details.php?dcx=404077697&aid=aa&t=1# is listed at $175.00 and is in bad condition.

Mine is even better than the one at $250.00 here http://biblio.co.uk/details.php?dcx=471845652&aid=aa&t=1#

There is really neat zoom in feature for the photos . ebay could take some lessons from these people.

    MY BOOK
I have no other printing info but the 1925. I believe that it is a first Amercan edition. No D/J. The gray binding on my is really gray, not tan as in the pictured on in the above link.
My cover is bright with ten to twelve colors in the cover pastedown and. Some soiling to edges but corners are barely bumped and just the slightest softness to head and foot of spine. The spine is not even sunned but a hair darker from exposure to air.
Color frontpiece is pristine with tissue between it and title page. The book looks unread. Also, mine looks like it has a gilt top edge. No one else refers to a gilt top edge. Thoughts?

Do I have something that could help pay for my new septic tank? lol Realizing that a book is only worth what someone will pay for it, it sure would help if it was up there. Also my book is in much better shape than the ones listed at $175-$250.

MAUREEN - Keeping you in my thoughts.

    MNEWVILLE - Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

  • CLEM - Found my vase. I did a post on pottery board. Do not plan on selling it. Was mostly interested in the age. But am curious why I can't find the exact mark on the McCoy site. No one has answered that yet.

  • CLEM - Something about dish soap, oil and ? for scale I think. Off to google. I know that a tea made from coffee grounds and poured around a foundation is supposed to stop ants.

    OK googled first.

"Here are the best non-toxic organic garden
    pest control solutions
Garlic fire spray is the stuff of legend. ......." "......Uses for this natural garden pest control are unlimited. Because it has oil and dishwashing liquid in it, it sticks to plants as well as suffocating pests such as scale and mealy bug. "

    From here
    http://www.no-dig-vegetablegarden.com/organic-garden-pest-control.html

    And another site
    http://www.greenharvest.com.au/pestcontrol/scale_info.html

CLEM - Got any ideas about my McCoy vase? Put ??? on Pottery board

JUNE - Hmm that is odd about Cheri's ID.

  • Knew I'd miss stuff

DIANE - Wish I had known you were going to sell your camera equip and lenses. I found a place last year that buys it and sells it overseas, where they still use mostly film. In the Carolinas I think. I have my cameras, some of my dad's too, several lenses, filters and misc.. Not ready to let mine go yet but maybe the others.

PATSY - Congrats on another great FOL sale!

BOB - Yes, you should have gone to ten cent day.

MNEWVILLE - I will get used to the red eventually. Mom loves red cars so she will like it.
Re: good mechanics. This is third generation mechanic( Bobby, the grandson) at shop I have been going to for almost 40 years. Besides being good and honest Bobby also has a 2001 Yukon XL.

  • Hi to everyone!! reading, especially on the BOOK, POTTERY and GLASS boards which are the three I post on the most. I am doing this in one post to save time and personal energy.

I have read read all three boards and hopefully have retained some points which I want to respond to. So PLEASE, if I missed something important don't get your undies bunched. lol

First a little update on my activities. A big concern for me this winter was that I needed a new vehicle capable of towing my 16' stock trailer. You may or may not remember that my hitch receiver peeled off of my frame rendering that vehicle incapable of ever towing anything again. I have high mileage but a well maintained engine and good maintenance. It has 210,900 miles, runs extremely well, gets 18-20 mpg, on tiny oil leak that happens only when running ( and that mostly at idle), the A/C pump/clutch (?) went out just after the hitch broke so have a new bypass pulley for the serpentine belt and the mechanic hit some wire when the cut the remaining hitch attachment off making a draw on the electrically system, so I now just disconnect my battery when I shut it off. Not really a big deal but it does get tiresome sometimes..

Anyway, I began "THE GREAT CAR HUNT", in January/February, just looking to get an idea what was out there.

I have a 1993 GMC Suburban 1/2 ton and need the equivalent as a replacement, which means a GMC Yukon XL or a Chevy Suburban. GMC is higher end than the Chevy ( like Caddy to Chevy in cars) but basically they are the same style. My Mom said she would help me, as I have no extra resources. I was looking at vehicles with 100,000 plus miles, in the late 1999 area as that was all I could afford and those are selling for $5000-7000 and higher!

If I found one with a good body, it had other major issues, or good maintenance but bad body. One, a GMC ( and happened to blue, and would blend with trailer) had a typo and was a 1995 and not a '99 AND had 220,00 miles but had been owned by a mechanic for a year. Sigh - My mechanic said no.
Being gun shy about rust ( midwest winters and salt) that factor was especially high as a concern.
Found several with good maintenance, one owner, replaced transmission ( a known suburban issue) and ready to go another 100,000 back in the winter but choices were fewer now. Looked for weeks this spring and found nothing decent to even look at. Then found three in succession which warranted a look see. Two in Green Bay a 200 + mile round trip, remember, I am in the boonies.
They were both 1999's with 118,00 and 148,000 miles. The lower mile one had only been owned privately for 1 year the other was at a dealer ( a trade swap with another dealer so no history).
The first one's A/C went out between first conversation and second so that was a no deal. Second would have been easiest transition as dealer would do all paperwork and give me $600 trade for my '93 ( making less tax) and a warranty for the drive train was available.
The third one ( highest mileage at 185,600) was the farthest. It was 350 miles away, way up in Copper County in the Kewanaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. Road trip?

BUT it had been a Nevada car and in Michigan for only 5 months! I knew I had to at least look at that car. If the frame was as good as the guy said the high mileage could be outweighed by the lack of rust.
So left last Wednesday test drove the dealer car on my way. It had more rust than mine, it's muffler/exhaust sounded like it was in the first little stage of going, the shift was very hard and had cargo doors with a blind spot and the hitch had awful rust flakes on the inside of the receiver.
The only really good thing was the radio did work AND got WGN from Chicago. I have not had a working radio for over ten years. lol

Got to my friend's house in eastern Upper Michigan that night about 8 my time. We got up at 4 my time, 5 her time and on the road about quarter to seven. I had never been west in the U.P. so all was new and interesting. No interstates all two lane but very little traffic. Hit snow squalls for and hour or so but no sticking. Saw mine areas and mine shafts, slag heaps, beaver lodges, Eagles, more mine shafts, mining museums. Would have loved to have stopped to play tourist.
Got to the guys apt. saw right away the bumper was a bit pulled at the corners. A cosmetic thing. It hit something square on center which brought the two sides out a bit. At the back it looks lik someone took giant forceps and pinched the rear fender in just ahead of the tail light. Even round dents, also cosmetic. Opened all the doors worked all the windows, etc.
Then got my towel out to lie on and got under the car. WOW!!!!! WOW WOW!!!! Parts of the frame still have factory undercoating, other parts look brand new. The most rust was a dusting, like if you killed a good cast iron pan washed it and let it air dry. It even still has paper labels on the frame!
I test drove it on the was to the service place I had lined up to check it out. I also asked them to test drive it. The mechanic ,Ron, and I went out leaving friend and seller at the shop. When Ron tried the four wheel drive it did not work. Oh-oh.

We then got it up on the rack. Saw two leaks right away. I knew where they were coming from and idea of repair cost on the one but not the other. Buyer had so no leaks, but he was only looking for ground spots. He has gravel so they would have been hard to see. One is either valve cover or oil pan gasket $250 or so. Other is some seal in transfer case $250-300 and would replace all four ( I think 4) gaskets in that if I did it. Wheel bearings good, might need ball joints in a year or so, suspension good, brakes good, but all in all ( except the 4 wheel not working) still good for the price. He is in the boonies too so not many buyers. Also has SS exhaust which should last forever and maybe a SS muffler. Called my mechanic told him all he said it was still a very good deal so It was a go.

THEN, the buyer decided he had to see why the 4-wheel didn't work, as he had used it all winter. He gets it in 4-wheel and CAN'T GET IT OUT!!! Ugh!!! that was a no deal as could not drive the 150 back to friends in 4-wheel.
Over two hours later, friend now napping back at apt., in my car, buyer and I are driving around, with him trying to get it back in two wheel drive. I call the service station and ask Ron if there is any way to manually release the hubs. he says no but if someone got underneath and tapped the transfer case hub motor while someone pushed the 2-wheel button it might work. Mush like tapping a bad starter to jar it pasts a bad spot. IT WORKED! Called Ron back and asked if it was " in" would it stay with no chance of slipping back into 4-wheel. He said I was good to go. It is now 14 minutes before the credit union closed ( they stayed open a half an hour late for us) I handed over the cashier's check and travelers checks ( got part in TC just in case I could get him down a bit on price, even though he said, on phone, $6000 was rock bottom) got a copy of the title faxed from the lien company in Utah, went back to buyer's apt and we hand wrote bill of sale, signed and witnessed by friend. Had wanted this all ready when we were at the credit union but his printer was broken, my friend forgot to print one for us and the CU guy had gone way out of his way already so did not want to ask him to print it. I had wanted to have it ready and have them notarize it.

There is a lot of trust between strangers in this deal. Title with lien release will be sent to me, I have the car at friend's in MI, 150 miles closer than buyers house, she drove it to her farm on his plate as we could not get temps with out original title getting home at 11 PM her time that night.
Next day I discovered that I wrote mileage wrong on bill of sale so made and add-on and sent to him to sign and return when I sent his plate back. He sent me the signed add-on mileage statement which I got yesterday and now I am waiting for the title.

    Whew are you tired yet?

The next few days I went to scrap and salvage yard to see what I could get for my car. Have estimates from $275 to 600 ish as scrap or parts. May put add on Craig's list to lsell in her area. Car runs well and could always be scraped for that 600 ish. Running as is, is worth at least $900-1000 even with issues. friend can ferry me around to do shifting of cars up there. My tires are better so will have to swap them too.

Anyway. I am now the owner (working on the proud part) of a 2001 GMC Yulkon XT SLT K2500 with NO RUST. Oh yeah, this one is a 3/4 ton. Another bonus. My mechanic said even with the leaks and 4-wheel drive out, the car was still a great price. Oh the lift window has a bad catch, think it is minor, I can still open the whole lift back. No blind spot in this one.

Only drawback is that it is bright RED! I will feel like a target. My friend said it drove like a dream and I will really like it. Ah well, me and not liking "change". I am sure I will get used to it eventually. Thank You MOM!

CASINO - Glad Pat is home again and doing better. Hope you are too.

MAUREEN - Glad you solved the mystery of your recent issue. Bored, yeah been there. Felling better but still can't "do".

SAM - How's the kitten? That tiny sounds like mom could have been moving litter and lost it or tossed this one out because it was sick.

KATIE - When i was in the apt in winter 08 the apt mate did worm farm so I learned a bit. That is so cool that you do it.

SHELLY - I am still here. Good luck on your upcoming knee thing.

AMBER - If kitten is tiny it should not be played with. Did you call all the vets and shelters to report it too? Have had kittens stolen from me because people just took and kept them.
Good glucosamine can be found without shellfish. you just have to look. Not all glucosamine is created equal. Fillers and binders keep some from working in some people. and a few people do not get any benefit. I think it is great but took me a while to learn that not all are the same. Look into MSM too.

GORDON - Guess you should have gotten x-rays sooner. Hope it heals.

GAYLE - Glad Lassie came home. That is the worst not knowing where your fur kid is.

NANCYG - Try holding a treat to get Zack to look at you while holding the camera and work up to shooting, not up to your eye but "from the hip" or.... Plus if he were at your height.....On couch and you sitting in chair would work. It would be a better framing too. The Penny avatar on Pottery board is one of about thirty pics I took to get that one good pose.

OH POTTIES - picked up a cute little yellow vase with a raised botanic pattern. It was a Mc Coy so I got it.

GAIL - worried during tornadoes but read enough to see you were OK. Do not know exactly who else is in that area.

    DON - Lovely pink pitcher.

  • Back from Illinois Chiro......lying low for a bit

CASINO - Best vibes going out for Pat.

  • Morning

I got the mega ball and one other number so I won a whole whopping $3. Net win of $1. Fifty percent return I believe.

I might get a couple of cups of gasoline with my winnings.

Today is first day of spring schedule. We are back to 5 boats I think. Tim my trail rider is coming today to visit. Too early to ride but he missed the horses and the dump. lol

I go to Illinois to Doctor on Monday for a few days. We had three inches of snow yesterday but non of the wind or rain that was due.

    Congrats BETH to you too.

  • I had a friend in MI buy me a couple of Mega tickets. I don't know I could get that ticket on the Island. We didn't used to have capability to getting some of the games due to the high speed thing.
Anyway..... She just read me the numbers. One of the tickets won me some money!

  • Hi Everyone.
Well my new used refurbished monitor died on Saturday. Poof, just went black. Told a friend what it had done. Turned out is was just a loss of video from computer to monitor. So after a pull the plug cold shut down, me in cold sweat from computer withdrawal, and a restart I am now good to go.

    First on agenda.
a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY! FURTIMA/ DIANE

Heard interview on weekend with author of book that sounds interesting. It is called "Another Man’s Treasure"
    Good article here.
    http://lakeforest.suntimes.com/entertainment/9858382-421/a-novel-way-to-get-organized.html

MYSTERYHORSE, DUPO - I looked up that horse extravaganza, Cavalia. There are tickets starting at $34.50. The RENDEZ-VOUS VIP PACKAGE is the higher end of the two special packages and that one is $189.50 for the matinee on weekends and $10.00 less on weekdays. The Rendevous include food, barn access, ( meet and greet? lol) and a Cavalia souvenir.
Ticket prices and seating chart here - http://www.cavalia.net/en/cavalia-show/tickets-info/st-louis-mo-usa/prices-and-seating-chart

VIP package info here - http://www.cavalia.net/en/cavalia-show/tickets-info/st-louis-mo-usa/vip-experience

When I went to ST. Louis to see the Lippizans, from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, the last time they were in the US, I vacillated on which ticket to buy. I decided that though I had been incredibly lucky to have seen the THE Spanish Riding School perform two of the previous three times they were in this country this might be my last chance and therefore I was going to do the top end ticket of $150. In the end, Mom gave me the ticket for my birthday.
I asked DEAD-HEAD, who lives in St. Louis, if she was going to go. She ended up going also and I stayed with her. We had front row seats and it was awesome. That was the time that I also met DUPO and her DH.

JIM - Thank you for the pictures. Sounds like a great trip. Isn't the space and the light just incredible up there? and the air is so clear etc etc. Don't know why I thought you were on a ship. Knew it was early in year for that.

  • Well, it WAS morning when I started this.

CASINOKAT - What a bummer. My best vibes to you and PAT. Thought of you the other day. Was watching storage wars wrap up round table discussion. They were asked what odd things they found. They mentioned urns with ashes. Remember that one we found at that big storage auction?

CAROL - Was thinking that myself ..... the question 'have you fallen recently?'. Definitely was not going to call 911. Been watching too many Hoarders shows to let strangers in right now. lol
Told a friend your chicken story. Wray's GS. Did not get where / how they got the chickens. She has five hens and all have names, but none are name JC.

AEG - You should look. It is really an interesting lump, in a bizare way. Especially knowing that the vultures didn't get me.

MYSTERY - I think I like the one of him asleep in Dad's arms a bit better. He is so relaxed. Wonder if his crossed leg pose is a family thing. A friend's child did a similar pose. Just like her dad's though she had never seen him sit that way . He was in the first gulf war and gone for months when she sat like that.
The foot drop thing had been much better the last year. It all stems from the very bad whiplash of whole spine back in 2007 when I was rear-ended at about 30MPH. The nerves have been healing slowly and foot thing is doing much better. But between the big boots and edges which had been under snow I got a bit cavalier in my walking, and it got me.

JIM - Exactly. Very annoying. I will ( have been) on high alert the past three days. Wearing shoes, not boots. LOL
Would love to read a play by play or your trip. What ship, where did you go what did you do. Love the trip Mom took us on in 1998. Small ship, Inland Passage saw much. Seems like yesterday.

JUNE - I got a questionnaire a few weeks ago. Told them I can't sit or do anything for any length of time. I never know how much I can do till I try it. If I have to stop or lie down now, I have to do it now. Not conducive to even attempting jury duty. Have not heard back.

DIANE - Thanks. I am OK with little rugs now. Early on they were a problem. Sorry your foot goes. It is a pain. to watch feet all the time. Here is more about DMSO if your interested.

    MORE DMSO INFO

To the best of my knowledge Dr. Jacob ( article below) was the first to research DMSO.

    DMSO: Many Uses, Much Controversy
"The history of DMSO as a pharmaceutical began in 1961, when Dr. Jacob was head of the organ transplant program at Oregon Health Sciences University. It all started when he first picked up a bottle of the colorless liquid. While investigating its potential as a preservative for organs, he quickly discovered that it penetrated the skin quickly and deeply without damaging it. He was intrigued. Thus began his lifelong investigation of the drug."
    FROM HERE
    http://www.dmso.org/articles/information/muir.htm

My first experience with DMSO was in the very early 1970's when my sister's dog had a tooth abcess that would not heal. It had opened on the outside of her face. Antibiotics would seem to heal then it would open again. We went through several courses of antibiotics without complete healing. The vet said lets try this new thing, DMSO, and see if it will help. It did. Swelling went down and it started to dry up, healed from inside out in just a few days and never reoccurred.
Years later I was given some for a horse problem. The the vets used it more and more for the horses and i finally just started keeping it on hand. Sometimes got it on me and I had no problem, though had been cautioned to not get it on my skin as it would be in my blood stream in seconds. Therefore had to be very clean,,,no lotions, chemicals etc in contact area.
That led to I trying it on me when I banged myself and was impressed. I bruise easily but if I got the DMSO on quickly, soon after whatever I had done, I could either stop the bruising or minimize it.
Obviously, I could only approximate the benefit because I was not going to deliberately give my self two identical 'bangs' then treat one but not the other. I just know my body and know how badly something would bruise based on previous incidents

I accidentaly did just that in the early 90's when I burned my hand on a sparkler that flared in a wind gust just as lit. It burned about 70 percent of my palm, the edges and backs of thumb and first two fingers and the back of my hand.
Blistering was instant. I got ice and then thought of the DMSO so used that too. The pain was intense but it lessened as the evening went on. Used the DMSO several times as before bed. The blister was down a bit by midnight-ish. When I woke the next morning the palm was flat and dry and pain free unless I really jabbed it ( yeah I am always testing).
Over the next couple of days the top layer of skin became papery and in 5-6 days that top skin had flaked off leaving new healthy skin underneath. Virtually no pain from the first few hours.

This is where it got interesting. The next morning I discovered that I had not gotten DMSO on all of the burned areas. The areas that I missed were not huge but were very blistered. Even though I then got DMSO on them, which reduced swelling a little, they went through a progression of breaking blisters, oozing, some infection then finally healing. It was about 3-4 weeks (maybe longer) before those missed spots had healed.

That really sold me on using DMSO for many injuries. DMSO can cause a burning feeling to the skin, some people are very sensitive to it and it causes ones breath to smell like oysters or garlic and it can also sweat out through pores so one's body may have DMSO odor. I will take that and the faster healing though.

I had an injured horse, with a badly wrench spine, who was on internal DMSO, through a somach tube, for several weeks. The whole barn smelled of DMSO but he healed and was rideable again in five months.

Now anything that could swell gets DMSO. If you can keep the swelling down, healing is faster, plain and simple. The pain relief is and added benefit.

  • PAULA - YEP. Think I thought I posted here but must have just been on Glass. This copy and paste of that. Figured that with winter grabby souled boots did not have quick enough recovery when drop foot caught. Foot did react but loose boot did not follow. Now wearing shoes, not boots! It happened at 7PM Monday night.

    Tuesday AM.
Typing with one eye. Can you believe it ….I fell again. That is three times in a week and a half. Ugh. Feet did their drop thing and I was not paying attention to them they caught and boom. They had been been pretty good so had been walking more normally.
Landed full force on my forehead on my wood pallets. Huge goose egg. I actually broke down and called someone. A friend who is one step below EMT came to see if eyes were reactive. I could see they were equal but not the reaction part. I had figured since swelling was outside the skull I was probably safe from close head injury BUT…
She made me call nurse direct line and they put me through to the on call provider. She concurred. I actually was wiling to go in to see her. anyway...That friend made me set alarm to phone her at two AM as a precaution. I did not want to sleep at her house.
Another friend was going to make me talk to her all night till I figured out what she was doing. Told her of the plan of 2 AM phone call and gave her #s to call if she was concerned. It is nice to have friends watching out for you.
Been icing and putting DMSO on it. Swelling went down dramatically and bruising is staying down too thanks to the DMSO.
This morning swelling had shifted lower and eye was swollen shut. Just now checked and swelling is moving downward.

Back to plan ”A where I will literally watch every step when I go feed. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Keeping sense of humor.

If you get grossed out by little scrapes then don’t look. If you find bumps and bruisies kind of fascinating and can tell the story behind each scar that you proudly bear then go for it.
Not the best picture of me though. LOL It did hurt like a mother, at first, but it really does not hurt now, unless it take a direct bump.

MYSTERY - AWWWW. All tuckered out.

  • Went out today. almost 70 degrees. Nice to have depth of field back. People were not sure whether to say what the heck happened or to pointedly ignore the brusing and swelling.
Friend has a dog with an infected something on its neck. I can not figure out what it could be. Helped her clean it and now trying to come up with a way so he soen't scrathc it. He is a golden and it is right at neck shoulder area.

MYSTERYHORSE - Meant to ask the other day. Were the GKids IN the parade or was that just their conveyance?

PAULA/CLEM - Perused your completed a bit more after I posted. Love those copper hats. Would have thought they would have sold. I have never heard of Prayer Lady. The little wood carving looks to be doing OK too.

DELORES/ PAULS- Thanks. Forehead took the brunt. It is very sore and dare say will be for a while. but only if it is touched. I am getting eyebrow back. LOL The DMSO makes huge difference in speed of healing. I think it looks like about a week old or older injury right now rather than just 49 hours. Graceful walking? Guess I do graceful falling. But I tell you those pics sure show all the wrinkles from years working outdoors. And the witch woman hair. omg.

Wednesday Morning 41 1/2 hours post fall
    http://i41.tinypic.com/34e3wpw.jpg
Swelling is continuing to difuse downward and sideways. Though I kind of like the no wrinkes in the taught forehead. Hmmm May have to think about botox....Naaah.

Wednesday evening 49 hours post fall

I am starting to get my eybrows back. Doesn't show well in the picture but I have a fine set of racoon eyes now.

The DMSO is amazing. Wish the medicos would research it to use for things like this. Works nicely on burns too. Guessing this looks more like a week plus old injury rather than just 2 days.

  • Morning - The eye is a bit less swollen today and I can see out of it with out prying it open. Continuing to document progression. Amazing how the DMSO can help the healing process.
    61 here already.

MYSTERYHORSE - Horses eat Poison Ivy too. Just don't pet their faces right after they have pigged out.
Was trying to get to your link but...whether I right click on it, or copy and paste it changes itself to this. http://agsci.psu.edu/news I can not figure out how to get to their (presuming) archives.
Have found much interesting news to peruse

PAULA - Went snooping to see your item for South America. Couldn't find one for that price. Was it not on ebay?

While looking saw your really neat ashtray from earlier in March. Think it is supposed to be shape of a steering wheel. I Iiked your tie in of collection areas could have added car collectors too.

As to cost of shipping. I have paid equal or more than price of book for shipping some books, back when I was buying. Just because I got a book for say only 5 or ten dollars did not mean I wanted to take a chance of it getting lost. 99.9% of time I used insured priority.

  • JUNE /DUPO - Roosters can crow any time they are awake. Sorry

If someone is having chickens for eggs they really don't need a rooster. Wonder if some don't know that. .... or maybe got one that wasn't sexed correctly

Then again maybe they think they will make their own baby chicks so get a cock.
So much easier to get day old or older chicks if you want chicks.

  • Morning

JUNE - I think it was AQUILTMAVEN and years ago, maybe DREAMDRESS did quilt stuff too.

  • Hi everyone - Just popping in to let you all know that I am alive. The Monitor finally went end of Feb. The fist banging had stopped helping so I went the Khrushchev route......banging it with my shoe. One time when I felt particularly agile I kicked it with my foot. LOL

Slowly I unearthed the area on and around the old monitor and determined that if I did not have to lift the monitor...just grasp it and hold it without bending or twisting...I could move it a few feet. That chore took about a week or so but finally got it done. Replaced with an old, but refurbished CRT type 14 inch Acer that one of my trail riders brought me last year. He will take my old one and see if he can fix it's loose connections or whatevers.
However, cleaning and moving the monitors triggered a nasty muscle spasm in neck/ shoulder/ back junction area...so no typing for me. Did read boards a bit but mostly zoned on muscle relaxants rotated heat packs and tried to not trigger a fresh spaz attack.

In desperation I went to the new chiropractor, up here, on Saturday. Do not like to go to new chiros as most are too hard and throw me out rather than help. She may have put a little something out but did help the spasm area. That left me feeling, not only like a limp dish rag, but a limp dish rag that was run over by a truck. lol Those who go to chiropractors may know that feeling well.
Did not wake up till NOON!! on Monday, Ten on Tuesday and today at 7:30, so looks like I am getting back to more normal wake time.

Just yesterday I had a flash of 'kind of normal'. Did not feel arm nerves grab me as much when I was feeding. Walking was a bit better...like more of a normal rhythm.

Oh yeah, during that time my foot dropped (from the nerve issues in the back)causing me to slide on ice and took me down. Kind of slow motion twisted, torked and jammed the joint then landed on knee, and pulled the muscles that go from knee up front of thighs ( quads?). Not wanting to be left out the other leg joined the slipped one and I ended up sort of sitting with legs under me and sideways a bit. Determined that nothing broke and was sore, but functional, so continued feeding and when I got to house lathered them up all with horse medicine (DMSO) which kept swelling almost nonexistent. They are just about back to normal.
It was nice to have and injury act normal. Hurt at first, then hurt a bit more the next day or so, then progress to feeling better each day and heal....unlike nerve injury that just keeps hurting forever.

Anyway ... Just letting you all know that I am OK.

Now playing catch-up on the catch-up stuff that I was already catching-up on previously. Totally clear right?

  • Got the monitor back for now. Will have to post fast ..... just in case. Managed to get my Sales Tax form done then paid it and the Business registration fee.

    Happy Birthday PAULA!!!

  • Still have a window.

Thank you for the offer Beth, but will decline at this time. I do have the spare sitting in my LR. Problem is the four years of stuff to move and then try to get to wires. I actually can see the small 14-15 inch screen better. Can not have neck looking up at all so monitor is below me and the small one is what works. I actually have a flat one, too, that was given to me and is just sitting here as i could not figure out how to make it be in a good position for my neck. Do not know what I will do when I can no longer get a small CRT type. ...give up the internet????

Wow, have had a usable window for over half an hour. lol

LLUDWIG - I got the whole story and it was a tearjerker. Will, at some point, write up my story of horse I rode through high school.

  • QUICK!!
Before my monitor implodes again. Got home PM Friday. Just before I left the monitor had been shrinking itself more times than not. When I got home it was mostly looking, at best, like a1/2 inch high by 9 inch long tongue depessor and at worse a white link across the midded. A few banging with fist and I got a wiggley image about 4- five inches high and managed to dial up get to the boards and do one message to a Pottery person, then poof. No boards, no checking weather , no email, no solitaire. Do not know why but right now have about 90 percent function so posting quickly and doing what I can.

I do have a back up monitor that a friend brought me but I still have four years of stuff on and around old one plus do not know if I caould even lift a monitor. Sooo... will slowly and methodicly remove 'stuff' and see if I can swap them at some point.

MONITOR JUST WNT AGAIN. A few taps and I can sort of see it.

Hmmm will see if I can copy and paste.

NOPe I couldn't but have it back again

POTTERY KATIE think CHAR has the K&O horse Thought it was you so that is why you got that one email I managed. Wasn't a post but message through board. Sort of read part of what you wrote on Friday after I amnged that message.
CHAR -One in really nice shape is valued at $400 in the second collecting metal horses book by Carolyn Martin. Think you should have mentioned in description original foiul label, the lasso / lariat/ the colored paintion on acents ...scarf/neckerchief, conchoes and leather strips etc. Good luck. I would get it at your price if I had any extra $$$.

Opps screen gone so can not see what I am typing. ahhh can see curos flash will wait and see if screen gets bigger and try to copy and paste. If not guess you li just think that I imploded too. lol

HA! got monitor back and signed in.

LLUDWIG - THANKS! Have copied story to email hope to read fully before monitor goes again.

GLASSIES - Saw piece of Opalessence at Mom's Home's thrift shop in the good section. 45$$ leaf shape about 8 inches long 6- 7 wide 3-4 high.

Got to post quickly before monitor goes poof again.

LOL this has taken about two and a half hours to get this far.

See you all later I hope.

  • Hi all. On thge'puter at Mom's resource center.

Start back to I TOMORROW. hOME Friday PM.

LLUDWIG - On the way to the resource center I stopped to chat with a friend of the family, who is also a resident here. The subject of Mardis Gras and King Cake came up. It wasn't five minutes later, that I saw your post on the board.
Later I walked down with Mom to the living room where there were offering complimentery wine or sparkling juice before dinner. Mom went to sit with same friend from earlier. Told here about reading your post. Ended going to computer room and printing it, and the part on the Fasnachts, for her. She used it for discussion during dinner and all thouroughly enjoyed learning. Thank you for continuing to give us food for thought.

IRENE - Saw at market yesterday a pear called Ya-Pear any coorelation between that and the upstairs kitty?

  • Hi all, I am down in Illinois at chiropractor. ....on awful, strange computer. see you all at end of week

BOB- I am so sorry that you lost Mamma Mia. Hang in there.

  • Morning

BOB - I ftat was an abcess make sure that it heals from inside out. They can heal over on outside then flare up and open up again. Cats abscesses can be tricky. it means you may have to keep opening the outside closure.
If it hurts that much to touch then sounds like she still has good infection inside. Her movement as to jumping onto things means nothing. It may have no bearing to the pain of the wound itself, like when you touch it. Usually when and abscess is truly healing, the pain to touch is almost nil.

MAUREEN - Glad you are getting to watch the Gods Must Be Crazy. I will see it someday.

  • BILL - Bet you were just winging it with your comment. How cool about the Eagles. I have not seen mine all winter.

    Pun Fest?

  • DIANE - Maybe he was playing chicken, or ran a fowl of the law or....

  • DIANE - Learned just last visit with the Ortho doc that there is an official thing called "Pain Fatigue". Knowing about it makes sense. Hurting all the time just makes you tired. I guess as it takes more effort to do anything.

  • Morning --- barely. by the time I finish typing it will be afternoon.

IRENE - I heard that National Procrastination Week has been postponed till April.

PATSY - Doesn't it feel good to be able to something, anything, for longer than you have been able to do that 'thing'? I remember when I went on the tramadol and could actually stand without agony for a few minutes. Every little bit of improvement is nice.

DIANE - Wish your could try something to help your energy level. I know the adrenal supplement really helped me. If it is not energy, but your knee issues, I have also heard recently of a new knee joint treatment that can be an alternative to joint replacement. It is some type of injection into the joint. I will see if I can find the info. For me the glucosamine works terrifically well. No joint pain or swelling if I bang my knees anymore. Just need to have those small motor skill nerves improve.

    On the horse name talk
Believe Dale Evans' horse was Buttermilk, not Buttercup.

  • DIANE - DIABLO A black and white overo pinto

  • LIL - New Mexico.. If you have the least little interest in UFO's the UFO Museum in Roswell was really neat. Then south of there (I didn't have enough time) is Carlsbad and Rioduso (sp?) Downs race tack.
In Arizona a Nat. Park or monument begins with a "C" interesting topography and cacti I did not make it there either but wanted to.
    S. California. Borrego Springs is where Mom and I stayed in the Borrego Desert in 1996. It is another park ...National (?), maybe state. Saw my only Road Runner and Anna's Hummingbird there and hired to see Elephant trees. My first and only time in that type of desert. Bought tons of Avacados at road side stands Mmmm good. Beware the choia (sp?) cactus. One 'jumped" and got Mom. Then there is the Salton Sea which is quite close. And the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway too but did that way back in '63.
You can take smaller roads from there (Borrego) over mountains through Julian to San Diego. At San Diego we stayed at a very nice complex for $59 a night ( regular $160) or so using Motor Club coupon. Did Old San Diego. Did not have time to go to out to the Coronado Hotel. Hit all the old Spanish Missons we could, too.

If there are quite a few National parks and Monuments you could get that Golden Eagle pass if they still have it available. It saved us tons of entrances fees but you probably already know about it.

  • Lillianna - Don't go far. Just got in from feeding and have to change back to shoes then I will give some thoughts.

  • HAPPY VALENTINE"S DAY

With the help of Teddy and Penny

    TEDDY

    A PENNY MEMORY
    http://accessdoorcounty.com/fwf/V-DAY-HEARTS.htm

I was surprised, this morning, when I was awakened by the sound of the town snow plow. Sure enough we were coated in white. We only got about two inches. Hardly warranted the plow gas but I guess they have to do it. It was pretty. Started melting a bit this afternoon. We may get a lot more tomorrow or or Thursday. They have been talking about the possibility for days now.

  • PATSY - House is done too. Last season now I think . Their choice, not canceled if I remember correctly.

  • JUNE - A Gifted Man, Is probably going to be canceled. I like it too. title could be better. Do not know if enough write in to CBS they would reconsider. Every Saturday they have a call in with a guy who 'knows all' about TV shows or can find out.

  • BOB - They still have the one in Iowa too? Who is running what?

  • Bill - I think I saw the Spike show a couple of ties Auction Kings sounds correct. I have to tape at Mom's summer house ( DVR) then set up VCR and tape from DVR to VHS and bring back to my house to watch. If I can hit a marathon it is good other wise it is back and forth tape set new show tape etc.
Changed to RG6 wire in the fall and now usually get CBS and PBS. I do like the CSIs and most of the CBS prime time. Do not like survivor or reality shows except sometimes Amazing Race. Can't stand the one that comes after BIG BANG. engagment something???

Back to the kitchen with tape of Friday from a week ago.

  • SAM - It bugged me to at the beginning so I just watched it for the knowledge I could gain, and to see all that cool stuff. I don't like it when they really low ball someone yet they have also gone out of their way to drive back and give someone a lot more money ($5000.00 more) when an item was worth MUCH more than they thought.

They do seem to have a passion for what they do. I have been with in a few miles of Le Claire, Iowa. If I get close again I may go to the shop.

  • BILL - I like pickers too but I just cringe when I hear him say "me 'n' frankie." I have a tape with 3 or 4 hours of pickers It may have the glass and the flow vlue. I will have to keep my eyes peeled. I tend to notice the horse related stuff. I used to be able to look at a shelf of books and recognize specific books from the color of binding and and the way the titles looked before I could even read the names.

As I have been working on my kitchen, I've been doing a little experiment. Which show is better to clean with, Hoarding: Buried Alive or American Pickers. LOL

SAM - I think Crusty works just fine.

  • Calling all dog lovers

Tonight and tomorrow night Westminster Kennel Club Dog show. it is on CNBS and USA channel on cable. 7 or 8 PM.

For those unfamiliar with this type of show the dogs compete by breed in various catagories, From the top of my head it is ... Puppy (may have different age sections), bitch (female), dog (male). the the winner of each of those goes head to head with the other breed winners to get BEST OF BREED. Then each overall BEST OF BREED winner goes into it's respective group to be judged against each breed's official standard, not against each other,as they can have very different shapes of dogs within a group. Not sure which group are tonight If memory serve the groups are Sporting, Non-sporting, Herding, Working, Terrier, Hound and Toy.
Four of the seven groups are tonight then tomorrow the last three groups and BEST IN SHOW from the winner of each group.

I know people often find dogs on a book cover, a knick knack, etched in glass glazed in pottery or in a sculpture. I remember times that people ask what kind of dog is this what do I call it?
Well now is a chance to see lots of different breed and learn to "guess" what is on your item.

  • STAMPHICK - Good to know that they can be made into something now. I know when I asked there was nothing they had come up with yest. Come to think of it it might have been 6 or 7 years ago when I inquired.

Comgatulations for to your DD on her published paper.

LLUDWIG - Thank you for the details on Swifty's new place. How nice that he will be home for a bit. .

MAUREEN - Glad to see you posting.

  • PATSY - Saw you recycle bags at grocery post.
    FWIW
I asked at the two big groceries down in Illinois ( wher Mom goes) what they did with their bags, from recycle bin.
I was curious to learn what one could recycle them into because I had always been told that they could not be morphed into a new use. They said they just had the bin there for "goodwill" and they just threw the bags in the garbage.

On another note. My Mom's retirement home has a huge project of crocheting the bags into non absorbent sleeping mats for the homeless.
They sort, size and flatten the bags. Next step is to cut them crosswise so they make loops. Others then chain the loops and roll them into big balls. The last step is to crochet them into the mats. They end up about 1-1 1/2 inches thick and maybe 24 inches wide.

    Back to the kitchen.

  • Morning - Cold and blowing. Don't have to go anywhere just going to be plugging along in the kitchen after heat packing the back again.

LLUDWIG - Thank you for the rundown on LLB. Hope he has a wonderful experience.

LILLIANNA - Way cool on the Condors. What are they up to now 100 or so in the wild? or is it not that many.

  • Hi everyone.
I got to and USED my oven Monday night. Have most cans / jars packets put 'somewhere' besides in bags on the floor. Got to the last section that I have not been able to get to for close to four years. Picked up a pile of storage lids that fell between two big fixtures about 2 1/2 years ago. They await washing. Long handled grabbers are such nice tools.

As to reading I acquired a few more of the Animal Ark series when I was off Island last month. I started Hamster In A Handbasket coming home on the ferry and now is sits till I go to Illinois again. They are like not too simple and have accuarate facts about the various animals that are featured. My sister sent me a couple that had horse themes and then I started getting the others. Must have 25 now.

FURTIMA - I see you got to use your rug cleaner. finally LOL

LILLIANNA - HI! Sorry I missed you.

LLUDWIG - I need to do the last two quizzes. Skimmed the one and probably will do badly, but maybe I will learn something.
I must have missed something about LLB moving to Vancouver. I read about the aptartment but did not see why he is moving.

Sure I am forgetting comments but I am sure you all will survive without them.

  • OMG! INCREDIBLE MOON RISE!!

If it hasn't yet come up where ever you are try to take a look. HUGE Orange -Yellow Has to be one of top ten moon rises of my life.

Saw it at about 5:30 Central time here. It was just over the horizon at that time. Tried to take picture but think I was too shakey.

  • AEG - Are you thinking of USED AND RARE? If memory serves, she may have brought another ebay friend with her too. I was not at that get together but was at one another time at The Pine Cone up near DeForest. Think it was the first time that I met you and you met Penny.
