Spent 3 hours in ER last evening due to the pain from Wed.'s fall. Saw among other things, a dead body being moved, a skinny old woman pushing a wheel chair for 2 hours, a fat woman throwing a screaming fit subdued by 4 brave men,and most of a motorcycle gang. They confirmed nothing broken, just bad painful bruising. Think it's some better today.

A week since anyone posted - I feel it's my duty to say something. Didn't get a lot done this week, but marked a couple things off the list. DS and I will make our annual visit to see if the Gulf is still there one day when we both are feeling well.
I urge you all to keep up with political events and to vote this fall. Our country is nearing it's expiration date. I only hope it's a bloodless revolution and all government programs doen't close down. On that cherry note I will say ligr is good at the moment and I wish it would just continue along. -

DS still experiencing dizzy, fainting spells with nausea/ I've really been worried because I count on home for so much.
A little rain here today - ornamental fruit trees blooming and fig tree has leafed out next door. We were afraid it had died, it was so bad looking at the end of last year. -

Hearst owned the weekly that I worked for in Texas. It also was found4ed in the 1800s and continuously in operation, the only thing that saved it to that point. Not sure if they even publish a paper paper anymore - or just have the on line one in conjunction with a newspaper in the next largest cuty, Newspaper business along with the book business has totally changed. Also movies I would say. Computers have done a lot of good, but we also lost some of the human touch.

Not a great week, but getting better. From now to the end of the month should be fairly warm. I expect to see signs of spring. My favorite time of the year, and I always look forward to the first flowers and getting my patio set up with blooming plants. The wrought iron on the front small porch needs touching up. I may try to do that this year. Used a brush last time and scraped all the peeling paint off, so shruld be able to just spray this time. If DS doesn't take over. He doesn't get that I enjoy these little projects, even if they take me torever now. Don't have any genealogy project - anyone have something they'd like to know about their family? No charge and I don't keep the records once I've finished.

Patsy, sorry for the knee trouble - be sure and update us.
Gray day here, rained in the night. I know because I was awake.
I have a new "talking" scale. Announces your exact weight in a rather loud, course female voice. But it had gotten to the point I couldn't see the reading on the really old scale I was using. I weigh every Mon am. Happy to report right where it should be this am.
DS had to get a new phone - something went really wrong with his. He was happy to find the cloud had saved all his numbers and most vital info. He lost photos and music. Fortunately he had transferred most photos to one of his computers. He spent all day talking to the phone, sometimes not so politely. -
Interesting, Jim.

I have this thought of a small tree with pinecones and acorn decorations, so I picked out those and packed where I know today where they are. Will I know it next Dec? My brother in N. AL was iced in for days. He has a handicapped ramp and it was a sheet of ice.

Oddly snough, a man I worked at the TV station with and knew well, Howell Raines, was the editor on that NYC story. The young black reporter was his protege, and he was completely taken in. I'm having all kinds of trouble with bank and credit cards. Evidently had a fradulent charge and now they keep turning down purchases. I've been to bank once, and today had to deal with a utility account. No fun.

Almost done with my Christmas tree. Made good progress last night. Don't know if it's the damp or cold, but have had a lot of aches and pains. Watching Hallmark movies, so have been able to generate some Christmas spirit. Neighbor has a giant blow up Santa and a grinch about half that size - along with his normal bouncy house. Never did get a good photo of those giant ornaments on the house on the corner - one blew down during that bad storm a few days ago. She hasn't replaced it, so DS and I are assuming it broke. Haven't looked yet where you can buy these, but I'm going to. Be well and enjoy the holidays, all.

June, I often lay about until late in the morning, but up early yesterday and today.
Got one crate of ornements put on the tree, one to go. Wreath hung on the door. Ilove all my old ornaments. Christmas dinner is planned, and I will order what I don't have in the next two weeks. We are expecting carpenter this week or next to repair some of the termite damage.
Tired of turkey. -
Ann - the tree is prelighted and DS unfolds it for me. If it takes me a week to put garland and ornaments no one will care. I think I've got some holiday spirit. So this weekend we will begin.
Good day, bad day seems to be the norm here.
Sunny and cool.
Masking cornbread today and maybe a pie if energy holds up. Makes it easier for tomorrows cooking. DS is amoking a small turkey breast. I've already decided I'm having shrimp for Christmas - had thought about ham, but we always have too much left, even from the msallest I can get.

Under the weather a couple days. nit tpday is a better day. already have done my chore for today, and supper is under control. Think I have all I need for Thanksgiving. Will be quiet, just me and DS. DGD is going to her mother's 2nd home in Texas. No one lives there 90% of the time. My daughter in Brooklyn usually finds at least one homeless person to feed, and my daughter in S. Fla. has her son with her. My cousin who visited a couple weeks ago and his wife are back in TN. so everyone is accounted for. Feeling good today - back to eye dr for shots on Tues. I'm up to 10 weeks between visits. Looking forward to spacing it out for 6 mos.
Going to try to put up Christmas tree this year. Really missed it last year, but just was not physically or mentally able. I have so many old ornaments that I love. There are already some decorations out in my neighborhood. Rushing it a little. I think people find Christmas a healing season and so in times like these need the season to last longer. -

My old house p[robably started out like the bottom photo in Jim's post, except the chimney was in the middle and a fireplace opened onto the dog trot and the front room on right. The guy lookiing at the old place wants to make a nice camp house on the river. His current house burned down in the recent Texas fires. Of course, all decisions are my sons - I sold the property to him when I left Texas in 2003. \
New misrowave came today - old one was spitting fire. Stop and start are reversed - will make for some cussing I guess.

Yes Southern design. Two rooms on each side, longer one one side for kitchen sometimes, porch across front and maybe one side, open in the middle front to back, for the dogs to trot through. Mine was closed in, badly remodeled in the late 60s.Built of heart of oak and pine in 1905.

Chilly here. Moved my patio plants against the house, just in time. Two or three days and it gets warmer usually. Neighbor had a huge bouncy house for Halloween, and fed BBQ to the neighborhood. He does something like this twice a year. He's a lay minister and a good man.
I liked the bridegrooms family, all 4 grandparents were there - our Carla seems to fit in with them just fine. Her family is ,much more sparse and scattered.
There's interest in buying my old dog trot house, which has been empty for 20 years and worse for wear. I hope my son sells it. The land it sits on is worth a great deal without the house.
Carpenter coming today to look at some of the termite damage to window frames. -

Back from wedding trip. I made thje long drive better than I expected, no problems. But I had given it a lot of thought and was prespared. The wedding had the traditional white dress, white suit, but was not entirely traditional. The vows were especially well written and emotional. If they can only keep to them. His family was large , parents, 2 dsets of grandparents, 2 bros., uncles, etc. They were eowdily damcing when we left. DS ex was therem, and she behaved herself with him, and was helpful to me. The food was varied, and very good.I actually enjoyed it, can you believe. And it was good to see DGD so happy - maybe the happiest I've seen her. Her three bnest friends from childjood were her bridesmaids. Now to get things back to back to normal.

So, I'm cleaning my bedroom - work 10 minutes, rest 1 hr. Bedside lamp had to be rewired - it's 1940's and had been redone once, I know. But that was over 20 years ago. We have a small amount of termite damage to window trim that will have to be repaired. AFter my little trip in Oct. will try to take care of that. I've decided to get one tub of those raised beds and grow tomatos and zuccini, next spring. Should be much more trouble than a flower pot once you get the dirt in it, and things planted. I figure 6 tomato plants and wire holders, and zuccini underneath. The one I'm looking at has wheels, so it's possible I could let the patio roof run off do most of the watering.
Not wanting to do a whole day's drive, and stay in motel 2 nights. Promised DGD that I'd be there and DS is adamant that I can't stay home alone. I have had no falls, and no physical problems that cause emergeny treatment. I'd love 2 days on my own.
Still have a few things I need to sell. Some will have to be picked up locally, because I'm not mailing glass.
Everyday is a challange - guess you all are facing the same. -

June, when I had the bookstore I sold a used large print Cussler, can't remember the name, but might have been his first, for about $45. Imagine my surprise when I got a $250 payment and the buyer said that was more like what it was worth. After that I watched for Cussler, but found no more valuables. In fact they seldom came into the stoore, people keep their copies. Book people are honest.

Jim: Groceries have continued to rise in price for nearly 3 years. The only reasonable buys are fresh produce and fruit. And yes, a nice rib eye has gone up in price from high teens to over $20. 24 case of Pepsi, went from $9 to $12 - but recently dropped back to $10 something - maybe that's a good sign. Also availability is an issue. Of 20 items in my last order, 6 were substituted - out of stock.

There has been a lot of notice and attention given to the fact that fireworks are illegal in the city limits, and I think people took it seriously. Across the street a mew family had a giant bouncy castle with slide and pool which attracted children during the day. But the small children went to bed eaerly, so noice from there either. Hope all of you had a good fourth. DS made ribs on the grill, so we had a traditional meal.

I find it amazing what quality of pictures the cell phone can take. I'm sorry digital ruined the film business, but it is more convenient and you don't have to have any knowledge to do snapshot. I still have physical prints made of some photos and put them in an album. And I do back up my photo files on a thumb drive. Lost all the pictures once - learned that lesson.

The book seller have dwindled, and very few are actually still selling books. We've all aged and lives have changed. Still, I'd hate to lose touch I don't post a lot, but do check this board every day.

The guys came and treated for termites on Thurs. They seem to be active n only one spot, and the damage is so light, it doesn't need immediate repair. We are having afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy rain. They don't last long, but come up suddenly. Managing to get in my walk between pourdowns.

Dealing with termites here. Doing my little walk 4 days a week - it's helping. Also trying something new for me in the diabetes department which is also heloing. Have been able to cut back on insulin this week. That's encouraging.
My youngest daughter turned 60 yesterday. Making me feel old. -

Took a short walk this evening and the mockingbird who lives nearby sang to me all the way down the street and back again. It was a little warmer than it has been, but still pleasant. Managed to cook a fork tender, tasteful chuck roast for the first time in ages. Enjoyed a late sandwich as a snack.

Broke my upper denture on Mon, and picked up the new one today. Gonna need a couple adjustments I think, but looks okay. Hate dealing with stuff like that - reg, Dr and eye Dr are enough to worry with.

Been out and about most of today. Had a dental emergency to take care which has been resolved more easily than I expected. DS and I rode to the Palafox Pier to see huge three masted schooner, Juan Sebastian Elcano, Navy training ship. Well worth the trip!

About 10 years ago I reconnected with 3 fist cousins on my Dad's side. I hadn't seen any of them since I was a teenager and they were children. This has proved to be some close relationships and they mean a lot to me. They remember my grandparents and uncles. I am the oldest so I've been able to tell them family history and what I remember of their mom and Dads. From two differnt families, and aunt and an uncle.
Tryin to get Cave of the Bear, Hillerman's latest. I suspect I'll be able to read her books a second or third time, as I have her Dad's.

My brother and I are talked out. He does seem to be improving the use of his replaced knee - but he moans and complains an awful lot, while he is regularly swallowing pain pills. I can't understand how he could feel any pain at all. But all in all we've had a good visit. I expect him to go home on Tues. Ds may contact an old friend in Bham and spend the night there. It is odd having a third person in the house - DS and I are so used to our apace.
