Sandy, (@bookbase)
I'm posting this from my iPad, so my best guess for what you need to do is to go to Settings -> Safari -> Clear History and Website Data, and then log back into the book board. Let me know if this doesn't help.

@bookbase Sandy, Inviting that family to share your home is a real gesture of caring. Good for you.
I read that there are may individuals giving of themselves in an effort to help. Read about one case of 2 ladies who were walking the side walks in one of the areas. Each was offering food or water to anyone who needed it from their supply which they were carrying on pull along suitcases. -
Well our photos are no longer showing on ebay. The gallery pix (the one at the top of the page) still show, but the ones in the main body of our description are down. At first I thought it was because two the listings were very old and that something was amiss. Swifty then informed me that the subasement where his server is located in Albany is underwater and that is why we had no pixs. Sounds like a reason for me to call it a day off! LOL Not really I could still write descriptions and DH could upload and have lots ready to go when things get back to normal.
The photos of snow in Virginia and West Virginia are something, esp for this time of the year. From what I understand a cold front moved in from the west and met up with the rains turning the rain into snow. Then the low pressure system that moved in wrapped itself around the hurricane. Name has been changed from hurricane to cyclone!
@bethofvt ~ Congratulations on your roll-over! Found out that some of those power company trucks might have been for PA. The ones crossing the state line into NJ were obviously going elsewhere, but the ones I saw closer to home could have been headed to Phila or Allentown. Later I heard our governor announce that crews were being sent from other states to help in PA. Just locally we have a lot of downed lines - mostly the result of trees falling on them.
@treasuremom ~ I remember that! Lots of babies born 9 months later! Glad to hear about how great your nephew was treated. It is esp. a tribute to New Yorkers who always get such a bad rap. A crisis seems to bring out either the best or worst in people. Wow, never thought about the key cards or not being allowed into the hotel. I hope this time around hotels would learned from history and have printed out hardcopy so that they could verify at the door that you had a reservation there. At least that way they could be in the lobby and if a larger hotel the bar and restaurant and meeting rooms. As I mentioned earlier, Swifty knows a lot more people from his floor and in his building now since they all gathered in the lobby. As far as a party atmosphere, Swifty said that all of his friends were posting on facebook that they were going out to get hurricane supplies - at the liquor store!
@mysteryhorse & @justmim ~ Thanks, very much appreciated. Never know if one is talking to the wind or not. I know I am not good at commenting on each and every post but I do try to acknowledge people in a positive way when I have time.
mysteryhorse The waves on Lake Michigan were huge. I couldn't believe it when I saw people out surfing!
@collectibles4utwo ~ A belated Happy Birthday!
@bookbase ~ I was thinking of your cottage too, but then I remembered what you said last year and seeing the pixs. Yeah, trees falling are the biggest concern. hahaha re: Seems funny to see my name mentioned so often and the good thing is that those posts carry nice thoughts and words! 😉 Wouldn't want it the opposite way!
@salmegal ~ So nice to hear from you! Thanks for the update. Wish you would stop in more often.
@stamphick ~ Wow, had not heard that one. Can't wait to tell DH and Swifty or are you pulling our collective legs? Have you heard from you DD? I forget the timetable. Is she on her great adventure?
@lookwhatbobfound ~ Sorry to hear about your nephew, wife and the baby! Hopefully they can get to a shelter.
@dianecox ~ I know how much you enjoy opera and thought you would be interested to know that my younger son in Vancouver went to see his first opera this past Sunday. I am looking forward to chatting with him next week to see what he thought. He lives 3 blocks from the Arts Center so thought he would give opera a try. He was going to see La Boheme. When I asked him if he knew what it was about or had he looked it up so that he knew, he replied, " 'Rent' is based on it, so yes I have an idea of what it is about."
Oh @dolores1953 that is so sweet of you to say!

@bookbase Sandy ---Glad to hear that you are safe and back in operation. I hope it stays that way for you. Fortunately for me I have never had to live through a really serious disaster situation. We had many typhoons blow through while we lived in the Philippines but our housing was constructed knowing that those storms came round 3-4 times every year. I feel very sorry for those who are less fortunate.
In checking my ads it looks like many are with out gallery pics and maybe more. Wonder if the weather disaster is affecting the pics. -
A very early Good Morning from Penn's Woods where the rains have not yet started.
And yes, another long one so scroll if you don't like long ones. Except for a short post recently that received no comment, haven't posted since not much to say one way or the other.
We were planning on going to see Swifty in New York City today but changed our plans in light of Sandy. We went yesterday instead. Overcast the entire way and then just before we crossed the bridge into NYC, the sun was shinning and the skyline was glowing. DH put shelves in a very narrow broom closet in Swifty's kitchen. Truly a broom closet as that is about all that fits, a broom, a mop, and a bucket. It is a good thing that DH is slender because he never would have fit otherwise. Not even wide enough to turn around in. The shelves turn it into a mini-pantry instead of an ugly broom closet. Gives Swifty a place to store canned goods and the like. We told him that just the addition of the shelves should increase the value of his place by $5,000! LOL DH also cut off the closet doors in the hallway so that they would clear the rug runner. That floor must be sloped because one cleared nicely while the other didn't quite open the whole way. Something else on the 'not quite' finished list now. Still some other projects to do.
We took along the beautiful slab walnut coffee table that DH made for him. DH worked for many hours on it. Still some of the slab walnut left for a coffee table for LLB. Also took some large plants and plant stands. Swifty wanted some plants but a lot cheaper to buy here. He is really settling in and making this truly a home. No more moving every year or two.
Swifty was funny when I called him an hour before we were to arrive. Usually we call him about 1/2 before to make sure he is up, but he wanted an hour notice this time. When I asked if I woke him, he said no, that ConEd had already called much earlier to say if there was flooding the electric would be turned off. I am afraid that New Yorkers might be a bit jaded about the storm. The doorman sounded exactly like my son! "Oh, they said all of this last year and nothing happened." Since Swifty's place is a block or so from the East River there might be some flooding along the river, but the ground then goes up hill a little bit to where he is on the 9th floor. Swifty's flashlight doesn't work but he was unconcerned. He has a candle and said that in a place as small as his, it is not hard to find his way to the bathroom even in dark! When I mentioned reading by flashlight, he said that if he had no power he would just go to bed or if he wanted to read, he had a kindle and other tech things that don't need electric. Oh what a different world when reading by flashlight is in the dark ages! LOL
He did mention that if the power does go out for an extended period of time it will really put a crimp in the economy. While many places do have back-up generators, that doesn't mean everything would be business as usual. Heck, if the subways are shut down, people couldn't even get to work. He had received an email from the company where his company's servers are located outlining measures they are taking should 'the lights go out.' He forwarded it to the upstate company (guy he knows) asking why he had not received a similar email about where his personal servers are located. Within minutes, his friend shot him back the identical email with only the company name changed!
We ate 'brunch' at what is fast becoming our favorite place which @bookleaves (Ellen) had recommended on our first trip to Swifty's new place. It is only about 2 blocks from him and a nice Irish bar/restaurant. Once of those place where "George Washington" ate here, but only on the site. The original building burned down a long time ago. Swifty has gone back several times since he really likes the beer they brew there. DH was going to order the Shepard's Pie but when the Irish waitress (from Galway) said that the Number 1 favorite was the Colonial Chicken Pot pie, he switched. Next time we go, I am ordering that! Such a light flaky crust and so tasty. Very different and much better imo than the traditional PA Dutch Chicken Pot Pie that is common around here. Interestingly, the waitress (who also had spent one summer during college working in Chicago) had recently been to Hershey and Lancaster with her aunt and uncle. She was disappointed in the whole hyped "Amish" stuff. Many, many years ago when I was visiting Maine and talking to the waitress she said that she was planning on a trip to Lancaster the next month to see the Amish.
This trip we had the easiest time in traveling both ways - in and out, but esp. out. Usually it takes awhile but this was so smooth. We must have hit it at the right time. When we were leaving we saw that the signs for "State of Emergency" were already lit up.
@bookbase ~ Sandy On the way home just as we were crossing the state line from NJ into PA, there was a convoy of power company trucks on the other side of the road. Thought of you and how prepared the power companies are and helping each other out. When we got to Hershey saw another convoy of about 20 power company trucks heading in the opposite direction. One crew might be going to NJ and the other to NYC. Seeing them reminded me of my youngest uncle who retired from a power company several years ago. He had been sent to help out in New England when that brutal ice storm blanketed the East Coast and Canada. I think that was sometime in the '90s. He had remarked that he hoped he would never be sent on such a mission again. While I have always appreciated the work that is done by linemen and similar, but it did give me pause yesterday. People sit at home moaning and groaning about the lack of power and/or heat and/or water, but at least they are inside...or if summer heat, at least they are not out in the elements. Not only was I thankful that he was retired, but I really hoped that the 'younger guys' were the ones being sent and the older ones were left at home manning their own power company's needs.
@lovetohike ~ Irene Is Curt planning a trip back home to his old stompping grounds this week? He might need a canoe again! 😉
Well took me forever to write this and still no raindrops falling on my head...

Good Morning from Penn's Woods,
@bookbase ~ Hi Sandy! So great that you got to spend time with your DD! Our children might have crossed paths in space as one was flying to the East coast and the other to the West coast! Enjoy the rest of your stay. Rain or no rain, your cottage on LI is a great place to be. I was just thinking about you yesterday. Swifty emailed me while he was waiting for his flight from Vancouver after visiting with his brother to say that he would be going to the Hamptons this weekend instead of coming home. I'm looking forward to hearing what kind of place he stayed at in the Hamptons. LOL
In a week or two we will be making the trek to NYC to take the rugs he bought here and also the coffee table his dad is making out of a slab of walnut - the kind that has the natural curves on the edges etc. It's a smaller version of the one that we have.

@bookbase ~ Sandy, I finally caught up with the postings from when I was on vacation. I saw your post about pixs of your beach house on facebook, but when I went there this morning I couldn't find them. Did you take them down. BTW your DD is beautiful and your DH is handsome!
Going to the grocery store just isn't a priority when the fate of a fictional character is hanging in the balance.

@bookbase ~ Oh and on the 'forgetting' the once a month pill. That is exactly what my doctor told me when I said if I couldn't get the IV then I wanted the monthly pill. He said a lot of people forget. gee, isn't that what a calendar is for?? I figured I would just do on the first of the month every month and mark it on the calendar and then when I flip the one on my kitchen wall, I would see it. But I suppose if one uses a 'weekly' pill box, then it would be there as a reminder.

Back from the Farmer's Market where among other things I bought more green tomatoes! Saw another vendor that had them. Next year I will be trying that topsy turvy tomato grower than bethofvt uses and says it is great. That way I can pick my own green tomatoes plus buy more at the farmer's market! I really need to go to the Farmer's Market earlier in the day. Not only is is cooler in the hot parking lot but the Amish stand where the corn is picked in the morning was sold out! Next Tuesday I will make it my mission to be there soon after it opens!
@bookbase Perhaps you would know this given your background. I used to take vitamins any old time of day, including the prescribed Vit D and the 2 doses of Calicum with D. Then I read that for the vitamins to be absorbed one was supposed to take them when one ate. I read the bottles and sure enough that is what they say to take with meals. DH thinks it is just a CYA type of thing that the companies put on in case people get upset stomachs etc. Doesn't really matter anymore since I do take them with meals now but I wonder about that. Not only vitamins but other meds too will have the "take with food" and if that is for the absorbtion or so that one doesn't get an upset stomach. The other thing is that until recently I used to pop 2 of the calicum pills at one time so that I wouldn't forget but now I've read that one should not do that and that for the best benefit the body should be receiving a 'steady' dose so to speak. I did recently see that Citracal came out with an "extended release" so that one only had to take one a day to get the full dose. I just buy whatever is on special but after reading that I may compare prices and see how much more expensive it is to switch to Citracal ER.

@bookbase ~ I've been thinking about you at your LI cottage and the sand and water and puttering around. Thanks for the info about The Help on 20/20 last night. I've not yet watched that part of the segment. The first part was about Jaycee Dugard and how much Horse Therapy helped her in the last two years to readjust and learn to trust. She now has a foundation that centers around Horse and Animal therapy. Most likely wellingtonct & mysteryhorse will be interested to know the profound impact that Horse therapy had on Jaycee Dugard and giving her life back to her. Got a tear in my eye when the mother was singing her DD favorite song from her childhood and came to the line "please don't take my sunshine away..."
I feel the same about seeing the movie The Help. The book was so great that it would be terrible if the movie didn't do it justice. One of the reasons we don't go to movies very often is that I walk out and say "that was a waste of a lot of money." I don't mind if I am watching them on DVD and they are just ok but to have paid for movie tickets for the two of us! I hope this doesn't fall into the double whammy category of not only not being worth the ticket price but even worse making a mess of the book. I'm ever hopeful however. After all GWTW was a great book and great movie!
