@stamphick Please keep the BB posted on what you know about the situation of that group. I surely hope they and other groups are safe.

@stamphick Really!!! I doubt that . Sort of reminds me of a book selling incident. I had a lady from Tennessee who kept having me buy books and have them shipped to her. There was no problem about payment as she always sent a check and very promptly. I kept trying to find out why she would not order for herself. I suggested that she call or send the seller a request to hold the book until he received the check that she would send.
Finally she told me that she did not want to put her credit card information on-line. I got kind of huffy and suggested that she was one of those 'conservatives' who would protect them selves but it would be O.K for her to hang me out to dry. I never heard from her again. -
@stamphick ~ David Please tell Karen that I just said the novena prayer of St. Jude and invoked her name. While he is commonly known as the patron saint of hopeless causes, less well known is that you call upon him in desperate situations.

@judye ~ Jude I stand corrected by DH. Although Swifty does have two personal servers in Albany, he has not yet transferred the data to those. The one that we are on and other clients of his is located in the Financial District of NYC. He was very disappointed when they went down. The diesel or whatever is located in the basement and that was flooded and caused the disruption of service. DH said that he has had those other two servers in Albany for nearly a year but just hasn't gotten around to transferring everything. DH thinks this might give him a push to do it now. I was confused about the servers being down because flooding in Albany but thought maybe the building was near a river or something. Not that my being incorrect about where his current active servers really matters but just wanted to clear that up.
@stamphick ~ David Oh my. Please tell Karen that prayers are being sent her way. Violent thunderstorms are bad enough, but militias fighting nearby by is downright scary and horrible. Many, many prayers for her.

Good Afternoon from another overcast day in Penn's Woods. The weekend is to be pleasant however!
Update on Swifty: Yesterday afternoon he called and said that he was packing a few things and going to Brooklyn to stay with a friend. I think the 'adventure' of no lights has worn thin. On Friday he is to fly out to San Diego for a long weekend visiting a friend who is in his third year of law school there. By the time he gets back maybe his building will have electric again. His company sent out emails today to all their customers telling them that although the offices were closed that orders could still be taken and processed. Also said they had people working from their homes so that if they had questions and wanted to email or call, that was possible.
DH's brother, who lives outside of Boston, called and said that a tree came down in the yard of his housemate (ex-SO) and crushed her car. If it had happened 25 minutes later he would have been home from work and both of their cars would have been crushed.
@clementine30 ~ Paula Correct. Swifty is in the Old Cotton Exchange Building. No water got into the lobby etc. The water only reached to 1/2 block from his building, right before edge of the small British Memorial Garden in front of his building. He said that garden has never washed away in any flooding. He also mentioned that even if waters got to t he sidewalk in from of his building it would still have about 8 steps outside to get into the building and then another 8 steps up before getting into the lobby. Across the side street is the India House which was the even older Cotton Exchange House. Upstairs (main level) is now a fancy restaurant and downstairs (basement level with windows) is Harry's Bar. For whatever reason, I had heard of that place and have wanted to go but we were always there on a Sunday when it was closed. I guess it is quite pricey so don't want to go when DH has been working all day in the apt. From what Swifty said, the residents in his building were all concerned about Harry's Bar getting flooded. I suspect it did.
@treasuremomz Sam Yes, it is good to get out and met 'live people.'! LOL The first company that Swifty worked for was very small - 12 male geeks and 1 female office manager. He wanted to start out with a very small company and his plan was then to move on in 2 or so years. He was ready to get out and I am glad he is now with a mid-size company that is much more diverse in all ways. Better opportunity to meet more people. One of the great things is that the founders of the company were he is now want their employees to have fun as long as the work gets done. Less of the slavedriven enviroment that he was in before. However he made out like a bandit when that company was bought out!
@judye ~ Jude My son's personal servers were located in Albany but the company he works for has them in NYC. His personal servers are back up and running as of early this morning. Not only had pixs in my descriptions but I had forgotten about our direct email. It appears that all the ones that were sent yesterday are GWTW. However, the local TV news emails that I receive morning and afternoon updates hasn't sent out anything since the 29th so I am guessing that whereever their servers are located are not able to send them.
@stamphick ~ David Thanks for the update on your DD. Please do try to remember to do one now and then. I think that I am not the only one interested in hearing about her trip to the Congo. hahah that is so typical you to say that about her at the coffee shop and it not looking primitive to you!

Well our photos are no longer showing on ebay. The gallery pix (the one at the top of the page) still show, but the ones in the main body of our description are down. At first I thought it was because two the listings were very old and that something was amiss. Swifty then informed me that the subasement where his server is located in Albany is underwater and that is why we had no pixs. Sounds like a reason for me to call it a day off! LOL Not really I could still write descriptions and DH could upload and have lots ready to go when things get back to normal.
The photos of snow in Virginia and West Virginia are something, esp for this time of the year. From what I understand a cold front moved in from the west and met up with the rains turning the rain into snow. Then the low pressure system that moved in wrapped itself around the hurricane. Name has been changed from hurricane to cyclone!
@bethofvt ~ Congratulations on your roll-over! Found out that some of those power company trucks might have been for PA. The ones crossing the state line into NJ were obviously going elsewhere, but the ones I saw closer to home could have been headed to Phila or Allentown. Later I heard our governor announce that crews were being sent from other states to help in PA. Just locally we have a lot of downed lines - mostly the result of trees falling on them.
@treasuremom ~ I remember that! Lots of babies born 9 months later! Glad to hear about how great your nephew was treated. It is esp. a tribute to New Yorkers who always get such a bad rap. A crisis seems to bring out either the best or worst in people. Wow, never thought about the key cards or not being allowed into the hotel. I hope this time around hotels would learned from history and have printed out hardcopy so that they could verify at the door that you had a reservation there. At least that way they could be in the lobby and if a larger hotel the bar and restaurant and meeting rooms. As I mentioned earlier, Swifty knows a lot more people from his floor and in his building now since they all gathered in the lobby. As far as a party atmosphere, Swifty said that all of his friends were posting on facebook that they were going out to get hurricane supplies - at the liquor store!
@mysteryhorse & @justmim ~ Thanks, very much appreciated. Never know if one is talking to the wind or not. I know I am not good at commenting on each and every post but I do try to acknowledge people in a positive way when I have time.
mysteryhorse The waves on Lake Michigan were huge. I couldn't believe it when I saw people out surfing!
@collectibles4utwo ~ A belated Happy Birthday!
@bookbase ~ I was thinking of your cottage too, but then I remembered what you said last year and seeing the pixs. Yeah, trees falling are the biggest concern. hahaha re: Seems funny to see my name mentioned so often and the good thing is that those posts carry nice thoughts and words! 😉 Wouldn't want it the opposite way!
@salmegal ~ So nice to hear from you! Thanks for the update. Wish you would stop in more often.
@stamphick ~ Wow, had not heard that one. Can't wait to tell DH and Swifty or are you pulling our collective legs? Have you heard from you DD? I forget the timetable. Is she on her great adventure?
@lookwhatbobfound ~ Sorry to hear about your nephew, wife and the baby! Hopefully they can get to a shelter.
@dianecox ~ I know how much you enjoy opera and thought you would be interested to know that my younger son in Vancouver went to see his first opera this past Sunday. I am looking forward to chatting with him next week to see what he thought. He lives 3 blocks from the Arts Center so thought he would give opera a try. He was going to see La Boheme. When I asked him if he knew what it was about or had he looked it up so that he knew, he replied, " 'Rent' is based on it, so yes I have an idea of what it is about."
Oh @dolores1953 that is so sweet of you to say!

@stamphick Thanks for finding that . I knew that it could be done but just wasn't getting there.

@stamphick --- I don't know about that. The author of this book , Rodello Hunter , eventually left Provo , Utah for a job in Utah before she found time to write.
But , OTOH , I suspect that the Mormon men were very good at getting the women to teach the many classes and supervise the dozens of other activities which they performed for the church. Maybe they learned that from we Methodists. I think I might have to buy the full version of her other 2 books " A House of Many Rooms" and Wyoming Wife."
My current book is " West of Kabul, East of New York an Afghan American Story" by Tamim Ansary. It, too, is a fascinating story. -

@stamphick The law may say that "regardless of the ID law no one that shows up at any polling place can be denied the opportunity to cast a ballot." Everything that I see about needing an ID surely makes one think that it is otherwise. I may test that rule when I next go to vote.
Had an interesting foray in trying to do a Fixed Price listing. I tried to list a Coach purse-- kept getting an error message that said to consult an eBay rep. As a test I deliberately mis-spelled Coach as Caoch. The listing went up. Then I tried the revise the listing to the correct spelling I got the following:::::
"Thank you for choosing eBay.
In order to help maintain a safe trading environment, selling limits are occasionally placed on listings. For this item, eBay allows only 5, 7 or 10 day auctions. Please go back and revise your auction duration time.
We sincerely value you as a member of our trading Community."
