• @bethofvt --- I thought you no longer had a store. Have you reopened it?

  • @bethofvt -----Beth thanks for sharing with us. I was aware that you purchased many items from what I supposed was those north eastern outlet or warehouse stores. Thanks again, Helen

  • @bethofvt -----Beth---- You must do a lot of garage sales and looking to find those 300 items. And I think you also do quite a lot of substitute teaching. So you must be very busy and super efficient. I am curious as to the level of profit that you expect or hope for and at what price level you start your auctions?

  • @bethofvt Beth , You said that you had closed your ebay store because you felt it was more economical to do the free listings. There is a way to have a second account so that you have both a store and free listings. I think it may require a second account with PayPal. I'm pretty sure that seller that used to post often on the old BB is or at least has done that. And probably others.

  • Well our photos are no longer showing on ebay. The gallery pix (the one at the top of the page) still show, but the ones in the main body of our description are down. At first I thought it was because two the listings were very old and that something was amiss. Swifty then informed me that the subasement where his server is located in Albany is underwater and that is why we had no pixs. Sounds like a reason for me to call it a day off! LOL Not really I could still write descriptions and DH could upload and have lots ready to go when things get back to normal.

The photos of snow in Virginia and West Virginia are something, esp for this time of the year. From what I understand a cold front moved in from the west and met up with the rains turning the rain into snow. Then the low pressure system that moved in wrapped itself around the hurricane. Name has been changed from hurricane to cyclone!

@bethofvt ~ Congratulations on your roll-over! Found out that some of those power company trucks might have been for PA. The ones crossing the state line into NJ were obviously going elsewhere, but the ones I saw closer to home could have been headed to Phila or Allentown. Later I heard our governor announce that crews were being sent from other states to help in PA. Just locally we have a lot of downed lines - mostly the result of trees falling on them.

@treasuremom ~ I remember that! Lots of babies born 9 months later! Glad to hear about how great your nephew was treated. It is esp. a tribute to New Yorkers who always get such a bad rap. A crisis seems to bring out either the best or worst in people. Wow, never thought about the key cards or not being allowed into the hotel. I hope this time around hotels would learned from history and have printed out hardcopy so that they could verify at the door that you had a reservation there. At least that way they could be in the lobby and if a larger hotel the bar and restaurant and meeting rooms. As I mentioned earlier, Swifty knows a lot more people from his floor and in his building now since they all gathered in the lobby. As far as a party atmosphere, Swifty said that all of his friends were posting on facebook that they were going out to get hurricane supplies - at the liquor store!

@mysteryhorse & @justmim ~ Thanks, very much appreciated. Never know if one is talking to the wind or not. I know I am not good at commenting on each and every post but I do try to acknowledge people in a positive way when I have time.

mysteryhorse The waves on Lake Michigan were huge. I couldn't believe it when I saw people out surfing!

    @collectibles4utwo ~ A belated Happy Birthday!

@bookbase ~ I was thinking of your cottage too, but then I remembered what you said last year and seeing the pixs. Yeah, trees falling are the biggest concern. hahaha re: Seems funny to see my name mentioned so often and the good thing is that those posts carry nice thoughts and words! 😉 Wouldn't want it the opposite way!

@salmegal ~ So nice to hear from you! Thanks for the update. Wish you would stop in more often.

@stamphick ~ Wow, had not heard that one. Can't wait to tell DH and Swifty or are you pulling our collective legs? Have you heard from you DD? I forget the timetable. Is she on her great adventure?

@lookwhatbobfound ~ Sorry to hear about your nephew, wife and the baby! Hopefully they can get to a shelter.

@dianecox ~ I know how much you enjoy opera and thought you would be interested to know that my younger son in Vancouver went to see his first opera this past Sunday. I am looking forward to chatting with him next week to see what he thought. He lives 3 blocks from the Arts Center so thought he would give opera a try. He was going to see La Boheme. When I asked him if he knew what it was about or had he looked it up so that he knew, he replied, " 'Rent' is based on it, so yes I have an idea of what it is about."

Oh @dolores1953 that is so sweet of you to say!

  • DH got the patio furniture and grill put away and also cleared the garage where he had his woodworking equipment set up so that the car can go back into the garage. And thank goodness the township made my neighbor take down the tree that has been dropping huge limbs on our house and property for years. It was nerve-racking even during summer rains. I suspect that a lot of limbs and maybe trees will end up coming down in my neighborhood. Every bad storm brings some down but last fall was esp bad with many falling on houses. People just don't seem to understand that 70 year old oak trees and maple trees that haven't been pruned for years or have been come root bound are not the best thing to have close to your house - no matter how much you like the shade! Take the old ones down, esp the ones that you can clearly see are sick and plant another tree!!

@bethofvt Beth Cowboys! LOL I had forgotten that reference to linemen! They could have been headed anywhere - hard to say. I just know that when a list of power companies who were sending crews was read on a local radio station, our power company was not on the list. I was glad that they were no since the storm is to move inland and we could have to contend with our own down power line. In fact from the articles that I have read this storm could affect those in Ohio such as @ohliz Liz I did think that they were being sent out really early to be ready for a storm that is not expected to hit until Tuesday, but then realized you want the feet on the ground when it happens and also why wait for the rain and high winds to start and have to contend with that in driving.

@10bbg10 Helen Thanks, appreciate hearing that. Oh my goodness, did DH and I have a good laugh about the phone call to the power company. He really did LOL!. By the way, I saw your post earlier this morning about the earthquake that hit the coast of British Columbia, but it didn't register with me that was where the younger son is! It wasn't until I went to look up history of severe weather in Hawaii that I saw the headlines that it hit me that BC is where LLB is. Gee, worrying about the one on the East coast and what is to come and meanwhile the one on the west coast is getting more than a shake, rattle and roll. I did look at the maps and saw that Vancouver was not at the center of the red zone, but a bit south in the orange zone. Looking forward to hearing from him today during our weekly call.

Anyway, in regard to severe weather in Hawaii, it is on the uncommon side but does happen. I did recall hearing about some violent and devasting storms in past history, but didn't do too much reseach since I got sidetracked with the BC earthquake. I did come across this from last spring.

This size of the hailstones are unbelievable! One is the size of a handful!

Flooding, landslides and even a tornado recently pummeled the Hawaiian Islands.
    March 12, 2012

The National Weather Service in Honolulu confirmed that an waterspout moved onshore as an EF-0 tornado in Lanikai around 7:10 AM local time Friday morning. The twister then continued southwestward, impacting parts of the Enchanted Lakes Subdivision in Kailua.

I dunno but this is the type of weather that will have the "it's the end of the world" people out in full force. Of course, this type of weather has been going on for eons around the world, but people never heard about it like they do now.

  • @lovetohike ~ Irene Sorry to hear that he could not swing it to come back for a family function, but you are right. Curt should not even think about coming to the East Coast during hurricane season. He is now batting 2 for 2!

Been thinking about @oceanabooks Penny in Delaware. Storm surges on the East coast are to be at their highest because of the full moon when tides are at their highest. I know she is an old-hand with hurricane preparations and seastorms but nevertheless, 'tis a worry.

Also thinking about @sareader Clare. According to the governor, the storm could cause the worst flooding that Connecticut has seen in more than 70 years. Reminds me of last year when @bethofvt Beth told us about what it was like in Vermont. Similar could happen in CT.

  • Can you handle a little rant partly against myself and partly against a buyer? I had a bunch of school uniforms . One buyer bought 4 different outfits on 09-18-2012. I had sent her an email yesterday asking if there was any thing that I could do to facilitate a payment. As of today she had not paid for any of them. Today she wanted to pay for 2 of them -AND- needed them quickly. She would pay for the other 2 next week. I can't really be upset with her. At the time in my life when I would have had 4 little girls in a parochial school I probably would have difficulty coming up with $78., too.
Anyway I marked all of them as 'paid' , boxed them up and shipped them off to her by Priority Mail. I've never before shipped anything that had not been paid for.
And by-the-way @bethofvt Beth ,if she doesn't pay I may need that loan.
@sareader We are all tired of politics but it will get worse before that big day in November. Glad to see you post and glad that you liked Chicago.

  • Beth @bethofvt Since casinokat is not here to ask I will. Howzabout a loan?
    Helen in Indy

  • @bethofvt Beth , Of course you are right but I thought Irene was referring to the Legal FRE and the little greeting card size FRE.

  • @bethofvt Beth, Thanks for telling me about that lever. Had never noticed it. Think DD & DGD had not either but they had found a way to get around it. I did continue to have the problem for another image or 2 but discovered that I was trying to save the image to the wrong place.
Have to get out today to help DH buy groceries but will do more images later today.
    Thanks again, Helen

  • @bethofvt Beth, I am working from a SanDisk. I just Googled some stuff. Will try some of those ideas . Thanks , Helen

  • Good evening BBers,
Been a busy afternoon. The youngest DD came by to try to get my image program just as we wanted it. Got along very well and thought we had every thing tested and in order. But----- I'm back to a problem that I had before she came.
I think @bethofvt Beth that once upon a time gave me a solution for this. Anyway when I try to save my image I get the message " This disk cannot be written to because it is write protected. Please remove the write protection from the volume in drive F:."

Anybody know how to do that?
    Thanks, Helen

  • @9mart23 Irene I have not gotten back to etsy to finalize after getting the small deposits to my bank account. Just haven't had the time. Too busy doing eBay listings.

@judye @bethofvt I got an invitation for the 50,000 !!!!!!!! ??????? free listings with free Bins. I put up a couple so I could check the fees. Looks O.K.
Shot off a note to my North Carolina granddaughter to ask if she got one. She will be at work so I probably won't hear back from her until lunch time or late today.

  • Beth (@bethofvt), I've had problems with the sidebar not displaying a few times, but not lately, and I've never been able to figure out why that happens. But as Bill mentions, hitting refresh usually solves the problem. I suspect that it could be a problem with the browser's cache, so clearing your cache might be worth a try, but I'm guessing you already tried that.
As always, if anyone ever has any problems, please let me know.

  • @grano9 Patsy --- Congrats on getting released from your podiatrist care.

@bethofvt The zip lock bags is a terrific idea. I have not seen the 2 gallon size but I'll bet they are available right here on good old eBay. I'll go looking for them for my DGD.

For those with a violent dislike for PayPal this might be of interest.....I have been using ProPay for several years to process some of my book sales.

  • @bethofvt Beth , thanks for trying to help. I am still having issues with PayPal. Get either an all white screen or that dark blue/gray screen. I suspect this is a pilot issue rather than a site issue. I'll call them later this morning.

I've been giving lessons and tips on listing on eBay. Trying to decide if it is best to have her join me to take advantage of FVF from my TSR standing. Or do her own.

She has been battling fibro myalgia for several years. She is on a on a pretty tight budget and needs something to fill in some income when she is not able to to work a full time job.
She has a couple of dogs and I think that will be disadvantageous since she will be doing mostly clothing.

She lives within easy walking distance of a GW store where they have 99 cent Sunday clothing sales. I'm counseling her to be very selective quality, size and name brand wise. I have one DGD who has built herself a pretty good supplemental income selling clothing.

  • @bethofvt ---- Multiple reasons for doing the 3 day listing. One is to have the listing end on Sunday night. If it does not sell I can then then relist it for either a 7 or 10 days.
But your 7 day idea is a good one. There would still be time to relist for a different length of time .
I have not read the all the rules and possibilities for this promotion. But I don't understand your comment " The thing with fixed price listings is no matter what you set them for duration, you have no idea when they may end. You could list them all today and have them all end tonight. Or you could list them all for 7 days and have them end Sunday, Monday, etc." Will go back and reread some of the promotion rules.

@dainisjg Each person had signed the photograph and given their home town. If I put it on my bookselling sites I could list the last names of each person. Early on I sold some ephemera on eBay by putting names in the title. I believe that people actually search for their family names.

    Gotta go now.
    Thanks , Helen

  • good morning, y'all.
@bethofvt - thank you for reminding me to reacquaint myself with thor heyerdahl
@becky - i love michener so much that when i was expecting a well read friend told me "don't you dare name that baby clay basket."

  • @bethofvt ...as soon as the glass board is ready I'll be announcing it here. I believe there are quite a few glassies in the rafters who will probably fly off when they get their own board.

  • diane cox (furtima) Thanks! I'll double check.

@Bethofvt Oh I like With Fondest Memories as the link title so much better! Email me your list and I'll cross reference with mine. Please put that on as the title so I don't forget to use it!

  • @bethofvt Definitely no joy this past week. Stumble to the couch, ice and elevate. Stumble up the stairs to the bathroom. Back down again. I should study. Study what? I think it's here somewhere. Ice and elevate, grab book. Zonk. Snore. lol That's been my week. And of course assignments are due tonight and tomorrow as the week ends tomorrow night just before midnight. Today was mostly spent in weaning off of pain meds. (no headaches - phew!) Hopefully I can catch up tomorrow. I've done it before, so I'll remain optimistic.
